I would change it up just a little: carry the largest caliber you WILL carry.
  2. Don't get rid of your Taurus if you like it. I know 3 friends that have them. All use them hard, one doesn't clean anything and no problems. He has shot about 900 rds; 600 over 4 days and it's still ticking. They make good guns. They're just not 'designer' brand.
  3. Win AA and Rem STS/Nitro are brass base-non magnetic. BUT the primers are steel and hence 'near the primer' would be an affirmative.
  4. Rio has been manufacturing shot shells in bucksnort for some time now..over a year for sure. They are widely used in sporting clays.......generally a quality shell. As mentioned, the metal base on most shells are steel. Winchester AA and Rem. Premier and Nitros are brass. It is more likely you have a 'sticky' chamber. Be sure and clean the chamber well with a chamber brush. Sometimes polishing with a brass brush wrapped with 00 steel wool is helpful. Just use a varible speed drill and short cleaning rod with the brush attached.

I think that if anyone reloading follows basic common-sense guidelines, there would be no problems at any stage of pregnancy or raising children. I've reloaded shotgun shells for over 50 years at all stages.......I think me and the kids are mostly normal. I even have had the kids help. Everyone washes their hands afterwards, no eating, drinking etc. while reloading. There is always a small amount of powder and lead pellets around, but unless ingested it's not a problem. Toddlers can be kept out of the room, or be more meticulous in clean-up. Use basic storage precautions with gunpowder.

  7. Hey, I did to, but I thought what the heck. In fact on my critique I told 'em there was a lot of hype....but it was all true! They do include a gun with the $2000 price tag, but if you sign up the the e-mails there are better offers sans gun. Like 'tenn' said, I think multiple classes are a plus, but I'd make Front Sight one of them.
  8. one can see numerous video and read accounts of multiple shots being fired and nothing being hit. These are real life encounters with professional lawmen as well as private citizens. There is a big difference in training for defensive purpose vs. target shooting. I would encourage specified defensive training if that is your goal and purpose. Like you, I have shot for years, but until I finished a 4 day course at Front Sight, I just thought I knew what I was doing. It is money well spent. Additionally, dry practice is mandatory (and cheaper) in developing and elevating your response. I'm sure there are several other courses available, but you will need to continue your 'perfect practice' with purpose in mind.
  9. No bite whatsoever. It has a decent beaver tail. Actually can't think of anything that I would change.
  10. Just a feature some may benefit from. You find the same thing in some shotguns, like the benelli, where the drop can be adjusted with different inserts. I think the biggest benefit is to those with smaller hands, as mentioned. I know my wife can more comfortably reach the mag release on the XD without having to shift her grip. Helpful when playing speed games. Can't really see any negatives of having the feature.
  11. yep, laser helps with distant vision, tends to make the front site MORE blurry. More of a problem for the 45 and over crowd. Bifocals, are the only good answer.
  12. We spend all sorts of money on guns, ammo and accessories, what's a few bucks for proper lubrication? EEzox was designed for firearms, and is absolutely the best rust prevention; just do a search to confirm. There is no doubt that about any product will work if one cleans after any range work, but I use the EEZOX for all aspects of cleaning and have quit all other products.
  13. I've shot the 200gr. Lawman without any problems. Seems fine and I thought may group a little tighter than the 230 Blazer Brass, but then again, that may just be me.
  14. I'm going to let that slide...'nuff said
  15. Randy and Jonnin...understand how aggravating email can be. I also understand how fortunate we are to live in the USA, and Front Sight and the NRA are some of the strongest supporters we have in fighting those that want to dismantle the 2nd Admen. Yes, at times they may be a little 'radical', but one has to fight fire with fire. You are free to chose to attend or not attend any training you want. But don't let the business of advertising, especially for something as crucial as gun ownership keep you from something that is enjoyable as well as beneficial.
  16. Robert, I think, for the most part, most established training facilities are good to excellent. I certainly would not criticize any of them unless I had first hand info. Unfortunately many people do just that. I would love to hear about others first hand experince, and if you do get the chance to go to Front Sight you won't be disappointed.
  17. That's good.....I believe I will borrow that from you and call it LDD for short:koolaid:
  18. My wife and I plus another couple just completed the 4 Day Defensive Handgun Training at Front Sight. Let me start by saying I have been shooting for most of my 57 yrs.....a lot. Whether a beginner or an experienced shooter, this course is the real deal and is everything and more as advertised. I plan to attend at least twice a year from here on out. Plus have already insured my grandkids will go around age 12 or 13. Definitely the best place to start a new pistol shooter. This is a quality school with great instructors. Very detailed, intense and most of all benificial. More importantly, a strong supporter of the 2nd Admendment and the shooting sports. From my viewpoint, I see nothing to criticize and much to support of this company and what it represents. There were over 300 people enrolled in this course alone during these 4 days, broken down in groups of 40, with each group having minimum 3 Range Officers at any one time, and up to 5 at certain periods. If you get a chance, GO!
  19. Just finished shooting a 4 Day course @ Front Sight with my Remington R1. This gun had already had around 2,000 rounds through it without any trouble. The recent 4 day firing of about 600 rounds was done without any failures of any kind, and no cleaning. In my book it is a fine weapon for those looking for a dependable 1911 at a reasonable price. For that matter, my buddy who went with me shot his Taurus 1911 with the same results.

So spoolie, assumming the above is correct, did your parts break? Or, was it just your preference to change them out as you modified your pistol? Again, if the later is true, why are you in a better position to condemn someone for buying a R1?

go to the CZ forums........they are all good, but some are a little better than others, but for the most part, great guns

A little research will show that most guns have MIM parts, regardless of price. I have read Kimber does. As mentioned, it is an acceptable, and some cases superior manufacturing process. At my last check, every manufacturer has a customer service/repair department; meaning every gun breaks. Opinions are a dime a dozen, fair evaluations and personal experience provide much more reliable information. Remington R1 Review Part II-----Detail Strip

    Remington 1911 R1

Feburary 2011 AMERICAN RIFLEMAN has an article on the R1 by field editor Riley Clapp. Just a couple of quotes from that article, "It is a strong, sound M1911 pistol that was made to be used---and used hard......The receiver is an investment casting, and most of the small parts are either metal injection molded (MIM) or investment cast......seldom does a gun come along that shoots this well.....it strikes me as a very good buy." Are there guns better? Sure, but until mine buggers up, or there are a bunch of reports showing breakage, it looks like a deal right now. My guess is the price will start climbing as demand increases. Better buy it while you can.
