IDPA Question About A Pistol Selection

Does anybody shoot IDPA here? I have my IPSC/USPSA Limited Pistol (Para Ordnance) and wanted to see if it would be allowed in IDPA?

Specs...

Caliber: .40

Extended Mag release button

Magwell

Fiber Sights

I know that this would not be allowed in some catagories, but is there a bracket that it would be allowed in?

I have a pistol (Steyr) that would be allowed, but the Para has a sweet trigger.

Thanks All,

WTS

Check the rule book on the IDPA site. They list mods that can be done. Anything else is out of bounds.

In general stuff you might do for a carry gun is OK. Stuff you do for a race gun is not.

I personally shoot the gun I carry, in this case a Smith 19 2 1/2 inch. I think it is gaming to do otherwise.

I'm a IDPA SO & MD....., so my ruling is "It all depends......" :D

The Extended Mag release button & Magwell would be allowed so long as they are not beyond the stated "increase in size" that is greater than the OEM part. AND it fits inside the "box."

Rule of thumb. If the mag release is of a paddle type its a No-Go. If the magwell is a full & flared type its a No-Go.

Bottomline - - - Ask yourself if its something you could carry conceal.

Myself answered the questions. I guess I will only shoot my Steyr. It goes with me wherever I go.

Thanks All,

on the mag well my P18-9 has a S & A mag well on it and it fits in the IDPA box better than a glock 34 with a mag well, so yes it can legal, but if it is a Dawson ice mag well then no it would not be. it would make the pistol to big. a ruler would quickly answer your question.

This Post for me has been a great tutorial. I'm pretty good with IPSC, but IDPA could benefit me more day to day. BUT, I do like the idea of doing a day of sending pounds of lead down range.

Thank you all so much.

MTS,

Most local clubs won't have a problem with anybody showing up for the first time to give IDPA a try regardless of their firearm.

Just don't show up with a Race Gun & Rig wearing a factory sponsorship shirt . That can be a big FTDR - "Failure To Do Right."
