  1. We call them Redeye Bass, but their real name is Roanoke Bass (Ambloplites Cavifrons). They are only found on three river basins in the world, Roanoke River, Tar River and the Neuse River. They can only be found on the upper reaches of these rivers because they need swift current and gravel beds to spawn. The world record is 2 lbs 10oz. The one in the picture is a young bull, they turn dark during spawning season.
  2. The Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto were finally defeated by Nazis forces. Over 250,000 men, women and children were packed onto cattle cars and sent to Treblinka death camp where they were gassed to death. The Russian Army under Joe Stalin paused outside of Warsaw to allow the Germans to defeat the Jewish resistance fighters and remove the Jews to Treblinka. He didn't want armed Jews or Nazis in Polland. This is just one small part of the violence, the horror and the slaughter of World War two. Young people today do not have a clue, or they wouldn't be using the term "Nazi" to describe political opponents.

  3. I finally figured out who Hakeem looks like.
  4. I just checked out that Taurus. It looks pretty cool. Take the plunge! Taurus is known for their innovation. They have come a long way in the last 20 years, and I will not talk trash about them. You should also look at a Ruger. LPC Max, Security 380, Security 9mm, or the new RMX.
  5. The Durham County GOP had a raffle. They would give away one gun a day through May. $30 a ticket. They texted me that I had won a Winchester Defender pump action 12ga. I was so excited. I picked up the shotgun and bought 100 rounds of 00 buck shot. Unfortunately, I just had my shoulder replaced and cannot shoot it until September. I have a few shotguns but not a 12ga pump. This Defender is made in Turkey. I have a Remington Wingmaster 16ga that I have had since the 1960s. It is smooth as butter and will rack a shell with one hand. When I raise it to my shoulder I am automatically looking down the barrel. It is a beautiful shotgun that has put a lot of meat on the table. This Defender......not so much. I am 6'2" and I have to reach for the forearm to rack the slide. There is nothing smooth about this shotgun. I could buy a new stock for it but that would cost as much as the gun is worth. I think it needs some breaking in, so in September I'm going to run that buck shot through it. It is camouflaged, so I got that going for me.
  6. I have not made the transition yet Jimmy. This post may just insight me to change that. Thanks. You have some bad ass pistols!
  7. I don't know where I heard that but I am going to get my iron skillet out and cook some bacon! Thanks Mr. Whisper!
  8. When I bead blasted the iron skillet, it turned red overnight. Covered with rust. By bead blasting the skillet I increased the surface area which caused the rust to form. I had to polish the surface and then season it with lard. I use it when camping because my wife wanted a glass top stove. You can't use cast iron on a glass top stove.
  9. I found an old cast iron skillet in a dilapidated old car. I took it to the shop and bead blasted it. NEVER BEAD BLAST A CAST IRON SKILLET! That's all I have to say.
  10. I am reading about a tomato called Cherokee Purple. The grow from mid-summer to frost. I like the name.
  11. My wife and I went to the local Harris Teeter grocery store on senior day (10% discount) last Thursday and I purchased one of each different type of tomato. Beef Steak, Heritage and all. Guess what? You country boys and girls already know. None of them had any flavor! They looked great but tasted like water. Somebody recommend a tomato, I can grow, that has flavor, that tastes like a tomato. I started making biscuits from scratch after Pillsbury changed their formula. Now I'm going to start growing my own 'maters.
  12. I took my PPQ-45 and Glock 19 to the range. It was a weekday and I had the range to myself. After running my Glock through the paces, I picked up the PPQ45. The trigger on the PPQ is so light, I double tapped and sent a round down range that I hadn't intended. Next time I will shoot the PPQ first.
  13. Sig P-238 Equinox: This pistol has become my favorite summer carry. 7+1 plus 6 rounds. It is smooooth and accurate. I bought the grips from Eagle Grips. I like them, some say it looks like a pistol a pimp would carry.
  14. I have a PPQ-45 and love it. I keep it next to my bed with a green laser and a light. 12+1 of 45 caliber goodness.
  15. You can see a glamps of fur on it's chest. Bobcat for sure.
  16. Baby Face Nelson was shot 17 times with 45acp and 00 buckshot. He still managed to kill two G-men, get in a car and make it to a safe house, where he bled out. Sometimes the bullets just don't hit the right places.
  17. I watch a movie where Robert Duval was an assassin in South America. He used a North American Arms mini-revolver. He walked up behind his target on a crowded staircase, put the revolver up against his back and shot him. Then drifted off into the crowd unnoticed. The derringer is a "surprise!" weapon, a GTFO me gun.
  18. I own a couple of 1911s in 45acp but I don't carry them because of the thumb safety. Since I shoot revolvers and striker fired pistols, I am afraid I would forget to thumb off the safety in a 1911 style weapon. I do have a revolver that uses 45acp that I carry often. I think a man who carries a 1911 in 45acp is well armed. It's just no me.
  19. Great post! I have been seriously thinking of getting a 10mm pistol. I have shoot some at the range and thought they were very manageable. The picture below was from Sunday before last but that's not the 10mm I want.
  20. We haven't lost power for more than a few minutes, in 20 years or so and that was from an ice storm. For me, I just don't see spending thousands of dollars to save $300 worth of food in the refrigerator. If I lived in rural area or had a lot of money, I might be singing a different tune.
  21. I have never seen anything like this.
