installing night sights

Hey Guys,

I'm not a gunsmith, but I'd like to try installing my new Trijicon night sights on my Sig P225 myself. It seems pretty simple and straightforward. I'm a mechanically inclined person, but this is something I've never done before. I don't want to do anything to permanently damage my gun.

This is the process as I understand it:

1. Check the current sights using a bore laser

2. Tap old sights out with a punch

3. Clean and file grooves with acetone (and small file, if needed)

4. Glue new sights with Loctite 609 and tap into place lining up with laser.

Am I oversimplifying the process? I realize it would only cost $50 or $60 to have them installed by a pro, but I'd like the experience as long as I'm not biting off more than I can chew.

Any advice is appreciated.

Jason

Jason,

I installed my own on my 228, but the process was made much simpler with a Sig sight pusher. If you go to the Sigforum, there is a loaner network of folks that will loan you a sight pusher. Piece of cake with that and you don't take a chance of breaking something with your hammer.

I replaced them on my P6 with no fuss.Just used a wooden dowel I had laying around, and didn't use Loctite,or any kind of glue.I also did not file anything down, and wouldn't.

but Id be weary of those Trijicons. I broke the front Trijicon sight off my XD http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13877

Theres also reports of the radiation given off by their tritium will cause your babies to have two heads and tentacles
