  1. I've got a 1892 carbine in 25-20 that was my uncles from way back. He bought it new around 1913. It's a great shooter but I don't shoot it much. I have some ammo about the same vintage as those on the auction site and it seems like the brass has gotten hard over time and many of the necks split when shot so they are no good for reloading.

There was a box of new ammo on the shelf at the lgs a while back. Marked at $65. This was way before the ammo pandemic. I looked at it several times but could never make myself buy it. I later decided that I should, and when back to find someone else had snapped it up.

  2. Hard to beat the harbor freight ones when they run them on sale. Had a pair that lasted real good until I had to pull up a house fully of old carpet. That carpet backing really took a toll and they were worn out. I cut the finger tips out and now I look like the cool guys on TV, LOL.

I have a tough time finding the XXL size. Sometimes the harbor freight ones fit, sometimes not. They do sell some at Home depot that come in xxl and they actually last pretty good, about $15.

  3. Slabs are pretty popular these days if your lot will accommodate, and it's generally cheaper to build. Most spec builder neighborhoods are all on slabs. Most of the time these days supply lines are pex and often sleeved so a repair is not horrible. Drain lines don't usually cause a problem since there is no pressure. I've looked at a lot of houses and for a retirement home I might just go with a slab. I built 18 years ago and did crawl space and it has worked out well. Makes it easy to see all the mechanicals, you can add new wiring etc pretty easily, unless it's a belly crawl space. I would definitely go with slab if it's going to be a belly crawl height. Also with a slab there is no concern with potential mold and not too much to worry about with termites if you have the grade correctly set.

  4. Looks Iike the Algimated bank has successfully implemented a new merchant t code singling out firearms dealers. Discover card has announced they will begin tracking purchases and reportedly sending those to a government agency.

I have had a Discover card since the late 80s, but I'm ready to cancel my account. Are there any cards that are not going to be implementing this reporting scheme?

I've not powder coated any before. Have always used the old fashioned swager with stick lube. Are you sizing the slugs before powder coating or just coating them as cast? I have only cast pistol bullets. Have done it for years although none recently.

  6. Has anybody seen and self defense 38 special ammo on the shelf lately? If you can find any it's either 158 RNL or 135 fmj. I shoot mostly reloads but would like to have some factory SD ammo.

  7. I've carried a variety on the tractor over the years. When bushogging it's common to see field mice and a lot of times rats run away and have thought it would be fun to shoot at them. Considered a Judge, but decided I'd need to be pretty fast and with a big tractor to contend with I'd probably not be much good at hitting them anyway. I also often have coyotes come follow behind the tractor, and they can get pretty close. They don't seem to notice me driving it. I've sort of settled on a Keltec PMR30 and have a surplus holster that fits it pretty good mounted right under the steering wheel. Shot one yote a couple of years ago with it while bushogging.

  8. I have one of the ATN models. It's a couple of years old and I know they have a newer version now. I've taken several yotes with it and it's good out to about 125-150 yards. I have mine mounted to a 20" AR .223 and it's dropped all of them with one shot. I like that it can be used in the daytime as well. The big con for mine is that it's heavy. I think the newer ones are lighter. It uses 4AA batteries and I purchased the Kental rechargeables and they work nice. You just need to keep them charged. I don't keep the batteries connected when not in use and that seems to work better. I keep the battery cover loose. I also purchased a separate IR light off amazon that is mounted to the gun and has a pressure switch. I think it was about $30 and really lights up the area.

  9. got an email yesterday showing $299 when I checked the website they were still in stock but decided I had enough glock style guns already. Got another email today showing $350 but didn't check the status. The mag fitment is pretty wonky.

  10. My son is wanting a smoker. I know nothing about them. He wants an electric one and one that can be left unattended. I think the pellet style is what he's wanting. And of course he would like all the bells and whistles of a phone connection etc. I'm sure there are some members here with experience using these. Any suggestions as to what would work well?
