I searched here and as well as I could thru the TN statutes and didnt find any law(s) governing private sales of firearms in TN. Did I miss them? I did find the 'bill of sale' pdf posted here which Im going to use. Does TN impose any other requirements?

You can sell a handgun or rifle face to face to any TN resident, otherwise it must go through an FFL. Other than that, there really aren't many laws regarding private transactions.

Private sales do not require an FFL, as long as you are not aware that the person buying the firearm from you is a minor, intoxicated, a felon, or otherwise ineligable to possess the firearm.

OK, thanx. I understood I didnt have to be an FFL or go thru one but in other places Ive lived there were record keeping requirements + the burden to 'know' the buyer. Thanx for the help and links.

ETA: Just to clarify my question was about selling a firearm to a TN resident.

The best thing to do is follow Federal law. You can find the pertinent answers here: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b1, at the ATF's Firearms FAQ page.

A quick synopsis:

In order to sell a gun to a resident of another State, you MUST go through an FFL. That means a resident of Alabama CAN NOT legally buy a firearm, be it a rifle, shotgun, or handgun, from a non-licensee in TN. Not even at the Nashville gun show. That AL resident can buy a long gun from an FFL here in TN, though. If you, a TN resident, want to sell a gun to an AL resident, you must arrange to transfer it through an FFL. If it's a handgun, you must ship it to an FFL in AL. If it were a long gun, you could do the transfer through a TN FFL, say at the gun show.

There is no requirement to go through an FFL to sell a gun to another resident of your State.
