I have been working a pair of shotguns for a while. I have never cared for a shotgun, although I do have a few for clays. I decided I need a good shotgun for good bedside manners:p

I started 2 different builds; one budget, one not.

  1. Budget build = Mossberg 500
  2. Rear ghost ring sight from a High point carbine
  3. Front sight from a Rem 700 bdl Heavily modified
  4. TacStar side saddle
  5. Homemade Sling
  6. Cut barrel to 18.5 inches
  7. Had to notch forearm to clear side saddle.
  8. Added some grip tape to help locate thumb. Helps prevent skin pinch by reminding me to keep my hand forward.

All in all, It does very well. I use Remington No4 buck in this one.

  1. Build 2 Remington 870 Wingmaster
  2. Trijicon front and rear sights
  3. Scattergun technologies magazine tube cap/sling mount. Extra power mag spring, & over sized safety
  4. High vis yellow follower
  5. Cut barrel to 19.5 inches
  6. TacStar saddle
  7. Krylon Camo systems black, oven baked on low for half hour. Then I did the fishnet stocking trick and went over it with Krylon camo olive.

I left the barrel a bit long because I will use rifled slugs in this one for the most part.

They both rest on a rack next to me bed.

Nice! Must be the day for scatterguns. I just asked my wife to ship my IAC M97 trench gun clone off to a gunsmith who specializes in 'slicking up' the 1897 Winchester and clones. He claims that when he is done the action can be worked with two fingers.

COOL! Post sum pic's when you get it back. Is it a chinese/Norinco clone or a domestic make? I heard some good things about the chinese clones froma few buddies who have them. Never shot one though.

Yours got the heat sheild and bayonet lug? Man, that 1917 bayonet looks fierce on the end of a 12g!

GOD, I wish they would make a Saiga that fired from a tube, instead of a magazine. I swear I'd pay another hundred or two for one that uses a tube magazine!!!!

The only thing that has kept me from owning one of those is the dificulty in doing a tactical reload. With capacity as limited as it is, and mags are heavy and expensive.....

Nice gun though, I shot one a while back, and it was truly a sweet mutha hunker!

IAC (another name for Norinco, I think). The only domestic maker was Winchester, from 1893 to about 1956.

Seems solid. Clunky, though (thus the trip to the smith). Has the heat shield and lug, and a couple three years ago I picked up a 1917 Remington bayonet from SOG for cheap - I should have bought a dozen, seeing what they go for now.

I like the wingmaster, above...
