  1. I'm only lacking a complete upper to finish my first AR. However, I need help. I have several questions that I'm hoping you guys can help me with.

First let me say that this will not be a bench gun or anything like that and will likely never see anything past 200 yards or so. Optics aren't important right now and I'm not really doing this for distance shooting.

    Now, on to my questions.

    1. Is a chrome lined barrel worth it?

    2. What twist should I go with? 1:7 or 1:9 seem to be the common ones.

    3. How hard is it to change the handgaurds? If its pretty difficult, I will need to go ahead order one with a quad rail because I hate the look of a flat top with a handguard on it.

I think thats pretty much my only questions right now. Oh yeah, Ill be going the 16 inch barrel route for now and probably buying a second upper (SBR) sometime next year.

    Thanks for the advice guys.

  2. Thats right. Myself and "benfield8585" was honored with the opportunity to fire a HI-POINT Model C 9mm, and have it function flawlessly.

Yeah I couldn't believe it either.

Here is the story. My boss approached me last week and asked if he brought me his pistol, would I take it out, shoot it, and clean it for him. I said I would and Friday he brought me his HI-POINT pistol. I told him about how they are jokes and he said he has never had a problem with it. Well "benfield8585" and myself shot it after squirrel hunting Sunday morning, without any issues. We put maybe 20 to 30 rounds through it and it never jammed once. This was my second experience with a HI-POINT pistol. The first wasn't a good one.

I'm in Memphis as well and take mine to the range everytime I go. Just look for me. You'll see a 10/22 and a C9 with me everytime and they both work just fine. I honestly can't complain about my C9 at all.

  3. So Christmas is approaching and shortly after that is tax day. I've been thinking that these two "special" times of year would be great chance to pick up a couple of new toys. My intention is to pick up a couple of suppressors. I'd like to get one for my AR and one for my .22's.

So I'd like to hear your opinions on different models. For my .22's, I'd like to keep the cost down. I don't want or need to spend 650 bucks plus stamp on a suppressor that will be on guns worth less than half that.

    Thanks for the opinions guys.

  4. I hate Glocks. They just don't fit me well. Never bought one though.

I also rented a Kahr and the trigger pin fell out while shooting. I don't care that it was a rode hard put up wet rental, that's bad enough that I will never consider owning one.

  5. Everything I have heard about this gun has been fantastic. I am still waiting on mine.

Guns & Leather has sold several already from my understanding.

I had ordered one but I decided to wait since they will be releasing a Magpul edition and a threaded barrel version in the coming months.

The only bad things that I have seen are that the mags are proprietary (big whoop) and if you try to use a standard AR grip, the grip will fit but there is a small gap left between the receiver and the grip. Other than that, everyone that I have talked to has absolutely raved about this gun.

  6. Yeah but have you seen one available or seen one period? That's kinda my point. It was one of the original calibers to be released but they have yet to see the light of day to my knowledge.

IMO the 6.8 is perfect for this kind of setup.

No but I havent been looking either. Plus, in Memphis, it takes about a year for something new to hit our shelves.

  7. the 5.56 ran anywhere from 1600-2100 depending in the sights ect. Curious they would release a x39 and still not have the 6.8 available. Is the x39 just in the works or out for sale?

Go to the site. The 6.8 is in the list of calibers.

  8. I wish there was a store in Memphis that had one, I check them all regularly. I would order one but the bleeding FFL Transfer fees are in the area of stupid in this town. I need to hurry up and move so I can get on with getting my C&R.

Tell me about it. I drove to Guns and Leather and bought mine. The closest place that MIGHT have one is Gander Mountain in Jackson.

If you do buy one, and need to get all the cosmoline off, here is what I did for the metal parts.

I first wiped all the excess off with some old towels and ran a little solvent all over everything. Then I completely disassembled the gun and set it outside hanging from a pallet. By the end of the day, there was a puddle of cosmoline on the ground and all of my metal parts were dry as could be. It worked fantastically. If you have a large oven, you can use that too. Heat will liquify the cosmo and it was just drip off. I dont know what I'm going to do about my stock yet though.

  9. Cameron has never been in love - at least, nobody's ever been in love with him. If things don't change for him, he's gonna marry the first girl he lays, and she's gonna treat him like ****, because she will have given him what he has built up in his mind as the end-all, be-all of human existence. She won't respect him, 'cause you can't respect somebody who kisses your ass. It just doesn't work.

True wisdom, my friend. True wisdom!

  10. So can anyone help me identify a bayonet?

I have these two bayonets that I inherited but I don't know anything about them. I was able to use the almighty internets to identify the short one (on the right) as a "1892 Krag-Jorgensen knife bayonet" that is stamped 1900. Sadly the scabbard on this bayonet is dented in a few places.

The second bayonet (on the left), I have not been able to identify. It looks very similar to a Swiss 1889 but has that extra loop between the handle and the blade. Anyone have a clue what it is?

I will try to get some better pictures. There really aren't any marks on it other than a serial number at the end of the handle and a symbol on the ricasso. The symbol looks like three cirles intersecting each other. I will try to take a decent pic of it.

    Thanks

  11. I have always kept mine fully loaded so that I have plenty ready to go for the Zombie Apocolypse. I have never had a problem. However, I shoot often enough and run through all of my magazines when I do, that I dont really have them constantly compressed for more than a couple of weeks. I have had some cheap magazines give me problems in the past while shooting but I just took them apart and stretched the spring a little and problems vanished.

In my experience on different forums, it seems people are about 50/50 on this topic.

  12. All I have is a storage rack. Since I took this picture, I have added a 91/30 to my collection and an AR lower. I also have a M&P15-22 on order. So basically, I am now out of room and have NO idea what I am going to do next. I think I might buy one of those cheapish gun cabinets until I can afford a Browning tactical safe.

Oh yeah, since I took the picture, I have added a shelf next to the rack that houses ammo, cleaning supplies and my handguns.

  13. Looks good man. I've got to figure out what to do for an upper now. I figure mine will be complete in October and then we need to go shoot.

Edit: my LPK came in today. I was able to put everything together except the bolt catch and I still need to finish hammering in the trigger guard roll pin. Incredibly easy.
