Makiaveli, No permit required to purchase and listen to ham radio. As far as the permit you got in the 80's, I have no idea. I would imagine it has expired. I would encourage you to get an amateur radio license. It is really not that difficult, and if you buy a ham radio you might as well be able to use it.

I talked to Joe Lowenthal of Delta Club at the Olive Branch ARC meeting last tuesday and he was telling me about a Basic Electronics Class that they are going to be giving soon. This class is supposed to be very helpful in preparing for Amateur Extra. I believe it is going to be held once a week on Saturdays. I had to decline due to my crazy work schedule on the Railroad but if you are interested send Joe an email: wa4ovo@yahoo.com 73 KK4CWV

I now have in my possession a CSCE for General Class! I just got into Amateur Radio last month. Took my Tech. Exam just before Field Day. Not knowing anything at all about Ham radio I never even thought about studying for General and taking it at the same time I tested for Tech.

Glad to here G&A is doing better with their customer relations.

UPS delivered my Yaesu FT 2900R today. I couldn't stand looking at it just sitting there in the box so I got out in this terrible heat and installed it in my truck. My next mobile radio install will most definitely be in the spring, winter or fall. Got everything installed, tested radio, and it would not transmit. My soldering job was the problem. Had to do it over. All seems to be well now. I am very pleased with the install since I am a new Ham and everything seems to be working fine now, especially happy that my roof is not leaking after installing the Larsen NMO Hard Mount. 73 KK4CWV

I don't know if I will be going to Delta testing or Olive Branch. Working for the railroad I am on call all the time so I have trouble scheduling anything. I hope I will be able to make the trip to Huntsville.

Shouldn't be long now before I can get on the air myself. Last night I ordered a Yaesu FT 2900R and a Comet NMO Mount Antenna for my truck. I think pretty soon I am going to have to order one of the Wouxun HT's usually I try to stay away from Chinese made as much as possible but from the ones I know of several people that have these and they seem to be a lot of radio for the price. I am also planning on testing for my General at the monthly meeting this month. I wish now that I had prepared to take the General at the same time I took Technician but it just didn't work out that way. Also I am planning on going to the Huntsville Hamfest Aug. 20 & 21 if I can work it into my schedule. 73, KK4CWV

Yep, I just talked to him today.

Cool! They seem like really good guys. I spent quite a bit of time with them during Field Day and had a lot of fun!

I am going to try to get out there this weekend. I work for the railroad so I have a crazy schedule to say the least but if I don't get stuck in Birmingham, Al. I look forward to attending.

Until about two weeks ago I never really gave a lot of thought to ham radio. I read some posts on another forum about ham radio and how useful it can be during times that other means if communication are down and it sparked my interest. Not knowing anyone involved on amateur radio I decided to do a google search and ended up finding QRZ.com. After studying the Tech test a little while I noticed that I could take the test in Olive Branch, MS. at the Olive Branch Amateur Radio Club monthly meeting. I hope I am in town this weekend so I can check out Field Day, so far the few Hams I have met seem to be a lot like people involved in shooting sports in the sense that they are very excited about their hobby and very willing to help a newbie.

I just took and passed my Technician test yesterday after work. Look forward to learning all I can about Amateur Radio.

They are both fine I guess if you want a novelty gun. Tom Givens of Rangemaster in Memphis reviewed the Judge for SWAT Magazine in Sept. 2010. He also discusses this review on the Pro Arms Podcast. I believe it is Podcast #60. Tom was able to give this gun an honest review since it was not sent to him by Taurus but one that he ordered himself.

I get to hang around those areas working on the railroad. Fine Neighborhoods! LOL

Looks Good! I like it!

The reason I have been unable to get a MG the last few years.
BigJim replied to Alleycat72's topic in General Chat
Now you should fabricate a mount for the Machine Gun. It would be Way Cool on that truck. -
That's right. They now sell a kit to install in the mag to prevent it from happening. No worries now though, I have a Ruger LCP.
