PTR's are built with original HK G3 Tooling. There was a lot of press a few years back as the stamps and dyes arrived and their factory was getting set up.

Although I've never owned one, I've shot and handled several. The first one I came across was a day at the range with one of my HK91's several years ago. Side by side, it was hard for me to justify spending the additional $1,000 for an original hk91. All parts are completely interchange-able and the fit and finish of the examples I've handled are on par with the original HK91s. It would be a sin to classify the PTR in the same catagory as a clone: a'la Federal Ord, Hesse, Bobcat, etc. These pieces, IMHO, are a worthy continuation of a great rifle discontinued by the original manufacturer.

Just like the original HK91s, don't expect anything better than about 2 or 3 MOA (combat accuracy), as they were not designed for it. Don't waste your money trying to accurize one. The stresses developed by the 7.62 NATO round flex the receiver somewhat during firing and unless you weld stiffening rails onto the receiver (like the Psg1), you'll need to settle for a rifle that I consider a bit better than the FNFAL and a bit less than the M14...

All in all, a very good buy and an excellent rifle.

Hi - New to this forum - just moved back to TN from LA. I've owned a PTR-91K for a year now. It's a solid .308 battle rifle. I really like the K model with the fixed stock. Handy, powerful, and accurate. I run iron sights - KISS is the way to go with these I think, but they can be scoped. Feeds every thing from GI match to cheap russian ammo. Surp G-3 mags are super cheap and 100% reliable. I tried the choate side folder - it's ok, but I liked the fixed stock better. Only problem is the increasing price of 7.62/.308!
