  1. You said you took the class? You dont think it was too easy? I'm not talking about restrictions, those are all those yes and no checkboxes on the application, the blasted fees are too high as well. I'm talking about education, shooting skills and responsibility.
  2. Cant argue with that. Not sure it will ever happen but I'd vote for it...lol And in it's current state, the HCP class is "silly"...thats what I've been getting at.
  3. lol, well glad we could get that worked out...happy shooting
  4. Sorry if you dont see the connection, maybe my punctuation was improper. How about this: "Instead of just the $50 fee, it would seem that some continuing education and range time would also be required." Or maybe I can stick with the original wording and change the period to a semicolon: "I'm all for allowing people to carry, but I would expect it to be harder to earn this priviledge and definately would expect more than $50 every 4 years to renew; seems continuing education and shooting should be involved." Please review and let me know if this is appropriate for you.
  5. I would ask that you read the very next sentence...
  6. No one is talking about the fee. And we are all thankful for our veterans.
  7. Great catch overtaker, didn't realize I had done that. I guess I really don't know how I feel about that (be it a privilege or a right to carry in public), but I do know that (pending no issues) I will have an HCP in about 8 weeks and I will do everything I have to do to keep that from being taken away!
  8. Yeah you heard him right. That video was outdated and it was almost like they tried to "scare" you into not getting it. It was a good time to catch up on email and such...lol
  9. Agreed. I have already said more on it than i want to. Me? lol EDIT: I see your edit...you are right I probably would be...lol
  10. I took it in Sevierville. The range was very nice and so was the staff. I figured one or more would take offense but whatever, check your feelings because I am pro gun. Excuse me for wanting people to prove they are and are still responsible gun owners. As long as you are responsible enough to know when you are no longer capable of carrying safely (because we all will be at some point) then I guess just paying the $50 every 4 years is good enough. It's the stubburn ones that worry me. And I cant pay your $50 for you cuz I'm not one that Obama is giving your money to.
  11. , I'm not going to get into that debate, it is long exhausted and I support the right to carry by responsible people. If you take the class maybe you will understand what I mean. Oh, and my original post should have said "harder to get" not "hard to get". Or maybe "more challenging" better suits you?
  12. I guess I expected more for people who are wanting to carry a gun in public. It seemed more like you said, a general gun education class more suitable for hunter's ed or something. I'm all for allowing people to carry, but I would expect it to be harder to earn this priviledge and definately would expect more than $50 every 4 years to renew. Seems continuing education and shooting should be involved. But thats my soapbox I guess. My instructor was very knowledgeble and very helpful so at least it had that aspect... Shooting was 12 rounds at 3 yards, 24 rounds at 7 yards and 12 rounds at 15 yards. I mean, 3 yards is just a waste...if you cant hit that you shouldnt be allowed to ever handle a gun.
  13. I have to say the outdated video was quite entertaining. I am concerned however how "simple" this class is. I hardly learned anything I didn't learn when I was 12 and took the Hunter's Ed Class. Even the laws and regs they taught can be read and found online very easily. Not to mention the target shooting. Good grief shouldn't it be hard to obtain an HCP?
  14. FYI Gunnys has also raised thier Carry Permit Class to $85...I think it used to be $60 or $65 before the "change"
  15. ...they were very busy. We got there at 10am when they opened the doors and by the time we signed the waivers there were at least 20 people there. They treated us OK I guess, but they did seem peeved whenever we didnt stand in the exact spot at the counter that they wanted us to. I also screwed up and called a magazine a clip and that got me a few "it's a magazine!" remarks. WTF? I know what it is, it was just a slip of the toungue that didnt require 3 or 4 smarta$$es from behind the counter to remark on. Anyway, there were 4 of us and we got two lanes. The lady was actually pretty nice to us when going over everything and she let us split the $15 rental fee between the 4 of us. The only catch was we had to buy ammo for the rental guns. Luckily I had some extra for the guns I brought and we only had to buy two boxes of ammo . They let us try about 5 different guns, with no attitude or problem when we went to swap em out. A few times I went back out they were packed and even had a waiting list for the range, but they helped me as quick as they could. Were they in a great mood? No. But they didnt treat me poorly, just "satisfactory." As for the range, everything seemed in order. It was colder than you know what in there, so I had to wear my fleece the whole time, but I guess that is better than it being hot! Lighting was good, no thugs in sight, but the retreival system would knock your nose off your face if you didnt stop it in time...lol As far as ranges go, it was OK and the prices were good too. The only reason we went is because 3 of the 4 of us are looking at buying a new gun and they had the M&P and XD's there to shoot as rentals. In future, due to the drive (no real fault of CCA) I will goto Gunny's. They guys at Gunny's are more friendly than the folks at CCA. I was not treated badly at CCA, but you know you can tell when someone really enjoys thier job and helping people (Gunny's) and when someone is doing just enough to provide decent customer service to earn a paycheck (CCA). All in all I give CCA about a 6 out of 10 and Gunny's is more like an 8.5 or 9 out of 10. Of course, it doesnt hurt that Gunny's is 20 min away from home and CCA is 45 min away. I did find it funy that I asked a guy at CCA what the 9mm M&P runs and he said $520...I looked int hier case and they had a new one for $589!
  16. They are going about the same as the "full size" XDM's on gunbroker (Buy it Now, anyway.) I couldnt agree more. I shot a compact XD 9mm and hated the grip. Then I shot a full size XD 40 and I really loved the grip. From what I hear the XDM grip is even better (have yet to shoot or hold one since I cant seem to find them locally). Since I dont plan to actually carry a gun except once in a blue moon, the shorter barrel is just a tad bit more convenient for my truck and/or nightstand. I also think it looks better BUT all this could change once I get to shoot one. Heck, I may end up with a full size XDM before it is said and done!
  17. What store are you at in Knoxville?
  18. Not to revive a dead horse, but has anyone shot one of these? I went to CCA today and tried out the XD, S&W M&P and an XD Compact and I was more impressed with the M&P. Of course, they didn't have an XDM (much less an XDM 3.8) to shoot. Looking for some feedback on the XDM 3.8 (as far as shooting, not cosmetic, conceal ability, etc that has already been covered). Thanks in advance.
  19. Myself and two others had an incident from 2000 expunged. It didnt show up on our employment background checks...BUT...one of my friends works at ORNL and when he applied for his Q clearance it DID show up. Thankfully he fully disclosed it to them and when they interviewed me as a reference I also disclosed it to them. At the time of the incident, my lawyer also told my parents and I that having it expunged would keep it off my record. I am not saying he lied, but I dont feel he told us the WHOLE truth. Anyway, we have grown up since then and I dont think that an irresponsible act from 10 years ago should be held against me...but I dont blame someone for making me take X amount of years to prove I am responsible... FYI, my friend got his Q clearance...
  20. i just fell in love again...
  21. why would you want to conceal this beauty? lol I keep coming back to this one too:
  22. I saw the 3.8, looks nice but I want the "full" 4.5...lol
  23. I want one... That is all.
  24. Thanks for all the responses. They have really helped. I am, however, having issues finding the desert eagle online. Mine is a 41 with the extra 10" barrell. All I can seem to find online are 44 and 50s. Argh!
