  1. I'm sure theres some bad ones out there but all I've heard about them is good. Sure they don't have the frills but seem to be a good solid shotgun. I almost bought one years ago as a turkey gun. Bought a camo Model 500.
  2. I personally have a .357 and have confidence in it. Yeah I know its a revolver and that a lot of people think something won't work unless its got at least 10 rds. But its a good caliber. If I was gonna use the .45 or 9mm I would use the .45. Thats just me. I'm still a little pissed about the Gov. forcing it on the Military. And yes I know why. Because of standardization in NATO. But it sucks as a military round in the ball ammo.
  3. Yeah TWRA has a wierd idea abou controlling nonnative species. I called once and talked to a guy at TWRA and asked why they had a controlled season on a species that can be a pest? He didn't really have a answer. He kinda talked around the whole thing. Must be a politician.
  4. DavidM, that sounds like real snailmail. Mine took about 80 days or so to get back. I hope yours is way faster.
  5. I've heard the same thing about'em.
  6. Yeah your both right.
  7. I don't use a AR15 but I got a Savage 110e in .223 and a 55gr. spitzer works pretty good. It seems to have good punch. I use to use Sierra's but since I can't find them anymore around here I use Speer. Load them to about 3200 fps. Thats what I do. A 50 gr. would probably work ok too.
  8. What I think is wierd is AK47's have been made for a long time and I've never seen one for sale that was C&R.
  9. Hunting101, yeah bud the wind is been rough as a cob today. I went this morning and one of my decoys blew over. I did call 5 jakes into about 30 yards but didn't shoot. I'm trying to get another good bird. I may regret letting the jakes walk later on. Hope you get the good bird you been seeing.
  10. May 8 - June 13 spring squirrel season.
  11. OOH. I'm afraid to look in mine now.
  12. OhShoot, They could be bud. All they need is a buzz cut and a flannel shirt. lol.
  13. Mike, nice bird bud. I missed one this morning about 10:30. Too far. I'd not tried a crazy long shot like that in a long time. About 60 yards.
  14. Yeah I hear ya. I get that way to sometimes. It reminds me of that commercial on the Outdoor Channel. "If your not hunting. Your thinking about hunting". Just hang in there man.
  15. Yeah hens sometimes have beards. But I would leave the old girls alone. Like Oldogy said thats where the next generation comes from. If you like hunting turkeys I'd let them walk. I saw a bearded hen a few days ago and enjoyed seeing her and as far as I know shes still alive. Its your choice.
  16. Yeah like FroggyOne2 said, the .22-243 Middlestead is a Wildcat round. The .22-250 and .220 Swift are not all that bad as varmint rounds. They shoot flat too. A friend had a Savage 110 in .22-250 that was a great groundhog and crow rifle. The Swift is not all that bad if you don't load the very fast loads. What gave the swift such a bad reputation was the load that was used. A 48 gr. bullet at a advertised 4140 fps. a real screamer.
  17. Yeah know what you mean. I've seen several chances at more than one deer a day. Turkeys too.
  18. And he dropped both too. Wow!
  19. Can't tell in the pic. How long is beard, spurs, and weight? Nice bird .
  20. Yap .327 would be a great rifle round in something short and compact. The fast .32's have been tried before in small handguns. Remember the .32 H&R Mag.?
  21. Yeah I may just try high brass #5 or #6 loads. I just wish I could find a load with over 1 1/8 oz. Something like 1 1/4 oz. or better. Hunting 101, no this gun don't have choke tubes. Its older than me. Its a tight full choke barrel.
  22. I've got a brother in law that only uses a 20 Guage. He started out using a old Rem. model 41 that used to belong to his uncle. He saw that he liked using a 20 and stuck with it. He did say though that 30 yards or so is his limit. He shot one once at about 40 and it flew off a ways and died. He found it though. I would find shells with the most shot and use them. Preferably 3" mags. with #5 or #6 shot.
  23. I guess nobody else has seen any either. Winchester makes turkey ammo but can't find any.
  24. If your gonna handload your in luck. Do what I do and load down to .300 Savage power. My rifle is like yours but mine don't have the Guardia Civil crest. I've killed probably 20 deer with mine over the last 15 years. I've even played with .30 Carbine handloads in mine. The small ring Mausers like the 88,91,93(which is basicly what you have),94,95,96 all are rated for 45,000 psi. Full power .308 ammo is 50,000+. I fired some full power .308 Federal ammo in mine when I first got it but heard it was a bad idea so I stopped that. But the old rifle took it in stride. How long it would have done that I don't know. I'm just saying be careful.
