  1. I generally like to stay with the same method of carry, and manual of arms. I do switch up occasionally, but only if the situation calls for it. I try to stay with the "hybrid" kydex and leather holsters (Comp-Tac and Crossbreed) for my normal carry, and generally carried at the 3:30 to 4 o'clock position. Must be. I have a Carrylok for my HKs and one for the 1911. The 1911 is awesome, but the HK version is really hard to conceal. It is 1/2" thicker than the gun.
  2. Keinengel gave you the best advice. I believe that the conversion is possible, but wouldn't have a clue as to the specific parts required. I imagine that a 96 will be a little more difficult to convert than a 92. I have had a 96FS since they first hit the shelves (low 200s serial number), and made considerable modifications when I was shooting competitions. The were always some odd parts that were hard to find.
  3. I have a buddy in the P'burg area that is my proxy.
  4. I really like the Comp-Tac Minotaur MTACs or the Crossbreed SuperTucks. The Comp-Tacs are a little more comfortable for me, and easier to put on and take off. Crossbreed horsehides are a little more comfortable if worn directly against the skin. They also seem to have a little looser molding in the Kydex. You are probably looking at a custom build for the Sig, but I could be wrong. There is a forum member out of Oak Ridge that makes similar holsters, you might want to track him down.
  5. Or get it back to the rightful owner if it was stolen.
  6. There is also one in Cool Springs, across the street from the mall.
  7. I am not in the market right now, so I haven't paid much attention to prices lately (unless it just really jumped out). I think D&T had a decent deal on green tips a week or so ago. Might check Reloader's Bench in Mt Juliet. I have heard others talk about some of the deals they have gotten there. Don't plan on being able to see whats in the gun case though. The couple times I have been in there, they had two or three lurkers just standing around blocking the case (sounded like they were friends of one of the employees).
  8. I remember hearing something similar a few years ago, but doubt that is still the case. I believe that you now have to meet the POST requirement to gain status.
  9. I think the Ruger will be a pretty safe bet. There may be a few bugs to work out, but I wouldn't expect any major problems. Ruger owns a company call Pine Tree Castings, which has made 1911 components for years. I believe that Caspian, Wilson, and many others utilize investment cast parts created by Pine Tree. I am a little surprised that it took Ruger so long to market a 1911 variant of their own.
  10. If bought a Springer RO a few months ago, and it is awesome. It is hard to find a comparable 1911 for less than $1,500. It isn't a carry gun, but does what it was designed to do very well. My only complaint is the LPA rear sight cut. I prefer some type of 3-dot configuration, and the options are pretty limited. The standard sights are excellent, but I am just more comfortable with 3-dots. I really think Ruger is headed iin the right direction. An all American made 1911, in the Series 70 tradition. If they come out with a blued version, I will have to buy one.
  11. That is good stuff. Have you eaten at Charlie's in Oak Grove?
  12. Maybe a little more relevant to this forum is the Nikon SpotOn app. Pretty cool ballistics calc, and you can order turrets tailored to the performance of you round and rifle
  13. I live in Nashville proper, and we rarely have an electric bill over $160 for our 1,000 sq ft home, and it was built in 1932 (very inadequate insulation). We average about $110 a month for electrical and $40 a month for gas. During the worst of summer or winter, we budget $350 for both, and have never gone over.
  14. Good looking build, and I will second the heroin addiction comparison. I just finished my first ground up build (and my first AR). It was a lot of fun, and a great learning experience. I would look into getting a fold-down rear sight. Nothing more comfortable than co-witnessed irons.
  15. And please don't mis-read my post above. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I was trying to be funny, but it may not have come off that way.
  16. While I generally respect others opinions, this is not correct. I suspect the error is lack of exposure to the finer cuisine of nash-vegas. Even accounting for personal preference, they are down on the list. In my experience, the top five burgers in Nashville are - Rotier's Bobby's Dairy McCabe's Blue Cheese Burger Brown's Elliston Place Soda Shop At best, Fat Mo's has the best drive through burger (but I would pick Backyard Burgers). Fat Mo's secret is just seasoning salt. Try it on your grill at home, and the taste is easy to recreate. I do miss Fudruckers. Never had the best burger, but they did provide a great burger experience.
  17. Please do, and let me know if you have a bad experience.
  18. Welcome. I have lived in the Nashville area nearly all my life. This year may have been the worst winter in 30 years, and there were only about 3 or 4 days you wouldn't want to drive (mostly because of the other people on the road). Generally, we get 3 or 4 weeks of harsh cold winter (days below freezing), 3 or 4 weeks of intense summer heat (days above 95), and the rest of the year falls in between. It can get really hot, and really cold, but it doesn't generally stick around long. Humidity can be brutal at times. Allergies can also be a huge concern. I have been a lot of places, but have yet to find anywhere I would rather be. Costa Rica and Ireland come the closest, but just can't measure up.
  19. I highly recommend that you contact the Tennessee Department of Safety. They can provide you the "official" rules. There are some attorneys on the forum as well who may be able to better interpret the nuance of carry with an out of state permit/license. I have investigated carrying in Georgia, but not the opposite. I don't think there are, but there could be nuances with the reciprocity agreement between Georgia and Tennessee. Tennessee is a one-party recording state, and follows the minimal federal guidelines. As noted above, you may be running the risk of ruffling feathers if discovered. Most jurisdictions use car cams, and their recording should be discoverable if you have an issue. Attorneys, please correct me if I am wrong.
  20. Brown's is good, but I like Rotier's better. I haven't had it in a couple years, but it is hard to beat Brown's chili. G&L is great. Jeff is about the only gunsmith around that I will let work on my stuff. Franklin Gun Shop has about the best selection around. They are high on a lot of things, but will usually work with you. Uselton's is supposed to have a really nice range, but I haven't been personally. I don't know your interests, but if you are history buff there is a lot to do around Franklin. Just visit the city's website - City of Franklin : Visitors
  21. All good suggestions so far. Might also want to check out Cajun Steamer and Bosco's.
  22. I was being sarcastic. I guess my lighthearted intent was not conveyed in my posts. There are a ton of estimates for production and loaded costs floating around for years, ranging from $60 to $75 per unit (I used a middle of the road number in my post). Below is a quote from a Forbe's article in 2003 - "These days Glock GmbH has an estimated $100 million in sales, two-thirds of it from the trigger-happy United States. A gun that retails for $500 can be manufactured for $75, and the company has a pretax margin nearing 60%." I probably got a little too pointed in my comments last night. While I am not a Glock fan, I begrudge no one who is. I have owned a couple, and just didn't like them. But I will say that they do the one thing you need a handgun to do (go bang when you pull the trigger) without fail.
  23. Haven't you heard, Glocks have a Safe Action. Can't shoot yourself with that, can you?
  24. Considering it only costs Glock about $67 to produce one, it is a rip-off. Not a Glock fan, and proud of it. On a more serious note, is this a deal with someone you know? My concern would be that it is stolen or abused (yes Virginia, you can abuse a Glock). That is probably trade in value for a Gen2 or a well used Gen3 19, so it wouldn't be a bad deal.
