My 870

Well I have been looking into turning my 870 that I have had for 14 years into a home defense / SHTF gun. And today I woke up and looked at it in the corner of the room and thought to myself hmmmm. black stain I bet would look good. So I did some google vodoo just to find a couple AK's with black wood stocks but most were painted. saw a lot of post about using ebony stain but no pics. So I closed the laptop and headed to lowes and got some 220 and 320 grit sandpaper. along with a 32 oz. can of ebony stain. When I got back I started to disassemble my old friend and sand her down.... 2.5 hours later I was done with the stock then started the fore grip which was another 1.5 hours. lol I was so happy to get that part out of the way. Then I started the stain which i have only put one coat on so far, so figured i would share the progress of the little project which will take a few more coats to get the color I want. and I figured hell if it looks bad in the end then I will just order the mesa stock kit sooner that I planned. lol

Oh yeah it is a 870 express magnum built in 97 I think. which pre 2000 870's had birch furniture from what I read somewhere else,

Looks good! Has a tiger stripe look to it almost.

I have had good luck using Rit Dye on the birch/beech stock of my 10/22. The ebony stain didn't adhere with the darkness I was looking for so I sanded it a bit and started coating it with the Rit. I'll have to take some pics, but it turned out nice and black.

Not bad, it looks nice. I think one coat is fine enough plus you got a little bit of tiger stripping too. Get a couple of coats of Tru-Oil on it and it should look fine.

I used minwaxs satin laquer
