If your using a bipod I don't think the sling matters, but when shooting from other positions like standing or kneeling it is extremely helpful

Has anyone tried using one of these for Deer hunting, I am just getting back into hunting after a 20 year layoff and I would appreciate any advice on this rifle.

Have you thought about getting a 5 or 6 cell Maglite its a mini bat and very legal plus your less likely to be a target if your walking with that in your hand
