  1. hmmm BACK to the original thread... I just bought my fiance' an engagement ring that set me back approximately 2 ar15's and a medium range Kimber..so with the money thats left...I have been authorized to buy ONE (1) firearm for myself (or her...and yes, she batted her eyes and mentioned something about "sharing" if it was something she liked).... SO!!! I'm looking at either a Glock23 NIB or a 1995 P226. It has Hogue grip panels (non-finger grove) and new Meps (less than 6 months old). Trigger job was done less than 2 years ago by a certified Sig armorer. they both want pretty fair prices .... so!! whats' your opinions on the sig? I have never fired either one before...though I will take the glock on faith, since you guys swear by them. all my experience has been with 1911s' and bhps...
  2. hahahahah hey hey hey!!! I thought this thread was supposed to be about giving the poor fella an idea about what pistol to carry! now you guys are talking sex!! GET a ROOM!
  3. I've already got myself, Julez and LILBucket into this! heheh I don't have a chance in heck of winning..not enough time on the range this past year...but I WILL participate!! remember, you have to get an NRA certified range officer to sign off on your target when you're done shooting! personally, I think this is awesome!
  4. Its my belief that the framers of the constitution realized that laws as a whole, were a finite attempt by people, to define an infinite set of circumstances. Knowing this, they designed the original Constitution to be a loose set of guidelines that allow us to live together in relative peace and freedom, PROVIDING we protect the freedoms outlined in that document. Tungsten, man..they got it right when they made the Constitution...it took them 13 years to write it. the insights that great men have put to paper regarding freedom are a comfort to those of us (and I'm sure this includes a heck of a lot of you guys) who have sacrificed and or lost something in the pursuit of these freedoms and who have seen peoples who have been deprived of them as well. thanks for the great posts..you provide me with the most thought provoking material!
  5. :DI'm a member of the NRA. I'm not a member of any other groups...yet. RN Medic, dude!! are you kidding? just because you DONT belong to the nra, but you belong to other pro gun groups..doesn't mean that you're ostracized. we all fight to support the rkba in the manner that best suits our consciences. I agree with randyC though...where does an 800lb gorilla sit? and voodoo? I too got one of those cards..and guess what? under the 2007 ban, any shotgun with a telescoping stock is BANNED!
  6. sounds like something to do this weekend! anyone in the tricities want to go with me to a range?
  7. abe, its ok! whats the use of a discourse if you can't make mistakes, be forgiven/corrected..if we all knew everything we SO wouldn't learn anything! I know exactly what you mean with the derringers though..both my fiance and my sis in law carry them..I cant shoot them for squat...they can though!
  8. thats why this is the best gun forum in tn. IMHO...
  9. Dang...so they arrest the gun wielder as well? I read a blog called "the lawdog files" about a texas LEO..and when a detective rules it self defense, they take the gun, give you a hand receipt and when the grand jury looks the case over, they return the firearm.
  10. For YOU, this method might not work well enough to employ...for me either..but for someone else ..hey! viola! it works well enough for them to be comfortable with it. with all this hubub, I'm going to try it out again..and approach it with a different attitude!
  11. LiLbucket, email me a picture of the gun, a description of what you'd like on it, etc..all the details... I'll email my brother (hes' at sea right now and won't be home till around June) and ask him a. if he'll do it and b. how much he would charge you to do it. I'll also look around and find some of his artwork if I can..if I cant I'll take a pic of some of his carvings and woodwork.
  12. welcome! great to see more folks here!
  13. 2 shotguns and the thunder 5 do shotguns count?
  14. :Dwhat was that old saw "if it looks stupid, but it works, it ain't stupid":D
  15. any luck on the engraver?? I may know someone, but his availability isn't that great (my brother). he's a great artist and an excellent engraver...that being said, I think I'm going to get him to engrave a pistol for me when he gets home. If anyone else has found an engraver..post it up!!!
  16. welcome to the board! they're a great bunch of guys from what I've seen!
  17. *sigh* I stuck my keyboard in my mouf and pulled the trigger again...dangit. I thought this was for the bairn when he gets old enough. that IS a good idea. I hope your brother sticks with the sport and teaches the young one when S/HE gets old enough to shoot.
  18. I like the way you guys think. When I was 12, my brother bought me my first firearm. it was a single shot, breechloading .22 made by ithica arms...it looked like a 30-30, and shot .22 shorts, longs and long rifles. I learned some of my best marksmanship with that rifle. I also remember how it felt to get it. we went out into the back 40 and started immediately to shoot. when he comes of age to shoot, he'll look forward to something that he can shoot immediately (kids are all about instant gratification it seems). I would say buy the lower and do that for AFTER he gets a good starter rifle. or build it WITH him on the birthday before he comes of age and present it on the appropriate date. Just my idea
  19. I know this is a gun forum, but keep in mind that the framers of the constitution were all about prayer! that being said..I will do that for you and your father, Glock.
  20. I saw the web page for coal creek...Have you been there Drewi? it looks like a great place and if I ever get any time, I definitely want to go down for a day and check it out! perhaps gather a few of my tri city bretheren and go see what they've got to offer.
  21. I do..plus, the company I work for is sending me some brand NEW cold weather gear that they bought for their employees...they're based out of wanamingo, MN. (sorry about the off topic thing). David, if I am traveling up there, but live here, and I get a day off can I participate in a postal match with rifles? due to current (stupid) gun laws, I can travel with my pistols..so I'll have to buy a long gun up there and participate with that.
  22. Reef, whats the limit on those Golf balls this year? I hear they've been breeding like crazy and need to be regulated! Seriously, if you can hit golfballs at 25 yards, then you should participate in the postal match..and you're a better shot with a pistol than I am.
  23. auuuugh!!! why now??? I've got to fly to Bismark N. Dakota on monday!!! heheheheh can I shoot this weekend and hold it in reserve? I'd probably lose as well..but hey! it WOULD be fun!
  24. I don't know about that...I saw a guy put 3 m203 rounds through a little window once...at about 250 yards..while under fire...I'm willing to bet you that he wouldn't have been able to do it in training...and I know, he was in my squad! some guys are just like that I guess....hmhmhmh after that incident, he was of course, my very own personal Jesus Christ.
  25. LOL niiice tagline DK. and great post! see? now THATS what I call a "gentle rebuke"...I need to take lessons..
