Just received a Remington 740 in 30-06 my grandfather had and refinished. It has a vintage Weaver fixed-power scope. Beautiful rifle built in December of 1957. I was just wondering if any of you guys had experience hunting with them. I hear alot of mixed opinions on the rifle, so I was wondering what experience you guys might have with them and what level of accuracy I can expect.

Those were some handsome and quick handling rifles. Mostly reliable and decently accurate. I have had 742's in 06 but not a 740, not sure of the difference. I could usually get 2.5 to 3" 3 shot groups...it get hot and starts throwing them in the 4 plus range after that. Good gun for the woods where shots are going to be inside a 100 and quick.
