Who is promoting TFA? How many here are members in TFA? Does the TFA organize gatherings/events for the member base? I don't recall seeing them at any gun shows soliciting members. I am just curious as to how organized the TFA is and how effective it is in lobbying for gun rights. Several here, including me, was unaware of TFA.

This is great. Maybe find a speaker to give a presentation of the positives of gun ownership and gun carry. You guys must know of at least one or two State Reps or State Senators that are gun friendly and carry friendly. Maybe organize one event at a gun friendly restaurant in west then another in middle and one in east parts of TN. Setup people to speak for each event. Maybe schedule a trip to a range after the meeting/luncheon. Invite your State Reps & State Senators to these events - and even set them up as speakers. Calling them names is not going to benefit anyone. Be professional and courteous at all times with your respective politician. As much as one might not want to deal with the politics or the people involved in them, it is a fact of life. These are the people that will make or repeal the laws. We have to deal with them. Taking a chain type restaurant and essentially doing a sit in will only hurt that local business and our reputation. A fair amount of these are franchises - they have to agree what the parent company dictates or lose their franchise and their living.

We in GA done that - GCO members gathered while the law makers were in session. We had several helpful hands. One being state rep Tim Bearden that introduced a bill to repeal the public gathering clause - which would have allowed carry into restaurants that serve alcohol. The NRA introduced their parking lot bill and stomped all over Bearden's bill. They went back and forth and finally parts of both bills ended up making it through the house & senate. Another big player was GeorgiaCarry.Org or www.georgiacarry.org - it is a member supported with dues/donations. GCO has been very effective in suing various counties in GA for violations against gun control/carry issues/issuing permits & illegal laws, etc.. Also here is Rep Bearden's site. http://www.timbearden.com/index.asp Here is www.georgiapacking.org which contains most of the happenings of the GA bills/laws & things/events sponsored by GCO. If you have a gun friendly state rep/or senator - you guys in TN might want to take him/her to lunch and see if you can get the process rolling in some direction. A TennesseeCarry.Org might be in order also. I am sure those at GeorgiaCarry.Org would be willing to offer some advice. Of course the biggest is each state rep's and state senator's constituents. Constantly write them, email them, phone them. Set up lunch (pick up the tab) to get your voice heard. Start a campaign for the above to get others involved/informed. Resist the urge to respond with rudeness or threats to those who are anti gun. We here in GA have made some progress, but now all the antis are urging the Gov to veto. So we keep doing the email, phone, letters, etc. It is hard to get Sonny boy to sit down at lunch - so are options are limited somewhat. Just thought I would toss some ideas out there.

Crossbreed vs CTAC vs MTAC What do u think?
FlyboyLDB replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have all three. This is my opinion - some have different results. Do not fool with the CTAC. It was one of the most uncomfortable holsters I ever wore. That leaves the MTAC or the Crossbreed Supertuck. They both have their pros & cons. For the MTAC the biggest advantage is that you can purchase additional shells for other guns. Saves about 50% of the holster cost. The MTAC looks a little better - but who cares because it is concealed. The Crossbreed has the most comfort and is less expensive than the MTAC. The Crossbreed is also just a little thinner, which makes it a little more concealable. The Crossbreed will give you a 2 week trial period. The Crossbreed has a lifetime warranty. Both have great customer service. I think both will do the job - you just have to decide what you want out of your holster. Good luck. -
I agree that the badges that appear as LEO type badges are a very bad idea. And any badge or identification that can be had by anyone is also a bad idea. But what happens when a BG starts something where there is say more than one permit holder and off duty LEOs? What my fear is that I am the first to react, then the remaining permit holders or off duty LEOs start reacting on me. I don't know what the solution is, but this is a very real concern with more and more people obtaining permits.

The PG clause (public gathering) is still in place - which is something we in GA failed to get removed. So although we can carry where alcohol is served if Gov P. signs it into law, the law can still interpret one being in violation of the PG clause if more than a few people are present. We have had some legal opinions on that matter. But it is only opinions. So there is always in the back of one's mind "will I be charged with violating the PG law?". In TN you can carry at church - GA we cannot. In GA we have georgiacarry.org that is funded by it's members. GCO has attorneys that will take on cities, counties and governments that violate gun laws. It was a huge help in getting this bill through the house. TN needs a similar setup. The NRA had a hand in it also.

Why don't those of you who visit GA from time to time drop our Gov. Sonny Perdue a POLITE message encouraging him to sign HB89 into law. Something short and to the point. Pointing out you are disappointed in TN not passing a similar bill. That you will now be taking your dining dollars to GA as much as possible if he signs HB89 into law. We have one more hurdle. Thanks for all your help. http://gov.georgia.gov/00/gov/contact_us/0,2657,78006749_94820188,00.html

It passed both the senate & house around 9pm tonight. It allows for carry in restaurants that serve alcohol, mass transit like marta, WMA, state parks. The public gathering clause was not included - so that will still exist which means still no church carry or at any church functions. Waiting on our gov. Sonny Perdue for his signature June 1st. He used to be a democrat, so it is a toss on which way he'll go. I was hoping TN would have done the same as my office is in Chattanooga. But I guess I will just dine in GA if Sonny signs it into law.

chattanooga gun stores with good holster selection?
FlyboyLDB replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
There is no doubt that Sportman's Warehouse is slow to re stock. But they do have one of the best selections around in holsters and guns. I love to support my local gun shops, but most only stock a dozen or so holsters and most of them are of the nylon variety. You can find an OK holster in the Bianchi, Desantis, Don Hume, Glaco, Blackhawk lines that most Sportman's Warehouses carry. I was able to find my Blackhawk holsters at a local shop - which I always check first. -

Yes, you should be ok with the pinkie +0. Has worked fine for me on two mags. -
Failure to Feed in Glock 27 - please help
FlyboyLDB replied to PackinMama's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
If you have the original plates that go on the mags I would re-install them. Then give it a try a see what happens. I have a 27 with a pinkie extension - no +1 or +2. I suspect this is where your issue is. I have fed my 27 everything from very cheap stuff to the very good stuff. I have never had a jam. On my 23 I had installed the +2 extension and it did jam or ftf a few times - I had several mags, so I just set this one aside. -
chattanooga gun stores with good holster selection?
FlyboyLDB replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Another vote for the Sportsman's warehouse. When doing work for GT dist I was told they only let LEO or security type personal in except for special sales. They may have changed policy - but I thought they mainly served the LEO community. -
I own everything from a .380 to .45 . I carry my 9mm and .40 cal the most. There is something in my mentality that says I need more than 8 shots - which most .45 are. Load the 40 up with some good quality defense ammo and don't look back. The difference between th 40 & 45 is not that much. There was a site that had ballastic reviews. They shot various calibers through this transparent gel and measured the differences. There was not that much difference in the penetration or the diameter or damage wound between the 40 & 45. Maybe try and google - it has been a few months since I viewed this.

I own several. The Glock is always a great choice. I also have a Kel-Tec PF9 that is great for carry. But another gun I have been looking at is Ruger's new SR9. It is thin, holds 17 +1 rounds, has a few other features that make it appear to be a good gun. G&A had a write up in their magazine. They put 12000 rounds through it with no failures. It has the light\laser rail. This would make a good home defense gun as well as a carry gun too. I have seen the SR9 for around $400 - but all depends on area and how well they are selling. $600 gives you a lot of choices. You are almost in the range of a good used EMP - which I have been looking for - mainly for the looks of this gun.

I have the MTAC and also a Crossbreed Supertuck - which the Comp-Tac finally copied in the Spartan. The MTAC allows for interchanging shells for different guns. It has kydex or other material in between the two pieces of leather to allow for different shells. It makes the MTAC too thick & stiff in my opinion. I prefer the Crossbreed - or in this case, maybe the Spartan

They be on the list, but unless it is posted per TN code - then it is open. They could request you to leave - but that would be the extent of it. I have not seen any business properly posted in the way it would need to be to actually be a legal notification. All this is to be on a sign the meets certain minimum size requirements. PURSUANT TO T.C.A. § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. A VIOLATION OF THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN $500.

Obligatory concealed carry holster thread
FlyboyLDB replied to TGO David's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
For IWB Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe & Comp-Tac MTAC - although I prefer the Crossbreed for the most part over the MTAC - just a little more comfortable. For OWB it is a Blackhawk CQC w/Serpa. We gun owners are very biased regarding our holsters - almost like bringing up politics. There are a bunch of great holsters - and a few really bad ones out there. Good thread to bring back every now & then - get to view bunches of opinions and sometimes stumble on a new maker. -
Another good step - don't know how far it will make it.

For those of you looking for a range gun - avoid the Kel-Tec. I have the PF9 and love it for what it is designed for. Now I have put a few boxes through it at the range. But I assure you it will not give you the same pleasure as a Glock at the range. It is fairly accurate - I can shoot around 3-4 inch groups at say 15-20 yards - not too bad. The Kel-Tec is excellent for concealed carry. Out of all the 9mm in this price range, the PF9 was the lightest and thinnest in the this class of guns. It has proven to be very reliable. If you purchase used, just beware that they had some issues with the first release of the PF9 - but they all come with a lifetime warranty. It has become my primary carry gun just because it conceals so well.

I would go with a Kel-Tec PF9. Lighter & thinner than the P11 & you will have a little more powerful load over the 380. jmo

Not true. As a TN employer I can just say I am letting you go. I need no reason - none. Whether you are justified in obtaining unemployment is another issue.
