20 Guage Opinions

Recommended Posts

I purchased a 20guage Remington 870 with Knoxx Stock for HD.

Why did I go with the 20 guage? I wanted my 12yr old daughter and wife to be able to handle it and I read stuff similar to this on the internet - I specifically recommend the 20 gauge for women and recoil-sensitive men who dislike the blast and recoil of the 12 gauge. "Delivering roughly the ballistic force of two .44 Magnum rounds at once," comments the knowledgeable Ayoob, the 20 "delivers 75% of the lead for only 50-60% of the recoil".

My daughter can handle it just fine and can get all 7 rounds down range in a hurry. The Knoxx Stock is pretty incredible.

Now my buddy in Virginia has been chastising me for this purchase. He said a Remington 1100 in 12 guage would not have kicked any harder and would have been a better HD gun.

What do you all think?

First, nice choice on the Knoxx stock. Very nice addition.

As far as the 20ga vs 12ga... to each their own. If it suits the purpose, and everyone in your family can easily shoot it, than awesome. :D

Personally, I would have opted for the 12ga. IMO, there really isn't a noticeable difference between the two in recoil. Plus, I like the heavier round. But that's just me.

Like I said... if the 20ga suits you and your family's purpose... stick with it. But if you haven't had the chance, check out a good 12ga and shoot it. You might be surprised with how little the recoil difference is.

Best of luck either way!

Im not recoil sensitive, but after a couple of boxes down range im recoil aware with my 12 gauge. Thus I like to shoot these allot http://ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/product_info.php?pName=100rds-12-gauge-aguila-minishell-7-12-bird-shot&cName=12-gauge-birdshot

I like telling people thats never used them,or maybe scared of my 12gauge(1st time shooters) that the recoil difference is like being hit in the shoulder with X loads compared to a baby fart from Aguila Mini's.Theres very little recoil making them perfect for target especially for young kids. And your target still gets obliterated :D
