  1. I took On Target's class and was less than impressed. For one, at $115 it was the highest priced class around. I mainly took it there because of time, close to house. Found the instructor to be a little arrogant and when questions were asked he made some people feel like they asked a "dumb" question. The range part was like someone else said, no drawing from your holster, and seemed overly strict as to simply picking up the gun from the shelf, firing it, then laying it back down.
  2. Kinda senseless whether you are restricted to a 10 round mag or a 15 round one when you can have no ammunition loaded in them when carrying. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of carrying.
  3. Yeah, I remember going to that mailbox EVERy day for 5 weeks. It absolutely drove me crazy. Even though 5 weeks now is a long wait, those who got theirs long ago waited even longer. Don't know how I would have been able to handle that.
  4. Would have hated to be working for the CSI Unit. "Colon Screened Improperly" Unit?
  5. It sounds like you have experienced the situation which will encourage you to "always carry". I experienced it this past Christmas in a mall parking lot when I met up with 4 guys who were intent on relieving me of my burden. Like they say about the American Express card, "Don't leave home without it". Glad everything worked out for you.
  6. Interesting video and circumstances this time Former Marine Faces Charges for Gun Possession in NYC - Fox News Video - Fox News Upon watching this video the 2nd time, the guy accessed a site, which they show a screen shot of, which appears to list states beside NY, which includes TN, but without seeing the entire site it's hard to tell where he got this bad information. What's also interesting is the woman conducting this video interview is a former judge and prosecutor.
  7. You know what they say... Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
  8. How silly of me to think this could be self explanatory. If, as we all have talked about in these forums and amongst ourselves, we ever have to defend ourselves, upon the LEO arrival we could be mistaken for the bad guy and shot. Im pretty confident in myself that I wouldn't be ignorant enough to shoot two people wrestling on the ground.
  9. We've all talked about it... and we've all played it out in our heads how we would respond. Just one example of how things can go terribly wrong. Report: Federal Agent May Have Been Fatally Shot By Friendly Fire At N.Y. Pharmacy | Fox News
  10. Which is exactly why so much responsibility comes with carrying a HCP and a firearm. If you have a problem with someone calling you a sissy (not the word I was looking for but this IS a forum with rules) and can't walk away without being able to swallow your pride then you shouldn't be carrying. You never know how far you might be pushed to a confrontation and quite frankly running from it might be your best alternative. No, change that, it probably WILL be your best alternative. Some cocky young guys who might be around friends would have a hard time letting someone insult them and walking away, all the while being laughed at. But that's where the discipline and responsibility would need to be present. I'm a strong type A personality and the military made me that way. I waited a long time before getting my permit. I finally felt it was no longer necessary to prove myself to people who I knew I didn't need to but let them push my buttons. I wear zippers now.
  11. Not saying I don't believe this but I find it unprofessional and lacking in officer safety for an officer to ask an unknown person to put their hands on their weapon and hand it over to him. More than likely he is going to disarm you if he insists to take control of the firearm. It's also in the regulations I believe to never place your hands on your firearm in the presence of a LEO. Don't think I would be stupid enough to make that move even if I WAS asked. I believe I'd ask to step out of the car and let the officer disarm me. My luck he'd shoot me and say I was going for it.
  12. Having ferried these professionals around for many years and having finally allowed one to catch me, I can tell you those instructors are citing an old old law and that there is simply no such law, code, or rule that states such. A nurse can only be faulted if she has, like FallGuy said, accepted responsibility for care for an individual and neglects to render said care. And only while employed. An off duty RN is covered by the "Good Samaritan Law" FallGuy mentioned earlier from civil action IF he/she decides to stop and help someone. Having said that, any RN, EMT, or other medical professional worth his/her salt would have a hard time passing by someone in need.
  13. Why are you telling Patrick youre sorry for it being too far away? Whatever county you shoot someone in is where you will be tried, and he has gone out on a limb and offered to at least counsel you if you should happen to be involved in a SD shooting. I think that's admirable. I'm sure it would be up to him whether he wanted to take your case. Hell, Ive needed a lawyer a couple times and called a family lawyer who turned it down, so to have someone who is gun pro willing to at least counsel you is a plus in my book. I already put his info in my phone under Shooting! Thanks Patrick
  14. No one has mentioned the GAP versions. Since I carry a G23 I would like to transition to the G38, which shoots the GAP. I dont have a problem with acquiring ammo for it, and Ive found research that shows it does better than ACP. I know I'll take fire for this thread, as their are loyal ACPers out there. Just wondering what everyone thinks of the GAP. Do hardcore 45 auto guys feel it is a slap in the face to ole John? My reasoning is I already have alot invested in holsters for the 23, which the 38 will fit. My hands are too big for the subcompact 36 or 30 auto. I have a Wilson and an Ed, but would never carry them.
  15. Unless they are a part of Robert Arnold's "take care of your fellow good ole boy's" club at the RCSO, then they can do whatever they want.
  16. Especially since she's single and a friend. Tis' the season for giving... She could probably use the money for other things.
  17. I'm fully aware that he was in his place of business and authorized to carry. My point was that, regardless of whether or not he was a HCP holder, this is good for the cause. More people with guns who are protecting what's theirs is the message here.
  18. WOW. Just goes to show ya, huh? Thanks for the additional info. Very interesting, indeed. If you don't trust your gun handling abilities enough to keep a defensive round in the chamber maybe you should keep the chamber empty. Then when you pull the trigger accidently you wont have anything to worry about. Better than a FMJ going through alot of things you never intended it to.
  19. Maybe it will convince them to get their HCP. Woman Kidnapped At Cool Springs Mall - NewsChannel5.com | Nashville News, Weather & Sports
  20. Don't know whether this clerk was a HCP holder, but it's good to see when those that think they can take what isn't theirs get what they ask for Clerk fatally shoots robbery suspect, claims self-defense - WKRN, Nashville, Tennessee News, Weather and Sports |
  21. Bonded core ammunition has been shown to improve weight retention and increase penetration. ( So the experts say ) I work in the medical field and, while not saying this didn't happen, I find it hard to believe tried and true medical personnel reacted like that, unless they were interns or in a teaching environment. But youre right, everyone reacts differently.
