I think a perdon's heart rate has a lot to do with it. The average person's heart beats 2.2 billion times in their life. If a person is overweight or in poor physical condition or have some other stressor in their life then their heart beats faster. And, I believe, that is the key factor in dying of "old age".

My resting heart rate, according to my FitBit, is 57 bpm but I can also meditate it down to below 45. I try to do calming/breathing exercises as often as possible and have been doing them for several years now. I also try to be as sedentary as possible when possible. Hopefully it helps but who knows.

I have also read that another factor in how long you will live is how much you eat. There is a lot of data that suggests that if you eat as little as possible you will live longer versus eating more. And I am not talking about over eating but eating more than a starvation diet.

Found a Life Expectancy calculator based on heart rate bpm:  http://www.csgnetwork.com/avglifeexpfromhr.html

My bpm averages in the mid 50's.  Based on this calculator it says I "should" make it into my late 80's but who really knows except the man above.

Yeah, I have a medium grip module out with Alex at http://sgarmory.com/ for his Stage-1 frame package (stippling, undercut) and should have it back this next week as long as everything stays on schedule.  I am hoping that the extra texture to the grip helps me lock it down tighter as it's the only handgun I own that I cannot really maintain an immovable grasp upon.

I would like to eventually find a size Large grip module and see if that makes any difference as well.

I like the looks of that package with the undercut.  Looks like they have good pricing on their CNC milling compared to some I have seen.  Looking to add a Trijicon RMR06 to my Glock G20.  May go ahead and have them do that Stage 1 Frame Package if I send them my G20 frame for milling.   What did they quote you on turn around time?

  3. I may pick up a compact model at some point.  I really just need to see how well the frame I have coming back mitigates muzzle flip.  I don't know if maybe I really need a Large frame instead of Medium, but I know that I have to focus harder on not letting the muzzle flip as much with my P320 than I do with my VP9, M&P or my Glock 19.

The good thing about the P320 (which I am sure you are aware) is the ability to change out the grip modules to help with that. I have a P320 Compact in .40S&W and have not noticed much muzzle flip like I would normally expect with a .40 and the P320rx I have in 9mm is basically non-existant and a pleasure to shoot. Even with 124gr 9mm that I shoot as compared to 115gr.

I have an X Bolt hunter in .243. Love that gun

Very nice!  Hunted with it for the first time this past season.  2 deer taken with it.  Very happy with mine also to say the least.

Thanks. My buddy says, in the years you have turkeys, you learn "how to kill" turkeys. Those years you don't have turkeys, you learn "how to hunt" turkeys. This year, I'm fortunate to have lots of opportunities to land full of turkeys. My fear is the lack of jakes I am seeing and how that will impact next year.

Your buddy is exactly right.  My property seems to be covered up with hens and jakes but very few mature gobblers.  Last Saturday I was out and saw 6 hens and 1 gobbler cruising around in the down pour while I was staying dry in a deer blind.  Am also training some future turkey hunters this season.   Been bringing my 3 and 5 year old sons with me so I haven't been as mobile as I usually am during turkey season.  Even though I haven't taken a gobbler yet it's been fun being out there with my kids.  They've spotted turkeys when I haven't seen them so it's been like having a few extra set of eyes with me.

  6. Congrats @whiskey & @10-Ring!!  The large flocks that I have been seeing were on another property down the street from family land that I hunt on this morning.  Waved to them when I saw them as I was heading home.  My property was covered up with turkey last weekend during youth hunt and I had my son with me but he still has one more year before he can hunt and needs some more trigger time/practice otherwise he would have had his pickings.

The longbeards are good shells. I tried them last year, but decided to stick with the HeviShot.

Too bad about the scope. Hopefully it will be back soon. I run Burris fastfires on both my shotguns. I dropped and busted one a couple years back, all my fault, and Burris still replaced it for free. They won a permanent customer over that.

Yeah if the TruGlo cracks again I'm going to look into Burris.  TruGlo customer service is replacing it but the only disappointing part is having to pay for shipping to send it and return it ($20 total in shipping).   Still on the fence with the Longbeards vs Hevi-Shot.  What kind of results have you had as far as distance?  Shots above were at 30yds.

  8. Was out patterning my shotgun on Monday afternoon when I was packing it up and leaving I saw two jakes cruising across one of the big fields that I hunt on some family property.  Promising sign.  The glass on the TruGlo Red Dot scope I am using also cracked during the process.   Sent it back in to TruGlo for replacement and will hopefully have the replacement back before opening day.  The Hevi-Shot HEVI-13 Magnum Blend 3.5" shells had quite the boom and may have cracked it so I may stick with the Winchester Long Beard XR #6's that did a nice job patterning with my Indian Creek choke.  Recoil wasn't nearly as bad as the HEVI-13's.

Target on the left is with the 3.5" Winchester Long Beard XR #6.  Target on the right is with the 3.5" Hevi-Shot HEVI-13 Magnum Blend (#5, #6 #7).   Shot on the right was a little too low.  I think I was seeing two green dots with the busted scope at that point.

I am in my late 30's so I will eventually break even and get ahead on it (just barely). Still a much better deal than the Tennessee lifetime hunting license. Try $1,976.00 for that one. Purchased each of my sons a lifetime hunting license for $200 before they turned 3. I pay $166 a year just for a Sportmans Hunting License.

  10. Did you happen to upgrade to macOS Sierra around the same time?  No specific experience with the searching for terms inside of word documents but have experienced some interesting stuff since the upgrade.  A lot of my locally trusted certs were purged after the upgrade.

  11. Take a ladder with you and set the camera up high enough so that if the trespasser does see it he can't get to it. We used to do that on the campgrounds at a deer hunting lease I used to be on. I have a Primos trail camera that won't die. They seem to be pretty good. Cabela's store brand has some decent trail cameras with good warranties also. Previous poster mentioned Wildgame Innovations but I have never seen positive reviews on their trail cameras and have stayed away from them.

  12. I agree with everyone about the pricing at GM. It is far too high when compared to many other retailers. However, I'm surprised at how many say that Cabela's is cheaper. To me, tey make Gander seem reasonable. My problem with Academy is that they don't have near the selection. I do like that Gander has a lot of firearms in the store and have done what many others do. I check them out at Gander and if need be, I order them online or buy from a local shop for the better price. Sometimees I wait until they hit the used market and get an even better deal with some extras to boot.

You have to be very strategic with Cabela's. I don't think their firearm prices are very good but otherwise I buy a majority of my hunting gear and ammo from their online store. The savings is with not having to pay sales tax for online orders and when you typically spend $99 or more its always free shipping. I have the Cabelas Club credit card and receive 10% off my order plus free shipping at least once a month with special offers they send me for being a club memeber. In addition they have a pretty generous points system so between using points for purchases, no sales tax on my orders and generally having free shipping it beats out the other big box stores and other online retailers. Their store brand products are also reasonably priced and high quality unlike Bass Pro. Some of the Cabela's brand products also have lifetime warranties.

Yeah. I'm a huge cabelas fan. I hope they stay separate because I like having both. I like browsing Gander also, but they're just too expensive

Agreed.  Ironically I received a 20% off store wide coupon for Gander Mountain in the mail today.  I guess that would only bring it in line with other big box retail pricing with 20% off.
