What to do with Type 53?

I just got a Mosin Nagant Type 53. It shoots great, has a good trigger, and the bore is in good shape. The problem is that the barrel is pitted and the stock is in poor condition. Trying to decide which way to go with it. Thinking about "going bubba" on it. I will have to replace the stock and since it is such a good shooter I want to scope it. Any suggestions on how to clean up and refinish the barrel will be appreciated. Not interested in cammo. Thinking about going all black. No offense to purists.
