  1. I understand an empty chamber when you aren't carrying your weapon, but what will you do if you're ever in a situation where you have to use your weak hand to push your son to safety while you draw? That extra second or two to rack the slide could mean the difference between life and death.
  2. Gun "nazis"? Really? That's how you view those of us who know that trouble doesn't make an appointment? Then you turn around and say that you respect those of us who feel put upon? I'm really confused... which one is it?
  3. I bought two Sigmas last year for $299 shipped. Sold one of them a few months ago for $290. I know Glock is a great weapon, but as far as reliability and accuracy, I haven't seen any evidence that it has any advantage over the Smith. Once you get used to the trigger, the Sigma is deadly accurate. Anyway, good luck.
  4. I agree, the trigger will loosen up the more you fire it, but I personally like having a hard pull on a DAO weapon. Dry fire the snot out of it. I have the 9VE and it probably took about 200 rounds and a lot of dry firing to get the trigger where I wanted it. The key seems to be in not squeezing it, but deliberately pulling it straight back. When I figured that out, I started hitting center mass at 25 yards. Don't listen to the Sigma bashers, as there are many. The VE is a great weapon and will serve you well.
  5. If I ever find myself in the horrible position of drawing my weapon in self-defense, my sole objective is to stop the threat, nothing else. My intent is not to kill. Modern service caliber ammunition, in the proper weights, is capable of doing that. The first handgun I bought was a .380, and I sold it about 3 months ago because I became convinced that it is inadequate as a SD round. It can kill, but it is not a reliable man-stopper. Your attacker can still do you grievous bodily injury before he bleeds out. No caliber is 100% effective, but service calibers have been proven to be more effective at stopping the threat than non-service calibers.
  6. Thanks for your replies. I called the LVPD yesterday afternoon and was told by a lady in the Concealed Carry Unit that NV honors TN carry permits, and they are an open carry state. She indicated carrying would be no problem as long as I had my permit and didn't carry anywhere I wasn't supposed to. We're going to rent a car a couple of days and head out of town to do some sightseeing, and I'd like to have my revolver with me. I also called Southwest today to make sure I understood the procedure for transporting a weapon. They were very helpful as well.
  7. Has anyone here been to Las Vegas recently, taken a weapon with you, and carried it while you were there? I'm going to be there next week.
  8. Nope, won't work. An OWB holster needs to have two points of attachment to be secure.
  9. LOVE THE CHOP HOUSE!!! Even though I don't live in Chattanooga, I've eaten there many times with my mom and dad and other family. Great food, great service, and great news to hear that they are welcoming law-abiding gun owners.
  10. Name of Park: All County Parks City or County: Williamson Results of vote: Carry to be prohibited Entity taking vote: County commissioners; vote unanimous on 7/13/09
  11. What kind of penetration and expansion are you getting from those?
  12. Unfortunately, when someone goes emo, there's nothing you can do, except to do what you did. When emotions take over, there's no more logic or reason for that person. Any attempts to help them see facts are useless. I won't waste my time with them until they calm down.
  13. Swamprat, I was born and raised in Ducktown. I know the area well.
  14. Hello! I've been carrying for about a year and a half, had my carry permit for about 12 years. I've been active in the Boy Scouts of America as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman for the past several years, and my son is an Eagle Scout and enjoys shooting too. I have accumulated the following over the years: SS Kimber Ultra Carry (EDC) Browning Hi Power 9mm Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact 9 S&W SW9VE S&W 442 (carry as backup) Ruger SP 101 Marlin 336W Hi Point 995 Carbine Marlin 25mn .22WMR NEF Pardner Protector Phoenix Arms HP22 (just for fun) And, I just purchased a S&W M&P 9mm compact, but haven't been out to break it in yet. Looking forward to picking up some information as I'm sure there's lots of it here.
