  1. ". . . this decision came down from the top within TVA and was not a local decision or request. The Gallatin plant management and personnel have always been supportive of GGC and still are." What a travesty !!! I would suspect somewhat political in nature given the posture of the current outgoing Presidential Administration but don't let me be caught spreading conspiracy theories. I don't know if it's cool to post the whole letter that was sent to us members but it looks like we'll be looking for another site post haste. " We are currently looking for property and need everyone's help. Let us know if there is a piece of property you think might be suitable for a range. The sooner we find a location the sooner we can start the zoning process for approval for use as a gun range. The sooner all of that occurs, the sooner that general membership activities including competitions and shooting can resume on a new range.
  2. Did they have 20 rounders ?
  3. Did they have 20 rounders ?
  4. Isn't placing a rifle snugly in a Lead (type) Sled supposed to remove the human error factor when sighting in? I fire. I reset EXACTLY to the center of the target using the elevation and windage adjustment of the rifle stand and fire again. Now, I should get almost perfect groupings whether on or off the bulls eye - right? At least the best the rifle/ammo combo can provide - right? For some reason I do not. And this is across several platforms, glass and irons. Nothing is shifting between when I re aim the rifle+sled and when I pull the trigger. What the heck could I be doing wrong. So frustrating.
  5. Anytime TripleDig, You have my number. Call anytime if you have other questions.
  6. Greetings,   Yup. Hershmeister just sent me a link to this thread and I was just reading it.  He's a longtime shooting buddy of mine and we did his roof last summer in CertainTeed, Charcoal Black, 30-yr Architectural shingles + plus ridge-vent.   I work for Reliable Construction & Restoration just outside of Murfreesboro.  I'm the Nashville guy.  Probably 70% of what we do ends up being insurance negotiated work.  There are three or four Reliables in the State.  I think one is in Antioch but the others are far away.  I was thinking of jumping in and trying to clarify some of the matters brought up from a "roofers" point of view but might just start a firestorm of opinion.  There are plenty of sources for "correct" roofing techniques and materials if someone wants to get educated and spend an evening on Google.   Maybe I'll paste this response into the thread.   Sound like you already have a roofer that helped insurance get it paid for and he’s offering you designer shingles at a slight upcharge.  Go for it.  Owens Corning, GAF and CertainTeed are the main players in this market but there are others. We switched from GAF (yes, available at Home Depot) to CertainTeed a couple years ago.  We feel it’s a slightly heavier product plus being CertainTeed certified installers we can transmit a 50-yr warranty on materials for a slight fee.  If your roofer can’t offer you that warranty he is not a CertainTeed “Wizard” shingler.  Doesn’t mean he’s not a good roofer just not CertainTeed certified.   25yr Three Tab flat and 30yr Architectural (also known as Dimensional) designer shingles are 90% of what we do, what customers want and what insurance companies pay for.    The colors and styles available are dictated by what these companies ship to middle, TN and with some variations they are pretty much the same across the three.  Outside these colors and styles stocked in local distribution any real roofer can get other styles and colors but there will be a hefty upcharge due to special shipping of a single order.  Think of the weight.   You should need to put in the local zip code. To see color options for Architectural go to:  http://www.certainteed.com/products/roofing/residential/designer/308747    and look under Residential / Designer / Landmark.   The standard 3-tab flat shingles can be found here  http://www.certainteed.com/products/roofing/residential/traditional . Look under Traditional / XT25       So called Designer shingles are heavier, tougher and look better.  They will serve you over a longer period of time and are less likely to become windblown save for a near miss tornado or sustained straight line winds.  Plus they will add curb appeal if/when you sell your house.  Depending on the pitch of roof plus length of ridge you ought to go with ridge-vent, especially if it’s a low pitch ranch with a lot of roof area.  If you have a very steep roof with tiny ridges (ala a newer McMansion) you might be best served for convection by a COMMERCIAL quite exhaust fan or box vents lower down from the ridge.  Don’t get a cheap one of the shelf from Home Depot.  It will be noisy or dead within 3-5 years.  We pull em off all the time.  Heat is one of the enemies of shingles lasting a long time.  Do you have any kind of “intake” or soffit vents below?   In short, we’re partial to CertainTeed but GAF is good stuff too.
  7.   Thank you for contacting me at AmmoMan.com. Unfortunately, we don't offer local pick up from our warehouse for insurance reasons. I apologize for the inconvenience. You can place an order online or over the phone and we can ship it right to your door. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Have a great day.    Thank you,   Stan AmmoMan.com
  8. NashvilleStage, Are you in Pro Audio?  I used to be a sound guy and work in Pro Audio today.
  9. Where's their warehouse.  Wonder if they do will-call?
  10. Any Milsurp Gunsmith's in Middle, TN?  I may have asked this before with little luck of replies for the Nashville area.  Sam Hoster in Gallatin is a good guy and he tweaked some problems I had with an FAL but I think he's more about killer trigger jobs for hunters and building his premium 1911s.  Yes, I know about In-Range past Knoxville and Volunteer Ordnance Works outside of Chatanooga.   The handful of people that have excellent reputations referred to on the major Milsurp forums are always far far away and/or are backed up for 9+ months.  I can't believe we live in such a "free" state with so little support for the milsurp aficionados.  I can do a few small things on my own or wi friends but it would be nice if there were some real milsurp builder/Smiths in middle, TN.   My problems are these:   1) I have a couple sloppily built AK pattern rifles and I am interested in finding a brick and mortar outfit that can straighten them out.  The PSL is crooked at the rear site block and the Draco (SBR’d) is also crooked at the front sight.  With Texas Weapons Systems dog leg rail/cover the Kel Tec rear peep sight I installed is pushed all the way to the left to zero for windage - ridiculous!   I link to this site because without me trying to take pictures I can tell ya this fella has the exact same problem as me and demonstrates it accurately with HIS pictures . . .  http://www.akfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=167718&highlight=psl.  Barrels will probably have to be pulled and repinned and probably reblued in the end. 2) I am also interested in installing FCGs on each of these rifles that can provide the best two-stage feel. I purchased K-VAR trigger groups based on positive reviews I read on some forums but also understand they can benefit from some light filling and polishing. These may or may not be best recommendations. I have a Red Star Arms on my M76 and am not nuts about it (too soft a second stage and I cannot adjust that thing myself). I am open to suggestions.
  11. Greetings folks. I know little about SKS's but being the recent owner of an SVT40 I figured I better get her little sister in the collection. I do seek to put a ComBloc optic on this so I was glad to see it already had a rail on it. Thought it was strange there’s no bayo on it. Possibly an early Sporter import? And what's with the combination flash hider/brake? What can you folks tell me about this rifle. 12. This guy makes a two-stage Mosin trigger wi roller bearing in small batches for $50.  Read good reviews about it.  I just ordered one.  Well see.   http://www.smith-sights.com/
  13. Would a Bushmaster M4 Carbine be okay?  I know - irons only.   No, I am not a competitive shooter but the one time I did attend a fellow volunteered to sit behind me and tell me what to do.  I learned more in that one day than any single day of shooting.  It was fantastic.  I fear I would need a coach again as it's been a while.    Frankly I would love to shoot some of my vintage firearms but I don't know if I could ever hold em steady enough seated or off hand.  How often do you do a "vintage" side match like this?
  14. Okay. Last one to throw atcha. My recently purchased Rock River LAR8 (Elite Operator) would not actually qualify would it? I know it's not technically an AR10 but technically speaking no AR10 was ever an "as issued" weapon (even though it should have been  )
  15. Yes, I'd like to.  Been struggling to try and get to an IDPA match for months as well.  A little think in my life called "family" keeps getting in the way.  Well, at least I have SOME priorities straight.   BTW what defines "Vintage"?  Only US stuff like Garands, O3A3's, Eddystones?  Or any "old" vintage military battle rifles like FN49, SVT40, FAL, Mausers, etc?
  16. Just checked the calendar   and there is less info there   "HiPwr NRA approved 50 shot 100 yds $10 Paul 838-4570 Mark 754-0972" When     Sat Jun 15, 2013
  17. Mark,  This may be a stupid question but are you a GGC member?  I'll be outta town this Saturday but I would love to get an email blast about matches reminding me/us a week in advance.  Might get moire attendance.   GS
  18. Uuuuuuh . . . . Heh heh . . . Thettle down butt munch . . . . heh heh . . . . He thed high crapacity ass-ault socks
  19. How do you know you are banned by Google?  What does that look like?
  20. Not at our store. And highest prices. That Academy across the street gets far more of my general sporting goods business as well as Bass Pro. None are competetively priced for ammo and arms. I'll only pick up odds and ends and cleaning stuff once in a while otherwise Google is my friend. BUT . . . Off topic . . . I'd like to standardize use of different search engine. Google is 100% in for compliance with nation-state govts. The real 300lb gorilla in the room. Google knows and can influence TOO much in world society.
  21.  The Ed Show's Ed repeatedly reports that armed civilians have never stopped a mass shooting.  Anyone seen this?   http://www.kgw.com/news/Clackamas-man-armed-confronts-mall-shooter-183593571.html   nnnOOOOOoooooo !!!   The ProgLibs are in FULL THROTTLE. I have specifically watching Pierce Morgan, CNN and MSNBC to be informed.  I'm gonna puke if I hear any more "question speak".  You know they way your kids talk in 21st century Valley Girl tone.  And how they start all their sentenced with "So . . . "   But I'm so relieved:  I notice how they are framing the purpose of the 2nd amendment is to protect the rights of hunters and collectors.  Oh they are lamenting in the most understandable way that there must be a way to come to some 21st century solution while protecting the precious rights to hunt Bambi.
