Ok so if I were going to pick up some Japanese offerings where should I start? I'll pay the price if it's worth the money just not sure which direction to go.

Do you have a taste for scotch? If not I would try to sample some at a bar before you pick up a whole bottle. The Scotch influence is all over Japanese Whiskey.

  2. Will throw out that Jordan B Peterson is doing a 12 part podcast on the psychology behind the biblical stories and so far I have found it to be tremendous. And I am in no way religious.

  3. Two months ago we welcomed this young patriot into the world. Last week one of my best friends in the world got back from his first deployment with the absolute elite of the elite SF in the Army. He brought this home for my son, and I won't lie about it...I choked up. This little fella has made me all kinds of soft.

This flag represents all that I think is great about our country, and is easily my most prized possession. I hope I raise this young patriot to love this country half as much as the steely eyed freedom fighter that faced our enemies under this flag in Syria.

    Caption on flag reads:

"This flag was flown by the first American forces to enter and assault Raqqa, Syria on 14 June 2017. It was raised to honor and celebrate the birth and lifelong freedom of Wyatt Patrick. OPPRESSORS BEWARE"

I read an article the other day that suggested a Glencairn Glass as a good way to enjoy bourbon. I typically use a rocks glass and drink it neat. The gentleman served me in a Glencairn and they was kind enough to send me home with it. It really makes a world of difference in taste. Even with my old standby Jim Beam it really livened it up.

I would suggest that the difference in taste you are experiencing in the Glencairn is most likely the concentration of aroma from out of the glass. I will only use a rocks glass anymore for mixed drinks or something I know I will have on the rocks, otherwise I'm exclusively using the Glencairn glass because I love the smells I find now almost as much as the taste.

Fair warning, I did not take a ton of pictures.

I'll start by saying that Maker's Mark was head and shoulders above the rest, and I took 12 tours. They just knocked it out of the park. Even if you don't enjoy their products the tour is worth the trip.

The next tier belongs to Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve, Wild Turkey, and Jim Beam, and Bulleit (Stitzel). They were all pretty great. Angels Envy was also surprisingly cool, well worth a stop if you're in Louisville. These I would make it a point to visit if you're on the trail, even if you don't care for their product. The drive in to Woodford is worth it alone, absolutely stunning.

The rest were all pretty meh. The tasting bar at 4 Roses is good, but the grounds are decidedly average. The remainder are fairly unremarkable, so unless you are a fan of a certain product, or are looking for an offering only sold at the distillery, I wouldn't consider them worth the time or drive.

New here - New to TN, new to TGO, and new to Bourbon.  Over the past few days, I've read all 48 pages of this thread.  Learned a lot.

How does one get to be 60 years old and never try Bourbon?

Except for Drambuie, which I do love, I've always been a beer drinker.  But, the wife and I went out to eat a couple months ago, and the beer selection sucked, so I ordered one of my riding buddies' favorite drinks, Makers Mark with very little ice.  Not to bad, so I tried it a few more times...Still good.

Last week I stopped into the local store where I get my beer, and on a whim bought some 70/30 Black Label from Knox Whiskey Works, which is a relatively new distillery in Knoxville.  Turns out it is a sourced product, but still pretty tasty.

I happen to live in Knoxville, and it turns out I am down by the liquor store Mike.357 works at, pretty regularly.  Hoping to stop there soon and meet him, and pick up some good beginner Bourbon to try.

Thanks for all the information, gang.

Over the last 6 months I have gone all in on Bourbon, it has become a bit of an obsession. What you're describing is pretty much exactly how I got started.

There is nothing wrong with sourced whiskey, a lot of folks do it. Just drink what you like, how you like it.

My only piece of advice is don't get your heart set on Elmer T Lee based off the hight praise in this thread, you'll never see a bottle in the wild!

Bob's Liquor is where I go when I can swing a trip. We have a member who works there and they have pretty much everything and anything you can think of. 9am - 9:30pm. (865)693-2483. You can always call on your way up next time and see if they have any.

Stopped in Monday night and they had 2 bottles this time. Now I'm all set!

Thanks, I stopped by there on my way home from Kingsport yesterday. No Blantons, but I did pick up a bottle of Yellow Spot for a great price.

I only deal with mutts and I do believe this gentleman is set on a "pure bred".

I would strongly urge you to do your research in the process and make certain that you deal with a reputable breeder. Sadly the AKC backs a lot of puppy mills and supports them by not cracking down on them. I'd avoid any breeders out of Oklahoma and Missouri if possible because of that. Make sure you have full access to both parents and can view the whole property.

Otherwise I'd stick to my recommendation of adoption. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue out of Nashville might have a golden. My local rescue only adopts to the north-east now so. All my pups went north or went to TGO members and one went to a neighbor of TDR.

Thank you for the recommendations. Yes, we are only looking at Golden Retrievers this time. We are thoroughly vetting the breeders we have come across so far, and I'm only interested in dealing locally where I can see the parents and be on site. Which is probably why I've had such a difficult time finding what I'm after.

  10. Thank you all for the replies. There are some good places to start there. I'm very tempted by a few of the rescue goldens, but I'm on the road more for work these days and don't have the time required to rehab those beautiful pups. Also, I appreciate the recommendation for shelter dogs. I will probably go that route when we get ready for a second, but on this go round I'm firmly settled on another golden retriever.

  11. Hello TGO,

We had to let go of our best buddy this summer and since then all I've been hearing from the 7 year old is how bad he wants another pup. It took me a minute to let go of the hurt from putting down my pal this summer, but now I think it's time.

I'm quite partial to Golden Retrievers, but I haven't been able to find one that isn't $2000 and up. This is going to be a family dog, not a show pup. I do prefer AKC certified just for long term health reasons. Does anyone here know of a reputable breeder that is anywhere within a reasonable driving distance from Chattanooga?

Any recommendations for Golden Retrievers will be greatly appreciated, thank you!
