  2. I like the OWB Fobus holster, however reading posts on another gun forum about fours years ago, the issue came-up regarding the ease of breaking the Fobus OWB holster during a gun grab. Meaning, that if someone forcefully pulled on either the holster or the gun within the holster during a gun grab, the Fobus holster snaps apart. Someone had posted pictures of the plastic breaking around the rivets. Even some gun instructors joined the thread to say that they would not trust Fobus OWB due to the ease of breaking the holster. I tried OWB from BladeTech and Comp-tac. The Comp-tac OWB holster did a better job staying on your hip and secure to your pants. Also Comp-tac maintained a better cant than the BladeTech. YMMV
  3. It is always good to review the gun safety rules from time-to-time. http://www.nracentral.com/gun_safety_rules.php http://www.benelliusa.com/shotgun-safety/
  4. I think my preferred option would be to still carry the firearm on my person or in some of the external holsters/packs shown in this thread verses carry the gun to a holster/pack attached to the bike. If you are held-up at gun point, you can get off the bike and say to the assailant, here take the bike (roll/throw the bike towards the assailant). This will cause the assailant to stop pointing their gun at you while you deploy your firearm to begin shooting. Also this provides you with mobility with your firearm to safe cover from assailant or get away.

    .40S&W vs .45ACP

And the .45 GAP was developed to create a .45 hole using the gun frame size of the 9mm or .40 caliber guns. Interesting read: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/petej/45gap.defend.htm Main Page http://mywebpages.comcast.net/petej/ Go to an indoor gun range and rent the Glock 30 (.45) and then rent the Glock 27 (.40). Shoot about 50 rounds per gun on the same day and I think you will discover the answer regarding recoil. The .40 snaps upward and the .45 will be more of a push.
  7. I do not believe amendment SA0830 is enforceable given that the public will not know for a given establishment where they are making the most profits. The public will certainly not know that 50% or more profits are coming from the sale of food. Need an example? Try Cookeville TN. Most of the mainstream restaurants would not open a location in Cookeville due to they were a dry county. Guess where the restaurants make most of their money? From the sale of onsite alcohol consumption. Once Cookeville finally dropped the being a dry county or at least sell by the drink, the mainstream restaurants began opening in Cookeville. Amendment SA0830 is trying to prevent people with Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) from carrying into bar establishments. It seems that the legislatures believe that anyone who is going into a bar that has their HCP, is looking for trouble and/or be involved in a shooting even if they stay sober.
  8. Good catch Creeky. I Google searched "Front Sight" and discovered the two links and I did not realize that the a website called the Gun Guys was anti-gun. Opps. Mugster, I thought the same thing when I saw the title.

  10. First, I believe you need to choose the correct firearm for conceal carry. The handgun should have an internal firing pin block safety to prevent AD. Consider Glock or handguns that are DA/SA. Second, choose the correct holster for conceal carry. This will require some trial-and-error. Any holsters that I choose (open or conceal) will completely cover the trigger area. I do not want to have an AD due to something or someone being able to pull on the trigger. Third, carry condition zero. Regrettably, I saw a perfect example of why you should have the firearm in condition zero when watching TV. The show was hidden security camera of a jewelry store owner in Florida. The store owner had been robbed before and the store owner decided to get a conceal carry holster and firearm. The store was empty when the man entered the store. The store owner became suspicious and when the bad guy turned his back to the store owner, then the BG reached into the front of his pants to pull his gun, the store owner got the drop on the BG having already pulled his firearm from the rear holster. Unfortunately in the video, you can see the store owner point the firearm at the BG and then struggling. Sort of like dry firing the gun. The BG had turned around and saw the store owner had the drop on him but the store owner was not firing. The BG shot the store owner few to several times (I cannot remember exactly). As the store owner lay on the floor, the BG put his gun up to the store owners head to shoot him dead and the BG gun went click. The BG was out of bullets. So the BG stole the Rolex watch off the store owner’s wrist and left the store. A person walking past the store heard the shots and reported it to police. The store owner nearly died from his gunshot wounds. After the store owner recovered from his ordeal, it was discovered why his firearm was not shooting and why he was having problems. In the heat of the moment, the store owner forgot to disengage the gun’s safety. Of course, there are other scenarios that would benefit from having your firearm in condition zero in order to get ahead of the reaction curve. When SHTF, your shooting capability will reduce to your level of training. In other words, if you are used to shooting at the gun range with the safety off, then when SHTF, you have conditioned yourself to not disengage the safety. Regards threeshot
  11. Indoor and outdoor ranges still expose you to lead. See the following links that provide useful information on lead exposure and prevention. http://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/Agencies/police/trainingsection/range/lead_poisoning.html http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=elwdterminal&L=5&L0=Home&L1=Workers+and+Unions&L2=Licensing+and+Certification&L3=Lead+Program&L4=Lead+Documents&sid=Elwd&b=terminalcontent&f=dos_leaddocs_lead_firing&csid=Elwd Page 19 from the document "Best Management Practices for Lead at Outdoor Shooting Ranges" http://www.epa.gov/region02/waste/leadshot/epa_bmp.pdf My goal with this topic is allow people to make better decisions about preventing their lead levels from rising due to the inherent risk of gun smoke, cleaning and reloading. Also to prevent other family members from being exposed to the lead from your sport/hobby. Regards threeshot
