  1. Mike, you are more'n welcome - and I don't have to leave until some time tomorrow. We'd have time to fool around out in the shop.
  2. We (Sue and I) are still having that discussion. Actually, I wouldn't mind keeping it - a neat little outfit. We'll see - if it goes on Ebay, though, I'll split the difference with you. I just have to justify another stove to myself, seeing as I have at least 20 pocket stoves. Heck, Sue (who claims every model 502 that comes in the door) must have at least that many 502's. By the way, if you want your lanterns rebuilt just bring 'em over. I have all the parts, tools, etc. required to return them to factory new performance, and it takes about 30 minutes to do a thorough job. You'd be amazed how much of a difference cleaning the fuel-air pickup makes. XD is on his way here, he just called. I think he is about 2 hours out. Mr. Clean and co. are also coming over today sometime, and James as well. I'm about to break out the .22's along with the BP revolvers. You sure about watching the race? You missed some great burgers yesterday, by the way...
  3. True, true... Mars, there is a tourist on ebay going for more than a hundred with 5 days to go. Had to prick the paper cartridge. Going to have to find some potassium nitrate and treat the papers so that pricking will not be necessary. If I can do that, reloading will be almost as fast as a cartridge gun. Mr Clean and his grandfather (great guy, lots of good stories) also spent the day here, helping me clean the place up a bit. Hope to see 'em today for the cookout. Wish you'd show, Mars - park in the clearing!
  4. I don't know about the lead. Spent the day weed eating and lawn mowing. Looks a little better around here, anyway. My back is gonna give me a fit tomorrow, though. Oh well... I'd go with the weights, I don't know of another source, except maybe a battery recycling place??
  5. Congress took over a few railroads some time back. The results were not pretty. You guys realize that what with all the state and federal taxes, the Govt. is making 7X the oil companies profit on every gallon pumped? That finding and drilling new wells costs big money, and that the refineries we have are running flat out to keep up with demand? That the enviros have kept new refineries from being built for years? Also, with the switch to summertime formulas, the refineries have to go offline for a few days to make the changes? Like the state of Maryland, which hasn't built any new power plants since the '70's and now is buying 30 percent of its' power from other states - when demand goes up, either supply or price go up as well. Since the supply side is hammerlocked by impossible legal hurdles (Thank you, Sierra Club), guess which its' gonna be? Kind of like what Hillary and BHO have in mind for health care, unless you figure they have some magic formula for making more people become doctors and nurses. Well, actually, thats' easy - just lower the educational requirements. Hmmm.... just what I want, a Dr. that got his degree through a government funded, affirmative action diploma mill.
  6. Thanks for the tip! I spend a lot of time out of state too, I had checked the basspro in Norfolk. They have a fair amount of BP stuff but the prices were insane. Looks like a fairly regular get-together here every other month, hope to see you at one.
  7. Hi All, See you Sunday, XD. TDR, try Track of the Wolf for your balls... on the mold, if you get the same pistol XD did and you two are close enough to share, why not use his until you decide you need your own? You guys will also need a dipper, a cast iron pot, and a way to melt the lead - a campstove works fine. From the pictures, the color case hardening on XD's pistol is as nice or nicer than any of mine, it looks to be a good piece. Hard to go wrong at the price, but that is a closeout, if you're gonna jump, jump quick. Next best would be the $140 brass frame '51 from Cabelas... I looked at Mikes, and it is a steal at the price. The biggest difference between .451, .454, and .457 balls will be the amount of lead shaved away when you seat the ball; from none to a healthy ring. You want a ring of lead when you seat the ball in the cylinder. First, it greatly reduces the possibility of a chainfire (spark from the cylinder being fired finding its' way to the powder in another cylinder) and second, the more lead shaved away, the longer the bearing surface of the ball that will ride on the rifling - greater accuracy. Each revolver seems to be different, so I can only tell you to try them to see which one your pistol likes.
  8. Hi TDR, Yeah, I collect older Coleman stuff. Need a lantern?
  9. Angel, I'm sure he will... I just got home (11pm), just checking in before I call it a night.
  10. Oh, I went way, way over my limit. Dang it, Mike! Overtime and per-diem are covering my butt for now. I could've, and probably should've made wiser choices (#1 is paying off the house so I can quit living at sea). No regrets, though - been fun playing with these.
  11. The '62 police - best way to describe it is a 1/2 scale '51 with round barrel, melted lines, and a fluted cylinder. Lots of shooty goodness, as someone once said.
  12. Mars, I'd be quite interested in one of them, anyway. As for reenacting, that really isn't practical considering my current employment. If this election and the following 3 or 4 years go the wrong way, though, I could see us all doing a little reenacting. That was a joke. On the other hand, I do look pretty good in gray.
  13. Angel, the last time I checked there were over 100 antique shops within a 50 mile radius of my house. There are a good dozen (including 4 HUGE ones) within 10 minutes. As for the kids, I dunno. I might be able to find you a trustworthy babysitter for a day. There are also several hotels, ranging from <50/day to >150/day, depending on your inclinations. You can, of course, shoot your Bersa. If you want to try a rifle or shotgun, that is easily done, as well. Might even haul out the cannon again, if you are so inclined. OTOH, I have a very cute little BP pistol that would probably be just the ticket (Ask Mike, he liked it).
  14. I don't have any cougars. Just ask Fish and Game. Sue went out for firewood friday night, though, and a squirrel growled at her...
  15. I regret I can't offer the guest bedroom this weekend, but hope you guys can visit anyway.
  16. Fine. Any rules on shooting a 6 foot bobcat?
  17. Ha. You're killin' me here... hehehehe Actually thinking about a 1/2 scale 1841 6 pdr, 1 5/8" bore. Not sure of the charge, but think it would be in the neighborhood of 800 grains of Fg.
  18. Hey, guys, you seem to be the ones to ask... What about cougar?
  19. I have a partial box of .454, but I have a mold, and a few pounds of lead.
  20. I need a bigger cannon. Great vids, Cody, thank you for posting them!
  21. XD, your timing would be perfect. I intend to come home this weekend, and probably won't be home again until July sometime. Bring the wife, bring the kids, bring a tent. Hey, come to think of it I have a cabin tent (and a couple of very comfortable camping cots) I could loan you. Could also loan you a lantern (or two, or a dozen) and a campstove, if you need them.
  22. TDR, I'm just crushed... hehe
  23. The nipple has to be replaced, because I hadn't cleaned it since the last time I shot it. It rusted up. DumME. XD got a nice one, no doubt. Waiting for a range report, or just a big grin. So, think I need a bigger cannon?
  24. Thought I'd start a cracker barrel thread... Hey, Mike, you get the hang of the flask yet? It makes loading quicker, I think. Had the dickens of a time getting the wedge out of the .44 - maybe shooting that 50 cal ball put a little stress on it? I scratched the bluing, so I may be trying some rust bluing next time I am home for a while. XD's '51 sure has some pretty case hardening. Those grips, though - I'd be carving a set PDQ. XD, when'r you gonna shoot that thing? That brass-frame '51 from Cabela is a heck of a step up from the stuff that was selling in the '70s. Nice pistol, and as you said, they practically give 'em away. Tried to pull the nipple on my squirrel rifle - it has frozen solid in the 6 or 7 years since I last shot it. Soaked it with KROIL, maybe that'll help. Must say, that '62 police is a nice little piece. If the barrel was a couple inches shorter it'd be a dandy pocket gun. A gentle reminder to all who think of these as toys - they ain't. Just as dangerous now as they were in the war of Northern Aggression. Just something to keep in mind while we're playing with them...
  25. Jen, you need to create an account so we know who we're chatting with... confusion is a terrible thing... I can find you one, if you like.
