  1. Welcome.... Nice buy!!!!
  2. Bummer... get another one.
  3. I am leaning more towards having it done professionally, either way (duracoat or water dipped) ... although the film size on a hydrographics kit is large enough to be able to practice before working on the rifle. I might try the kit to decorate other items instead.
  4. I have a new 6.8 gas piston upper while I took to the range Friday afternoon. I shot 30 rounds of factory Hornady ammo and the rifle cycled properly and functioned as expected. This morning, after wiping it down I attempted to cycle a dummy round (made from brass) and found it very difficult to pull back on the charging handle as I attempted to manually cycle the action. It was so hard that I had to pull back the handle with my left hand and pound the right side with the handle of a Klein screwdriver to extract the round. I was curious so I took it to the basement and performed the same exact process using live factory ammo. I had the same result. I can't seem to diagnose why it is behaving this way. I did not disassemble the rifle whern I wiped it down, basically just ran a wet patch of CLP through the bore and ran a few dry patches until it appeared clean and wiped down the bolt... never took it apart as it looked very clean. Any suggestions on why the charging handle is binding? The rifle will cycle very easy without a round and the bolt would go into battery as expected.
  5. I've been considering a camouflage finish on a Doublestar AR15 and doing some research on using either a duracoat finish or a water based transfer graphics. I know a lot of my friends have used duracoat before and were happy with the durability and finish. I don't know very many people that have used the latter method but I have seen them applied on car/truck dashboards. I like the way they look but durability is suspect since I don't have enough info. Has anyone here ever used the dipping method? How durable is the finish? The rifle will probably get the "normal" usage; mostly for range activity (no hunting) and target practice... no extensive hard use.
  6. I already did, I got a 16" CMMG 6.8 SPC GP Upper... I am painting the chassis and furniture coyote brown and hoping to shoot in two weeks...
  7. Nope... not even when using the bobsled....
  8. Ive shot a Noveski (sp) barrelled AR that my friend has. He said that the barrel, because of polygonal rifling, can generate faster velocities... i don't buy it unless someone chrono's it and proves it to me.... ... BTW, the shots felt the same, no difference in recoil but it did shoot well I managed close to a 1 inch group at 200 yds with four rounds on factory ammo.
  9. Agreed... should be able to carry anywhere as long as the permit holder is not drinking alcohol. ANYWHERE!
  10. That was the worst three hours of this winter... it took me 3.5 hours to get 17 miles from work to home. Along the way I saw many cars abandoned but my little ford edge made it through.... The best winter vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler with a set of knobby tires... that sucker will go anywhere because of the 4wd and the short wheelbase
  11. Awesome input Dolomite!
  12. How can it be unfamiliar if I'm just going back to where I came from? Think about it.
  13. I don't have one... yet You gotta love the ability to dump a full magazine when desired... kinda makes shooting fun
  14. Funny.... you make it sound as if all city dwellers actually grew up in the "city"... I know more about living off the land as my current address would have you believe.
  15. That thing is DOA when it hits the market... I just don't see it taking off
  16. Anyone have lot of experience with GP AR uppers? I was eyeballing a CMMG 6.8 upper but would like some input on the characteristics (reliability, accuracy, etc.) of the product. Also is it true that the GP upper negates the buffer and springs so that a folding stock can be attached? Thanks!
  17. I used to when I lived in West TN (Camden) but since moving here in Nashville, I haven't been able to have as much fun. It is so much fun, even with just clay targets on a stand....
  18. 1000 rounds per firearm is a good stockpile... Prices will only go up... especially when the zombie epidemic starts...
  19. LOL... the avatar and the moniker is a just a tribute. but I wouldn't mind shooting a baddie, especially those punks that try that home invasion BS. Anyway Steel, know a place to shoot?
  20. I'd like to know if there is a place in Middle Tennessee where I can shoot at old refrigerators, cars, washing machines, 16" blocks, etc. I'm tired of going to the TWRA facility and shooting at paper targets... My Beowulf needs to "stretch its legs".... Your input is appreciated!
  21. Went there and missed out on a Grendel... I meant to buy it on Sunday but the guy sold it Saturday afternoon...
