Permit application experience

Recommended Posts

Just got my permit! :stare:

Thought I'd relay my experience.

- Took my class at Guns & Leather on 10-9. (Good job by instructor Mark Crabtree)

The range qualification was shot with 48 rounds, divided into 8 strings of 6 shots each:

- 6 shots @ 3 yards, stopping between each shot

- 6 shots @ 3 yds, no stopping necessary

- 6 @ 7 yds

- 6 @ 7 yds

- 6 @ 15 yds

- 6 @ 15 yds

- 6 @ 7 yds

- 6 @ 3 yds

- Application for original & duplicate permits applied on 10-12. Went to the DMV in Lavergne, which took me about 2 hours total (I got there with a glut of other people). The lady at the counter knew exactly what I wanted to do when I asked about applying for an original AND a duplicate at the same time. She had me fill out 2 separate applications, one for each.

- Fingerprinted at APPS on 10-13. Walked right in & took about 15 minutes.

- Permit mailed on 11-1.

Strangely enough, I only received one permit. I called the permit office & spoke with a very nice lady today. She looked it up & said that for some reason the duplicate had been approved but not printed, and that she would make sure it got out to me. ;)

Getting a duplicate permit to have on hand in case mine gets lost was a great idea, thanks! At only $5, it's a heckuva deal, too.
