Bill would allow deadly force against carjackers
shaftbass replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Taking the time, going through the training class, and spending the money to get a permit shows that you are a responsible, law abiding citizen. That is a +1 on your side if you ever have to shoot someone in self-defense and go to court. -

Why wouldn't you get the permit You said you weren't sure you wanted one but didn't say any reason. Why should you? Well, keep up the news around here and everywhere. Laws on "gun crimes" (ie: carrying without a permit) are getting tougher with mandatory jail time and can land you in some serious ****. It would cost a ton of money in legal fees, you could go to jail for a stint, then who's going to be there to protect your family? Just spend the money, take the Saturday, and get the permit. A guy on here even does it for $20 in Gallatin. I realize that's out of the way but there are people where you live who teach the class. I just don't understand why someone in a state which allows handgun permits wouldn't want to get one, yet carries a handgun. -
It stalls.. they use excuses like "guns and alcohol don't mix" even though people responsible enough to take the time for training and spend nearly $200 dollars for the right to carry their handgun aren't going to be the ones drinking. Lawmakers are also afraid that where there is alcohol there are drunks, and there are fights, and that drunks do dumb stuff (like grab an armed citizen's gun). Well I say horse ****. I have the right to protect myself no matter where I go. Other states (KY for example) allow carry where alcohol is served as long as 51% of the revenue is made from food and not alcohol - I read this a while ago. Someone please correct me if this is not the exact case. When is the last time anyone heard of a drunk grabbing someone else's gun and shooting a bar? Well maybe that song Bubba Shot The Jukebox, but it was his own gun there Besides, bars don't have metal detectors We're on our own until Nafieh is out of there. Edit: Kentucky law states: Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense beer or alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to that purpose; - so the way I read that is, you could go into a Ruby Tuesday, but not go sit at the bar.

$20 is a deal. These days it's $50, $75, or even $100 at some places.

Hi Mike.. what say we get together and do some burnouts this weekend
-
Nah, he took the slide and put it on his barrel and frame, and shot it. Obviously it will be slightly different when I put it back on my barrel and frame since all guns are different. Since the sights are adjustable though, I will get them how I want them, cinch the screw down and loc-tite it in place.

This may have been mentioned and maybe I looked over it, but is Fighting Pistol a prerequisite for the FOF course?
-
Well I didn't exactly sent it to him to fix, I just wanted sights installed and when I mentioned that it was shooting left, he said he could try adjusting them for me if I wanted; it would give him an excuse to go to the range. I called him today and he said that it shipped out this morning, and that it was shooting straight after adjusting the front and rears a little. If they're moved over too much, I might just have to sent it to Springfield for the shooting left problem. Otherwise it won't be on center at ranges other than what it was sighted in at. Hopefully it shows up Saturday so I can go put a few hundred rounds through it on Sunday morning!

What brand of ammunition do you use in your carry weapon?
shaftbass replied to TGO David's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Why?--Typing this part to meet the 10 character post minimum-- -
Carry it and tuck it under the seat every day. Make it a point to not let anyone at your work know you carry, and don't take people out in your vehicle for lunch or whatever reason.. that way if you get pulled over and show the cop your permit & tell him about your gun, your co-worker isn't going to tattle on you. You might be paranoid for a few days, but after that it will be second nature.
-
He is working on it and it should ship out tomorrow morning.. He took it to the range once and put the slide on a barrel and frame he knows shoots straight, and it still shoots far to the left. I may have to send it to Springfield.. hooray for lifetime warranty. Let's hope this is the only time I need to use it!

Barrett Annual on news stands now!
shaftbass replied to James Yeager's topic in Training Discussions
I will be looking for it. -
Well I don't even want that, I just want my slide with new sights installed. I've taken into account that something could have come up but reading some of the other posts on XDtalk I don't think this is unusual. At first I thought maybe these were just a small few disgruntled customers, but it looks more and more like what they are saying is true. This reminds me of why no one but me works on my cars or just about anything I own Now guns are included in that. I should have just bought the sight pusher.

Man, as I've said, I can't wait for my back to get better so I can take some of these classes. It kills me because I want to make plans to get some of this training and have a blast doing it, but it looks more physical than I can stand at the moment.

Well he's had it since Feb 3. It's now the 13th and I don't have my slide. So much for 48 hour turnaround -Called last Monday, he said they lacked installing the front sight, and it would ship Wednesday.. didn't show up. -Called last Friday and he said they were waiting for sights for it to come in and that they would be there Saturday - this is after he said they had already started installing them - said it would ship Saturday.. here it is Tuesday (it's coming from Birmingham) and it's not here yet. So much for the advertised 48 hour turnaround time. I know he probably gets busy being a one man show. The last time I called he said he had 50 slides in house. I can take being without the gun for two weeks but when the website says 48 hour turnaround, I am 2 days via USPS away, and I am told the sights are in stock, don't promise me two days and then not deliver. Just tell me up front if they aren't really in stock! Tell me if it's not really going to be two days. If this were my main carry gun I'd be kinda pissed. I am going to give him until this Friday which will be two weeks before I make a thread where he advertises on XDtalk.com. I don't want to but if he keeps pushing the ship date back, I'm just going to request that he charge back my credit card back and I will pay for him to ship the slide back to me. Worst case I will arrange to drive to B-ham and pick it up myself. He seems like a really nice guy on the phone but damn, I have a feeling that place is very disorganized. Cannon Fondler can say "I told you so" now

There is an assload of Fox pepper spray on ebay: http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=fox+pepper+spray&category0=&submitSearch=Search Speaking of that, I'd like to get some pepper spray myself. I got my girlfriend some a while ago, and I'd like to have some, too.

I had a 36 also and I liked it. The reasons I sold it are because I wanted the extra capacity of the XD-45 and I liked the way it felt better. That being said, I'd own another 36 again.
