I am trying to work out if the marlin (44mag) I’m looking at purchasing is a genuine marlin or a remlin which I don’t really want.

it has the jm stamp, however it is a little crooked…

Serial number is 9321xxxx

can anyone help me out at all?

You're looking to buy a 2007 authentic Marlin per the serial number you've posted. This serial number was stamped into the top of the tang yes ?  The JM isn't always stamped in any particular direction but almost always near where the barrel enters the receiver. Sounds like you're about to add an awesome caliber lever action to the collection 👍

HURRAY for you,  Calab7171,  👍 " It's aliiiive."     I've got 5 JM's, all from 20+  years ago (my wife had no idea I bought them as I distracted her by buying her a  new  little car she liked)  . .  .I've  seen about 60x or so JM's and they ALL have the "JM "  stamped as if the punch had a decided list to port. The 'M' is weak.    Hmmm,   I'd be suspicious of a perfect "JM" punching .  🤔
