  1. Well, current policy is anything you can tote... Dotsun, what I meant was that I have on the order of 300 Coleman (and other make) gasoline/kerosene lanterns. If I had time to fire 'em up, dark wouldn't be a problem. Its' my (other) hobby.
  2. Welcome from Norfolk. (yeah, well, thats' where I am at the moment). Hope you can make it up to our get-together in Kingsport next weekend...
  3. Good to meet another carbine fan!
  4. The intent of the law seems plain enough to me. What we need to be able to do is indict or sue the prosecutor for abuse of his office.
  5. Dotsun, I'm leaving Norfolk about 4pm Friday. If I could get home sooner, trust me - dark wouldn't be a problem.
  6. Welcome to the forum. Hope you can make it to our "East TN chapter" shoot next weekend - just outside K'port!
  7. Hi Brian, Hope you can make it to the 'local' get together next weekend in Kingsport! Mark
  8. Sorry the glock guy got confused. (Now a brief pause as I observe another golden opportunity to keep my mouth shut.) Seriously, though, hope he can make it some other time. So far, Mike, you're the only one to express any interest in camping. You're still quite welcome to do so, of course. Hey, free firewood and all the squirrel you can eat . This is shaping up to be possibly the busiest shoot yet. Boomhower, you aren't required to shoot bp, you know - modern firearms are welcome. So if you're gonna miss the shoot, you gotta at least come up with an entertaining excuse - maybe you were walking your snake and it bit you? Had one of my patented screwball ideas for the prize for the cannon shoot - how does this sound to you guys? Top shooter wins a rebuilt/restored Coleman double mantle lantern, dating from the 50's or 60's. Alternate prize selection: NIB coleman hikers profane lantern - winners choice.
  9. Looks like better than half a dozen at this point. Should be fun. 5, at this point, will be bringing BP firearms, if my count is correct. Just between Mike and myself, we have a dozen of 'em. We're Smokin'!
  10. My little kit uses silver in solution. I'd have to check on the cost, likely less than $20. Caveat - this method produces a very thin plate. For about twice that you can have it professionally plated - in fact there is a thread in the BP forum of THR that gives an address. I'd bet, though, there is a plating shop in Knoxville that'll do the job. Bluing - there are a lot of different methods. Each has its' pros and cons. What Uberti is currently calling charcoal bluing isn't - it is actually a type of nitre blue. Leaves a beautiful finish that scratches easily and wears easily. Carbonia, or gas-furnace bluing, gives a shiny blue that doesn't, to me, have much depth. Charcoal blue, with the exception of one or two specialty shops, hasn't been done since the turn of the last century. slow-rust blue is the authentic blue for these guns.
  11. XD, pm me your address, we'll sort it out when you get it in hand.
  12. I read a review today on THR of that '51 from the possibles shop. The buyer was very happy with it. Darn it, I want a '49, but I don't have a '51, either. Wheres' that eco-stimulus bribe money? Maybe I ought to get the '51 before they are sold out? XD, I can pick up the iossol, no problem. Mailing might be an issue, I am working 6 days a week here in the yards - that is an improvement, it's 7 when we're sailing. Will do best I can, though, if you need it. Gunslinger, you're gettin' itchy? "Dang it, Mike" ought to be my new sig line. I'm really looking forward to that '62 police. I know a 'smith down in Florida that does very nice old-method bluing, I have this dumb impulse to send him the barrel/cylinder for a charcoal blue, and the screws for a nitre-blue. I had him do something for me once in nitre-blue, it looks like blue chrome! Hmmm, I have a small plating kit, and the original brass trigger guards and backstraps were silver plated...... Dang it, Mike!
  13. XD, iossol is something I've just recently seen myself. It seems to be very mildly abrasive. I also use butches bore shine - foulest smelling stuff I've come across in a while, but you'd be amazed what comes out of a 'clean' barrel with it. Shop here in Norfolk carries iossol if you can't find it locally and think it worth the trouble. Let me know... http://www.gripmaker.com/ look under the 'stars and garters' category
  14. Mike, now this is really disgusting. I found a source for fake ivory grips. One even has a saloon girl on it...
  15. Iossol on a patch/jag, worked through the barrel a few doz. times. Got this from a thread on THR. A long-time BP shooter (who wrote a book on it, apparently) advised this method to 'hone' and smooth the barrel. I tried it, and felt a noticeable change. And that bore shines!!

    G19 vs Sig P226

    Nope. Not gonna do it.
  17. Mike, the one I just bought is the 1862 police; a .36 on an 1849 frame. Have you seen one of those yet? Just wish I could have found one with a 5 inch barrel (this'n is 6 1/2). Naturally, right after I ordered it from the possibles shop, I found the 5 1/2 bbl version at the last link I posted... 20 bucks cheaper. Oh well... If all goes well, we'll play with it at the shoot. I should have time to break in the barrel beforehand.
  18. Thanks, I feel better already
  19. Uhh, Tungsten - I have a Plymouth...
  20. Even more shocking is the depreciation on a nice series 70 colt, NM colt, or those worn out pieces of junk from, say, 1917. They have to practically give them away. While not a S&W expert, I do own a couple. Both qualify as antiques, both are very well made, both will no doubt outlast me by a good long stretch. I'm reasonably certain that neither will decrease in value. I think one of them would shoot quite handily at 50 yards, being a target masterpiece model from the late '50's or early '60's. I will happily pay two thirds of the original MSRP on any pre-1970 S&W wheelgun in 90% or better condition that you might have in the case, though, if it'll make you feel better about the depreciation thing. Heck, I'm such a schmuck I'll pay the full original retail if they are still in the box, used or not. What can I say, I never had much financial sense. Again, the question was what are possible downsides to the glock. If the original post had asked for recommendations on utilitarian, functional disposapistols*, the glock would be my second or third pick, easy. Okay, third or fourth. * - if it falls into the swamp, your wallet might ache, but your heart won't.
  21. Okay, who in Hades are you, and what've you done with the Rabbi?
  22. I just have an M3 (repro). Well, and a WWII issued holster that I think may have started as an M3 or M7, but was at some point heavily customised to hold an extra magazine. It isn't in very good condition, though. Don't know what it was soaked in, but it is soft as kid gloves, but the shoulder strap is pretty much shot. I see that Skwashdem may 'come out of the closet' too... way to go! Mike, worst comes to worst I have a couple pounds of 3F goex, and a pound of pyrodex. That ought to get us through a few hours.
  23. I guess its' you and me against the world. I've done a little shooting at 100 yds with a 1911, but tell folks that and they just look at you funny, usually. Here you go, Deerslayer: http://www.thegunzone.com/glock/g19_cracked.html
  24. I've heard that AO increased their quality drastically after they were bought out. Don't know personally, though. Gotta agree about the norinco - finish is ugly as homemade sin, but that is a tough son of a gun. My original point was that the glock isn't gonna be the first choice of heirloom firearm when it comes time to hand it on to the next generation. Nor will it hold its' value like a quality 1911. The well-known tendency of some glock owners to defend their chosen pistol, though, is hilarious. You ever see the legendary glock fanboy post? It's hilarious... heck, I'll post it below. "However, in just a few minutes a Glock fanboy will come by and post a link to a test where a Glock was put in a blender filled with Drano, sulfuric acid, Coca-Cola, pirahna, and 2 pounds of industrial diamonds. A CAT D8bulldozer was then dropped on it from 1000 feet. The owner picked up the Glock, chambered a 155mm HE round, hit a post-it note at 917 miles, and then proceeded to run 726,761 rounds of Wolf ammo coated with Gorilla Glue with no failures."
  25. Six for sure, they used to say. You can count on it when you need to.
