  1. beautiful, thanks for sharing.
  2. I put a scout scope on my very nice laminated stock 91/30 but the stock sights can be put back on in just a few minutes.  My other thought is, if you want to D&T one for a scope , just do it unless you have an unusual model. There are many more out there that you can keep original. My plan at this time is shooting at Norris early Sunday. Will take my" new to me sniper" and try to sight the scope. Will also take another Mosin in the arsenal, prob. a m44
  3. Same thing happened to me. they did return my nasty gram saying a new order system did not forward all the C&R"s . Faxed another and got my Mosin sniper in a couple weeks.
  4. I ordered new springs from Wolff spring today. Have used their springs many times with good results. And they are reasonably priced. thanks much to peejman  and others for all the help. This forum is great.
  5. never heard of primer wipe but it sure seems to be the problem. Your photo on the right is exactly what my spent rounds look like. I had the FP out and the spring looks good (maybe weak?) and cleaned the FP cavity. Dropped the FP in and it seemed to be free to move without the spring. I will try either a stronger spring or maybe stretch the spring for faster return. Do you shoot at Gunny's ? I shoot there most every Sat. morning at 9. thanks for the info.
  6. I think I checked it very good for crud but will do so again when it comes apart for another look. Thanks for the tip.
  7. well it seems the loose fitting S&B ammo is not the  problem. Shot some surplus today with aprox. the same results. Not quite as much gouging but some none the less. Will take another look in a few days.
  8. I think I have found the problem. Took the barrel out and dropped one of the S&B rounds into the chamber. It has a very noticeable side to side movement with my finger. Tried it with a surplus round and no movement. Have some new starline brass and it also has no movement. The S&B case diameter is about 3.5 thou less than the others. I will fire the gun tomorrow with both the surplus and S&B for a side by side comparison.
  9. Hi guys, hope this photo shows up. Shooting S&B ammo in my polish T33 gives this result on the primer. Seems to hit in center and then gouges the edge. Never seen this before. Any ideas? <a href="http://s1075.beta.photobucket.com/user/smokndav/media/762brass004_zps64286a9d.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1075.photobucket.com/albums/w437/smokndav/762brass004_zps64286a9d.jpg" border="0" alt="7.62 brass photo 762brass004_zps64286a9d.jpg"/></a>
  10. I agree with the hardened cosmo problem. Found that on a couple of mine and used a chamber cleaning brush for an AR to clean it out.
  11. I go as often as I can but its a long drive for me. About 35 miles. I also go to gunny's indoor range in Maryville quite a bit.
  12. have used my C&R much more than I thought I would, and my bank account shows it. Just ordered a sniper Mosin from Classic
  13. more trigger work and down to 4lb. low as I want to go. Lots of creep but easy to feel the point where its ready to fire.
  14.   Me to, I like the Romanian the best, except for the CZ52 with all the Harrington products upgrades. Sweeet
  15. Hi Glen, David R here. The guy next to you shooting the bench rest gun and the M44 at Norris. Thanks for letting me shoot the sniper. Just ordered one from classic and hope its as nice as yours. Also just finished modifying a 91/30 in laminated stock. installed a Timney trigger,(lots of wood removal) scout scope and did some barrel floating work and bolt work. very crisp 3.5 lb. trigger pull and the sniper bolt is silky smooth. Waiting on a decent day for Norris.
  16. I know someone near Knoxville if you live in this area.
  17. Just got some 7.62x54r from Sportsman guide. Its billed as 200 gr. match grade, brass case, berdan (corrosive) primed. Comes 240 rds in a spam can. Have not shot any but I am impressed with how it looks and there is NO steel . Just ordered my 2nd can.
  18. You are right about the lever being on the right side. Been wanting a Hi-Standard for a long time but not willing to give the $$ for the target versions I see at the gun shows,Gun Broker, etc. I was very surprised to find this one priced a couple hundred below book value so jumped on it.
  19. just got one of the M44s from Widner's, excellent condition.
  20. Do not see anything about type ll on the gun or in info I have read. I have discovered that its pretty tricky to take down for cleaning :2cents:  Maybe it will get easier with time. :usa: Thanks to all for the kind words
  21. just picked this up at Gunny's in Maryville for a very fair price. made between 1938 and 1942 and less than 3000 made. Pretty rare I guess. Shoots great with the standard velocity ammo and pretty accurate even with the shorter barrel.
  22. Just got my Izhevsk M44 from Widners. Extremely nice condition and like GKar said, looks like its never been shot. Also not packed with cosmaline, just oiled up pretty good. Did some basic trigger work today and have the pull down to 6lb from a little over 7.
  23. Just ordered one today. Hope its a nice one. I have one I bought about 5 years ago and it was counterbored but in nice shape. Shoots straighter than most of my 91/30s so hope this one is at least as good. I also have one of the Chinese models. Rough wood but shoots good.
  24. be sure you understand the C&R does NOT allow you to be a dealer, just a collector.
  25. not sure about your problem but I have one. If you are ever in the Knox/Seymour area we could have a look and compare the two.
