  1. For a new handgun, I first want to break it in with 500 - 600 rounds using the carry ammo. Generally, I shoot about 200 – 300 rounds per range session. Clean the gun after each range session then return to the range on another day to put another 200 – 300 rounds through the handgun. Then put another 500 rounds over the next 2 or three range sessions using the carry ammo. Anytime you go to the range to practice shooting or just to have fun shooting, use your carry ammo. I know this is more expensive. However if any problems start occurring, it is better to discover the problem during a range session than in SHTF moment.
  2. More reality TV garbage where people are told to overreact for the sake of TV ratings. Must be on the Fox channel.

  4. Actually, the FBI was testing the 9mm and .45 calibers as well as the questions surrounding hollow point effectiveness and reliability.
  5. The greatest challenage I have encountered when trying to research what is the most effective handgun caliber or bullet of a given caliber is to find credible research verses internet opinions or informal testing. Another example regarding the eternal debate of faster bullets using hollow points (9mm) vs slower but larger diameter hollow points (.45) is from 1989, the FBI's Handgun Wounding Factors and Effectiveness http://www.firearmstactical.com/hwfe.htm Part of this report came from the analysis of Wound Ballistic Workshop: "9mm vs. .45 Auto" from the FBI in 1987. nsnate02, Do not take the above examples as an attack on you or your research. We both know that this topic enters into the realm of politics and religion debates. I am willing to accept new empirical results to use a different grain of bullet for a given caliber. Can you post links to the newer credible research that recommends something else other than 147gr for JHP in 9mm or other calibers?
  6. http://www.firearmstactical.com/afte.htm This is a review of various author's books and the conflicting statements vs the data presented in their books. The impression this article and other articles that I have read is the 147gr JHP is the best choice for 9mm. Edited to add the following: I had shorten the title of my post in order to fit limited number of characters allowed in the title. The full title is Book Review: Handgun Stopping Power: The Definitive Study Also, that 147gr is recommended in 9mm when using JHP.
  7. Any update from Glock regarding the cause of the three round bursts?
  8. http://www.wmctv.com/global/story.asp?s=9837368 Gun owners outraged about Commercial Appeal list Updated: Feb 12, 2009 05:26 PM CST By Ben Watson - bio | email MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Some Mid-South gun owners our outraged over a website that lists handgun carry permits, claiming the site gives away too much personal information. Tom Givens, who runs the Range Master pistol range, said the database, published by the Commercial Appeal, has many of his clients upset. "First, its an invasion of privacy," Givens said. Using the database, a visitor to the website can look up the name of anyone who has a permit to carry a hand gun in the state of Tennessee. Information listed includes the owner's year of birth, along with his or her city, state, and zip code of residence. Givens said his phone has been ringing off the hook from clients upset about their personal information being so accessible. "By publishing this database your employers, your co-workers, church members, even relatives that may not know you have a permit, now know that you've got one," he said. The Commercial Appeal purchased the permit information from the Tennessee's Department of Safety. Thursday, a department spokesman said his office has been flooded with angry calls and e-mails from permit owners. In response to that criticism, the Department of Safety issued a statement that said the information is a matter of "public record" and Commercial Appeal is not breaking any laws by releasing the information. However, the department spokesman added, he feels it's questionable for the Commercial Appeal to make the gun permit information available in the way the newspaper has. A spokesperson for the Commercial Appeal has not yet commented for this story.
  9. I have not had the need to visit any gunshop except for those that have an indoor range.
  10. I could understand the change if FGS was under new management or staff. However FGS has the same personnel working at the shop today as in 2004. I guess over time, they have changed their attitudes towards their customers for the worse.
  11. It seems to me that gun industry has many businesses and manufactures that fail to understand the rudimentary business concept that they are in business because of their customers, not in spite of their customers. Another issue I have noticed with many gun shops, sites or manufactures is if you are going to put your business on the internet, then you need to be staffed appropriately to handle the internet orders and responding to both emails and phone calls. I have experienced and read on many other gun forums people complaining that their emails and/or phone calls were never answered or were answered weeks/months later which included the gun manufactures. I am disappointed on the recent postings regarding Franklin Gun Shop. I had a pleasant experience at FGS the last time I was in their shop back in 2004. Jerry Hassler is very sales oriented to the point it makes me want to leave the store. I liked Mike Hassler who seemed very knowledgeable and very low pressure sales. Mike would answer my questions and then back-off to allow you to make the sale. Mike was the complete opposite of Jerry who was like a desperate car salesman trying to make a rusting old car seem like a brand new car. FGS will deal on price if you talk to them about prices you have seen elsewhere or in my case; I just said what can we do to lower the price? The answer I got was to pay in cash and they would reduce the price to X. YMMV
  12. Improper assembly is a possibility. I am trying to ascertain if the gun was completely dissembled or if a part failure may have occurred. The most prudent advice is from John Wall. Take the gun to a certified Glock Armorer to determine the reason for the three round firings.
  13. First question is how far did you disassemble your Glock? Like this? http://glockmeister.com/fields.shtml Or did you proceed to disassemble beyond the field stripping? With the gun unloaded and using an empty magazine, does the trigger reset forward when you pull the slide back and allow it to slam shut?
  14. See if i-Shot has what you need in a range bag(s). http://www.ishot-inc.com/
  15. No offense to the gun shop owners, however I cannot see any positives to a reality TV show for the gun shop nor the gun owners. You can assume that these reality shows will edit and/or create controversial and contentious situations which will not present the gun shop, the staff nor the gun owners in a positive portrayal. Some ideas the writers of the show might come-up with (yes, reality shows have writers; so how can it be a reality show): Show the gun owner/store owner that almost shot someone in the store while looking at a new gun. You know, the new gun was loaded somehow. Show the incompetent “the joker†gun shop assistant doing something stupid with a gun. Maybe showing the customer how to load the gun with live ammo and then almost discharge the firearm. Better yet, have them blast a hole in the wall. For effect for those watching the show. Show a customer testing if ammo will fire by trying to hit the primer with their car keys. Are you getting the picture yet? In my view, these reality TV shows will only provide more fuel to the anti-gun advocates.
  16. So what cartridge do the Canadians prefer to use for big game?
  17. Watch the video at the link below. http://www.wsmv.com/news/18343589/detail.html Driver Accused Of Pointing Gun At Shopper Suspect Arrested, Faces Aggravated Assault Charges Reported By Nancy Amons POSTED: 8:32 am CST December 23, 2008 UPDATED: 8:47 am CST December 23, 2008 FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Police said a Williamson County man is facing charges after he allegedly pulled a gun Saturday on a woman over a parking spot. Sanijdra Glass found herself staring at a 9 mm handgun during the day at the Cool Springs Mall in Franklin. Glass said she had just pulled into a spot in the Dillard's parking lot around 2 p.m. when she said a man in the passengers' seat of a van started cursing at her. "The next thing you know, he pulled out a gun and he cocked it at the window, and he was shaking it at me," said Glass. Franklin police were close by and arrested the suspect, Joseph Sepulveda, 29, of Fairview. "He actually chambered a round in the gun and brandished it, pointed it at her, or in her direction," said Sgt. Charles Warner of the Franklin Police Department. Glass said Sepulveda also had a woman and a child in the vehicle with him. She said she was so frightened by the incident that she never finished her holiday shopping. "The guy was just waving the gun at me over a parking spot. (I thought,) 'You can have it, I'll move if it's that serious,'" said Glass. Sepulveda is being charged with aggravated assault. He is out of jail on bond.
  18. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20081222/COUNTY09/81222049/1164 Man pulls out gun in mall parking lot By Mitchell Kline • THE TENNESSEAN • December 22, 2008 FRANKLIN — A Fairview man has been accused of pulling out a gun during an argument over a parking spot at the CoolSprings Galleria. Police said a woman called 911 at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday and told dispatchers a man had pointed a gun at her. Police arrived at the mall and found Joseph Sepulveda, 29, sitting in a vehicle with a loaded handgun in a holster on his hip. Sepulveda was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Sepulveda has a permit to carry a handgun in Tennessee, according to police. He was released from the Williamson County jail after posting $2,500 bond. “We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate the importance of being courteous over small things like parking spaces and right of way,†said Sgt. Charles Warner. “This incident could have ended tragically and changed peoples’ lives forever, over a parking space.†The Franklin Police Department has extra officers on duty this holiday shopping season to help with traffic congestion, and to be on the lookout for aggressive drivers. “Road rage is a serious crime with potentially serious consequences, and offenders will be arrested,†said Deputy Chief David Rahinksy.
  19. DJBiker, I am just waiting for the story in the news that some dip:poop: were shot while trying to imitate curving the bullet as shown in the movie Wanted.
  20. I do not think we should blame the technical advisors since the director will have the actor/actress perform (insert whatever bad gun handling here) for dramatic effect. And as pointed out in another post, the sound effects are added after the filming.
  21. This should provide the police with finger prints that are on the gas can. From the description, it appears that he was siphoning gas. 1) Remove any brushes or trees that would provide cover (day or night). 2) Consider installing motion detection flood lights. 3) Remove all items from your cars like: ipods, cell phone, CDs that are visible, GPS devices (not including factory installed). In other words, the interior should look clean with no items showing. Even car charger cords are a give away that something may be in the car. 4) If possible, part all vehicles in your garage.
  22. I think it will boil down to convenience verses having to drive to On-Target, Joelton or Guns & Leather range and the amount of range time you need for a session. That being said, I do not plan to shoot at Uselton's. Even people I know that are gun enthusiasts are unaware of Uselton's shenanigans. Regarding the Franklin Gun Shop, granted that if you are a bargin hunter you can find cheaper prices at other locations. I do like the FGS selection and working with Mike Hassler who is very knowledgable and very low pressure sales. However, Jerry Hassler is very sales oriented. FGS will deal on price if you talk to them about prices you have seen elsewhere or in my case, I just said what can we do to lower the price? The answer I got was to pay in cash and they would reduce the price to X. Sold! Regading OHGC, I hope they can find another location within short driving distance. That goal is going to get harder-and-harder to find outdoor ranges with the increase subdivision building in Williamson county. Maybe look for property next to a busy and industrial area (no subdivisions) like Tennessee Target Clay Complex.
  23. As Paul Harvey would say, "...and now you know the rest of the story" http://www.isra.org/ <TABLE style="BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" borderColor=#ffffff cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD width="100%">Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson Issues Open Letter to Nation's Sportsmen Regarding Obama's History in the Illinois Senate </TD></TR><TR><TD width="100%">CHICAGO, Oct 15, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The following is the text of an open letter to the nation's hunters and sportsmen issued today by Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson: Fellow Sportsman, Hello, my name is Rich Pearson and I have been active in the firearm rights movement for over 40 years. For the past 15 years, I have served in the Illinois state capitol as the chief lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle Association. I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I know Obama's attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than does Barack Obama. Although Obama claims to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment, his voting record in the Illinois Senate paints a very different picture. While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners to forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer. Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month. Without a doubt, Barack Obama has proven himself to be an enemy of the law abiding firearm owner. At the same time, Obama has proven himself to be a friend to the hardened criminal. While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family. Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner? And speaking of friends, you can always tell a person by the company they keep. Obama counts among his friends the Rev. Michael Pfleger - a renegade Chicago priest who has openly called for the murder of gun shop owners and pro-gun legislators. Then there is his buddy Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago who has declared that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. And let's not forget Obama's pal George Soros - the guy who has pumped millions of dollars into the UN's international effort to disarm law-abiding citizens. Obama has shown that he is more than willing to use other people's money to fund his campaign to take your guns away from you. While a board member of the leftist Joyce Foundation, Barack Obama wrote checks for tens of millions of dollars to extremist gun control organizations such as the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Violence Policy Center. Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner? By now, I'm sure that many of you have received mailings from an organization called "American Hunters and Shooters Association(AHSA)" talking about what a swell fellow Obama is and how he honors the 2nd Amendment and how you will never have to worry about Obama coming to take your guns. Let me make it perfectly clear - everything the AHSA says about Obama is pure hogwash. The AHSA is headed by a group of left-wing elitists who subscribe to the British view of hunting and shooting. That is, a state of affairs where hunting and shooting are reserved for the wealthy upper-crust who can afford guided hunts on exclusive private reserves. The AHSA is not your friend, never will be. In closing, I'd like to remind you that I'm a guy who has actually gone nose to nose with Obama on gun rights issues. The Obama I know cannot even begin to identify with this nation's outdoor traditions. The Obama I know sees you, the law abiding gun owner, as nothing but a low-class lummox who is easily swayed by the flash of a smile and a ration of rosy rhetoric. The Obama I know is a stony-faced liar who has honed his skill at getting what he wants - so long as people are willing to give it to him. That's the Barack Obama I know. The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. Founded in 1903, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
