Volunteer State's Sam Keen Takes ICORE Central States Regional Limited Title

LOS OSOS, Calif. — Sam Keen took the Limited division title and finished High Overall this past Sunday in Buchanan, Mich. at the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) Central States Regional Revolver Championship sponsored by Smith & Wesson.

The Ramer, Tenn. resident won four of the eight stages and came from behind after the fourth stage to take the lead and the win. His final time of 209.90 seconds not only outpaced his nearest competitor, Gary Cuttita of Standish, Mich., by 17.81 seconds, but led the entire field of 93 wheelgunners.

Earlier this year Keen finished second in the same division at the ICORE Southern Regional.

“Sam is having a great season and shot a very solid match in Michigan,†said Art Leach, spokesman for ICORE.

Finishing second was Cuttita who won two stages in the match and finished in third place overall with a time of 227.10 seconds. Third place went to Brent Roberts of Warsaw, Ind., who won one stage and finished fifth overall in 232.36 seconds.

Rounding out the top five were Phillip Proietti of Plainfield, Ill., who also won one stage, and Patrick Sweeney of Ann Arbor, Mich., finishing fourth and fifth in the division, and seventh and ninth overall, in times of 253.52 and 272.40 respectively.

The ICORE Central States Regional Revolver Championship was held at the Bend of the River Conservation Club, Sunday, July 18. The competition drew shooters from California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

The match was the fifth in a series of six regional events sponsored by Massachusetts-based firearms maker Smith & Wesson whose revolvers are widely used in competition. The final regional event is scheduled for Sunday, September 26 when the East Coast Revolver Regional will take place in Tripoli, Pa.
