Was is a two-stage feel?
-
BUT can they be gotten is the question
-
Hmmmm. Might get one of each. Prob won't be able to get flash hiders much longer. I might agree but don't have enough experience. Chinese Polytechs? Huh. What feels diff about them? Good? Bad? Certainly not something you can get after market?

Also, I understand the internal receiver block is the way to go? SBRing a Draco.
-
Well I've been cruising Google looking for insight. I think more steer away from the steel push-button style due to loosening but a few swear the aluminum push-stock version wears more quickly. Trying to see if there is an obvious consensus before I commit. What say you?

Planning a Draco SBR. Don’t really wanna go very tacti-cool with rails, handles and synth furniture n’all although I’ve seen some great set ups. My goal is a clean, compact, mid range, high power rifle that’s discrete and fast access with irons and quick target reacquisition on second and following shots. I’d like to put my concept out there fore suggestions and feedback. 1) ACE side folder (I’m pretty much settled on this stock) 2) Rear trunion mount peep site from www.tech-sights.com . I like that these are mounted to the receiver (not dust cover) and have elevation/windage while having hooded protection due to the high rounded sides. 3) I’d like a muzzle device that does duty as a flash suppressor and a reasonable compensating brake. I know it might be loud for my neighbors but I keep ending up at the Battle Comp(?) to do all three. Not frickin cheap though. 4) I’d like a clean grippy grip. Hogue? 5) Don’t know if there’s any reason to be swapping out the wood furniture for the moment. 6) I bought a bunch of 20 round milsurp mags. I have found that if I Dremel-off the follower stops at the top/inside I can substitute Yugo BHO followers. 20 rounders keep the whole set up cleaner, more compact and easier to handle. Plus you can shoot prone more easily. 7) I put a Red Star Arms trigger group in my M76 for sort of a two-stage trigger feel. Eh! It’s nothing to write home about. I’d love to hear other ideas for a two-stage feel in an AK. Man, if I could find something that felt like a Garand or M1A I’d be a happy camper. I am not the type to do any grinding or modifications myself. Would have it done or should be drop in. Anybody have any experience with any or all of these features? What am I missing? Feedback? Suggestions?
Just google Hickok45 for both videos.
Djay, Well I Googled and searched through YouTube and he seems to have a million videos. I don't suppose you can put your hands on the links you're talking about?
Midway, unless you wanna count that mini 14
Okay .... I meant "wannabe" tactical rifle.
Got me into this?
That's right. Who sold you your first tactical rifle?

Check out this video comparison of muzzle devices I found in my late night web surfing. This is fantastic info and education for me. Battle Comp did very well. Looks like Knights Armament's Tripple Tap was the best but its $400+ and only available in .556 http://videobam.com/ChaxN

11,000 posts since I got you into this? Whoa man. You are hard core. Just had surgery on my left thumb yesterday. Gonna be a while before I'm shooting again. That's why I'm spending a little time thinking about these two projects. LAR-8 and Draco SBR. I know the Draco is no precision machine but that's not goal. I'll put an Ace side folder on it and a peep sight on the rear trunion. The goal is a small, mid range, discrete, fast access, high power rifle, with irons-only capable of quick target reacquisition on second and following shots. Could be fun for IDPA / three gun stuff. I found 20 round AK mags for it and I wanna retro them to take the Yugo BHO followers.
Not sure I agree with you there Smiffy. They don't need them for recoil reduction, but they can sure help hold the gun still for followup shots. I have two carbines that are virtually identical, except one has an A2 flash hider, and one has BattleComp. Real significant difference on followup shots. I also have a brake on my .458. It simply reduces bruising
Hey Mike. It's Kmad. I have a Rock River LAR-8 on order. Thinking of that Battle Comp 2 for .308. Worried it'll blast people next to me. What has your experience been. The video looks impressive. Also thought about it for the Draco SBR I'm building. Really pricey stuff.

For some this will be a question showing my complete ignorance on this topic. Also, not sure where exactly to post this. I have never completely understood the function of different muzzle devices. I'm not talking about silencers or noise suppressors. Rather things called flash hiders, compensators and brakes, etc. What are the definitions of each and what else is out there? I've come across websites selling things guaranteed to keep your muzzle down but may make it louder and may or may not affect flash. Some are open ended twisting "vortex" style. Some are sharp and jagged as though the muzzle could be a weapon. Some of the boutique aftermarket stuff can be quite pricey. I have a couple ARs with the "birdcage", One FAL with a long 5 slotted hider, one in a shorter cylindrical form having a few rows of angled holes, an M1A and M76 with the long slotted style, an AK47 with a fat cylinder and one large hole side to side. I'll be putting together a Draco SBR and will need to choose a muzzle device. Can anyone direct me to a decent explanation of thevariousmuzzle devicesand their effectiveness at what they claim to do?
Mark is rude, abrasive, and arrogant.
Is that why he labels himself "Arrogant Bastard" under his Logo/Avatar? Actually I just posted a bunch of super close up detailed pic of the Locking Shoulder situation and he seemed to make some spot-on observations.
That is a beautiful rifle GS, shame about the troubles, keep us posted on the progress & I for one will be looking forward to seeing a range report when you get all of the kinks worked out.
I will say this. The first time we had it out and "rough'd" in the ACOG at 50yds I was able to hit clays at 200yds ever shot or so. No pics on paper though. My rifles are better than I am. I'm itching to get this baby running.
Dan from Volunteer Ordnance Works (VOW) is as good as they get. He's from down towards Chattanooga, but may be up in Mid-TN this weekend at the Hendersonville show. Give him a call and see if he can help.
Preciate the input but he is why I am looking for another gunsmith. See this thread if you're interested why . . . . I asked this question a while back but can't find the thread. I'm in the Nashville area looking for a recommended FAL builder. Preferably a brick & Mortar business I can drive to.

Warranty period does not commence from date of manufacture but becomes effective upon sale by autherised dealer.

Sorta like the horse running the wrong way on a Ford Mustang

I got this on trade about a year ago from a buddy that worked at a gun shop out in Lebanon. Thought I might shoot some military matches but never did and I need to make room and money for another project. I never scoped it but the couple times I took it to the range it hit steel plates with irons at 300yds easily. I’m sure it shoots better than I do. Pics shown: I put the original hand guard back on it. - Light, clean breaking trigger. Don’t know if it’s special but it looks different than my two carbines - Spikes Tactical lower - 20†DPMS 1:9 heavy barrel - Removable carry handle - Has a few very light scuffs and I put maybe four mags through it. Don’t know how better to identify it but I can post more pics if needed. Looking for a value check on a fair asking price. Thanks all.

This Oh and don't forget you become eligible for dealer pricing at some places.

One thin not considered in these suggestions is the cost of ammo. With the Swiss is you will be paying better than .50c/rd unless you reload. May be a good choice after you've built up a collection but excellent Czech, Yugo and German Mausers are still available for under $300. I have an Imperial era Czech made for Persia 98/29. I also prefer a pistol grip in an old Mauser not a straight stock. You see em on Gunboards or you could just get one from Samco https://www.samcoglo...ifles-2010.html . But good 8mm is getting expensive too. You got a great suggestion up the thread. The Finnish M39 Mosin is a spectacular rifle. I have one on the way to me. I paid $300. I think the Russians, while accurate, feel like crap and the trigger pull is like that of a Red Ryder BB gun. Believe me. I have both. These folks have been selling am for years http://www.gunsnammo.com/ but they are probably 20% overpriced compared to the plentiful $300-350 specimens you see on the forum marketplaces. Plus Finnish Mosin's have such cool blotchy stocks. Try using this to search the forums for rifles http://www.riverofgu...l?s=Finnish+M39 7.64x54r is respectably accurate milsurp ammo in a good bolt gun and is still available cheap from several outlets. http://www.copesdist...sty-p-4654.html Copes puts 440rd (slightly rusted) tins on sale every month or so. I got some and the rounds were still just as clean and fresh as the day that Soviet Citizen packed em up so nicely for me. So what that if its corrosive. Run a watery patch down the bore within a day or two of shooting, dry, and clean as usual. Pfff .16c/rd ??? No brainer. Get two tins for $130 bucks and your good for a year or so. I'd like an Enfield one day as well but I don't reload yet and THAT ammo is a fortune at.75c/rd. Look for ammo prices here http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php

My wife and I have carry permits and I have been shooting recreationally on/off all my life. On a handful of occasions my kids, in earlier years (now 11 & 13), have fired a crappy little .25 (Sat Night Spec) semi auto that jams every 5th round, a .22 rifle as well as my dad’s M1 Carbine. They’re not really “into†it. As far as my wife goes she just wants to test fire her .38 hammerless S&W revolver to make sure it works then plans to stick it under the car seat ( I know, I know). I like to shoot old battle rifles and shoot em often. I have various handguns that I will fire and cycle but I am not very good on target so I get bored and blow it off. The three times I’ve done IDPA (great fun) I’m always at or close to last place. I would probably be a candidate for a more advanced pistol training class but I wonder if there are any ranges or shooting schools/programs that offer some kind of family/household training. I can show my kids how to shoot but they get bored quickly and I want a professional hands-on experience for them (and for me). What should an 11 year old do if a stranger kicks in the door? Where should we keep them? Pick it up and do what? I would want them to run drills like open a desk, drawer pick it up, check the safety and fire down range. That sort of stuff. I'm in the Nashville area. Any ideas or services?
