I was finally able to pick up a Winchester 71. 聽Been on the hunt for one for quite awhile. 聽All the ones I wanted were in excellent shape and had the price tag to match. 聽I found this one in an auction out west. 聽It has seen a lot of use but that just gives it more character. 聽The rear sight has been removed and a Lyman peep sight installed. 聽I guess because of that nobody seemed interested and I picked it up pretty cheap. 聽Now I just have to give it a good cleaning and put a few rounds through it.

Yes, I would rather pay less for a good used firearm. Then a buttload more for one that hadn't been used. Something about a used firearm just makes it more appealing to me. Congrats on the buy!

NICE score 馃憤聽 聽Ten years ago I was working out west and hit a huge huge gun show/expo 聽and a gent had a handful of Win' 71's offered. 聽HOLY cow. . all were near $3000. 聽I'm a fan of the .348 after shooting my buddy's 71, 聽but I'm champaign tastes with a beer budget. 聽 My buddy , like myself, 聽cast our own 80% of the time. 聽He had a 250gr mold made and was popping them out at 聽2,250+ 聽fps using Varget. 聽That's outrageously impressive, matching 450 Bushmaster's impressive specs. 聽I'm a lever fan (Got five JM Marlins bought in the early 90's) . . .always wanted that 71 in a 348 to fill that mid-bore heavy hitter category.聽馃憡

If I recall, 聽that .348 case has a rim that is bigger than a 45-70 .. and THAT alone is huge. 聽Many guys here go; 聽"Meh, 聽only a 35 cal.". 聽Ha ! 聽 That case is frikken FAT, 聽with a wonderfully Loooooong neck: 聽Perfect for any size lead slug, 聽keeping any gas-check up from the shoulder, 聽allowing a super heavy slug, 聽'ala 30-30. 聽That's a match made in heaven. 聽Hmmmm, 聽.348. 聽Hmmm .. . .348. 聽Hmmmmm. 聽I have 2,000 lbs of lead. 聽Hmmm.
