I was in NC in Spring of 09 at a school and they had given us a couple of Nikon D2X digital camera's and told us to go take some stop action photo's, and me being the good person that I am had finished my AR build during the school and had brought down a few more toys as well. After 3 hours at the range and several hundred rounds later me an 2 friends ended up taking these sweet shots: That was my XD45 in a coyote brown two-tone duracoat before I did my Multi-cam Digital Duracoat on it, here's that if you haven't seen it: Enjoy, GR32 (EDIT: the AR has since gone through an optics overhaul. It now has an EOTech with an EOTech 4x Magnifier. It has also gotten a new paintjob, it's an orange tip away from looking like a plastic airsoft gun with it's satin black finish.)

Not to sure where the Tokarev thing came from....anyways back to the original thread. I finally found my Hogue Mono Wood Grip, Allen's Gun Shop had one...the only shop in town that had one. It wasn't the Cocobolo wood that I wanted but it was the Goncalo Alves which has a good grain pattern. And to bring this thread out of the worthless realm for Alpha and all others out there he is the .30 cal Blackhawk with new mono grip and my Stoeger Coach Supreme: Enjoy, GR32

I've been in a few military schools lately or out of the country so I have had to turn down numerous duracoat jobs since I didn't know when I was going to be back at the house. We'll I've got my vynil cutter up and running and found a beer mug sitting in the cabinet that I decided needed some sprucing up. This was my first attempt so it didn't quite go as planned. I had the media blaster running a little hot (80 psi was a bit much) and it started destroying some of the vynil overlays. Here's my first run at etching glass:

I was visiting my parents in Ohio and dad and I went to the local shop that had an indoor shooting range to run through the pistols and shotguns. When we were done, like always, I browsed the pistol cabinets when I found a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 Cal Carbine. Well I couldn't pass it up, I have a friend that has one and told me good luck ever finding another one, granted I know they are still made so it is something that can be ordered, but for $445 it was mine. One thing that I'm looking for is some decent ammo, where can I get like UMC or something other than Black Bear in the Nashville area? The next thing that I am looking for is a Hogue Mono Wooden Grip, where can I get one without ordering online? I also wanted to put it out there that if you haven't gotten the chance to fire one of these you're missing out. Any help with the ammo or grip is appreciated.

Below are my three builds, all fairly smiliar, built out of boredom or to try out new items. Some of the parts that I like out of these are the Sun Devil lower reciever, can't go wrong with a DPMS LPK, DPMS or RRA Chrome BCG, the Adams Arms Piston, Magpul MIAD pistol grip, YHM Diamond One Peice Free Floating Rail, VLTOR MUR-1A Upper, Sabre Defense Barrels, LMT SOPMOD 2 Buttstock and a good EOTech. There are a lot of different companies represented on these rifles, if there are any questions I can do a parts rundown for each. All have a 14.5" barrel with a pinned flash hider, I went with a 14.5" since it looks better to me and I know I can reach out a few hundred meters with one, anything out past 500m I'd rather be using a bolt action anyways. All three rifles were Duracoated by myself and the designs/graphics were hand cut. Here's the pictures:

A steady hand and an almost OCD approach to everything tends to help when doing these projects. [EDIT] Murgatory, I didn't want to finish the tops of the mags since I didn't want them to start wearing away and having to refinish them later. The tolerances aren't bad and they don't hinder the performance of anything. I have the mag release completely covered and there are some fairly tight tolerances there and I have no problem with anything sticking in there. Once the mags are in the mag well the unfinished portion doesn't show.

This is the latest build, not too bad 4 AR's in 2 years and throw a deployment in the mix getting in the way of progress. Here's a quick parts rundown, Sun Devil Lower filled with DPMS parts, Magpul MIAD, Magpul front and rear MBUS, YHM Diamond 1 peice FF Rail, MI rail height gas block, Tangodown foregrip, DPMS chrome bolt, Badger latch, 14.5" chrome lined Del-ton barrel capped with a YHM Phantom 5C1. Here's the gun porn: The magazines (both sides) from left to right on second picture; SF unit patch, SF cross arrow skull and Punisher skull: Rifle close-ups: All images were drawn onto 3M painters tape and cut by hand and the paint color is Duracoat Magpul Flat Dark Earth, the darker tan has some black mixed into it and the lighter has some white mixed into it to get the contrast.

I had a little time off from work thanks to the flooding here in Clarksville. I decided to try my hand at duracoating a digital pattern. I went with a Digi-Multi-cam pattern...not sure if I'll ever do it again. It was extremely time consuming. Here's the pics, I'm looking for some criticism so feel free.

TF we call people decked out with the latest tactical gear "Gear Queers" same concept. In my collection, the Black AR is what happens when I'm 600 miles away from my wife and she says she's "I don't want to hear about it anymore" when it came to me considering the build, so I stopped talking about it and just did it. It still gets brought up constantly.

Cabela's has it for 22.99 a box of 20. [Edit] Nevermind it's on a 1-2 week back order...sorry. What about blue and silver tip glazers? Anyone like those?

Very nice I had one similar setup, with a folding foregrip, replaced the rear sight with a mount and a Doctor on it, and an old Romanian wood pistol grip and side folding skeleton stock I had sitting around...gave it to my Dad for a just because I'm in town present, he liked it. Nice work on it, let me know how the sling works out for you I might have to get something similiar for his.

I didn't buy it that way, I did that with time, patients, blue 3M tape and Duracoat. It's all hand cut and sprayed by myself. thanks for the good words, hopefully my frend feels the same about it.

Latest build. I'm building an AR for a friend that's in the Airforce, we were on the same firebase in Iraq. This is the project so far, still having trouble getting barrels in. I have the rest of the parts just have to Duracoat them still. Just looking for opinions, not too bad in my opinion for laying out the pattern with some blue 3m tape and an exacto knife.

I'm fond of my MOD (Masters of Defense) Allen Elishewitz Nightwing, with the serrated back and partial serrated blade. I've also got a Gerber LMF II Infantry, it's extremely nice. Cool guy points will go to the MOD knife though, it comes with a sheaththat has an outside pouch that you can put an M9 mag or a multi-tool in.

What about folks like me, I keep my pistol in the top drawer of my night stand...just like dad used to do, the shotgun closest to the bed between the nightstand, my AR between the nightstand and a 10/22 under myside of the bed...along with a few suprises I don't care to mention for any potential bad guys. Do they make a rack big enough to keep all of my home protection needs at my fingertips?

I'm going to have to agree Harbor Freight will have some decent cheap punches, if you want a little better quality you can run to walmart and get some Stanley's nd if you're willing to shell out the big bucks get to Sears and get some Craftsman ($45 for a set of 16 or $5 a peice). Or you can do what I did and get on Midway and get some good Lyman Roll Pin Punches, Lymans Brass/Nylon hammer, Grace Brass Punches and then go to Sears and get some good steel punches and a nice ball peen hammer.

I'm always willing to take on new jobs as long as they are local, and by local I mean as long as you are willing to meet me atleast half way. And as long as I'm in town long enough to get the work done. I'm still looking to build my camo portfolio, I think I have the multi-cam thing down, I've got two-tone down, I've got solid colors down and I'm still working on getting intracate designs down. After talking to a few guys on 1911.com for a multi-cam job like that we came up with $175 for a pistol (full pistol, 1x mag), $250 for a bolt action (stock and barrel done seperate to give better apperance + scope (scope caps are a no-go...for some reason they don't cooperate with me)) and $300 for an "assault"/tactical rifle (3x accessories i.e. eotech, foregrip, flip-up front and rear sights (I count them as the same)) and $25 per accessory above what's listed. Less intracate patterns will obviously be priced accordingly. I sand blast if necessary, or just rough up the surface to give the duracoat something to bond to, degrease after a good cleaning, phosphorus coat, then start laying on the camo.

On average from start of drawing to masking the firearm it's about 2.5/3 hours for a rifle and about an hour and a half or so for a pistol for each mask. There are 2 of the full length masks for the browns and greens and the accent (brown and white) dots are just negative masks and those take about an hour to do and there are two of them. In all is about 8 or more hours of just taping in a rifle and about 5 in a pistol.

To lay out the patterns I comandeered my wife's big cutting board and used some 3" wide blue 3m low adhesive tape. I'd draw the pattern with a perminant marker, and cut it out with an exacto knife. All camo weapons that I Duracoat are truely custom, I don't use plotter cut generic patters. The bumble bee was actually hard to zero so I sold it and got a stuffed gorilla.

The 4th is a Remington 700 that as you can see is in a Multi-cam pattern done for...you guessed it...the same guy. I've got a few more projects I'm working on right now, one's getting rid of the Nickel Teflon coating on a POF AR and doing a solid black on it, I've g another AR I'm doing in a ghost AM Pinstripe pattern with 2 hues of black and possibly with the POW/MIA symbol on the side of the upper and lower, I'm also putting a custom job on my XD with what I'm refering to as an "urban multi-cam" as well as my units flash on the pistol grip...those pictures will follow later.
