  1. Cougar and Lynx? I've seen some Cat prints that looked a bit large for a Bobcat. Will be interesting to see what shows up on the cam. And will be sure to take pics of tracks in the future ...didn't want to lose valuable hunting time to chase Bigfoot :)
  2. I put up a Trail Cam today. Didn't do any baiting or anything. Tons of traffic on this trail so it will be cool to see what comes up.
  3. The Track I found was in Whites Creek. Will get back out in the next day or two to check it out and put up a Camera
  4. And this:  http://wildrlog.com/2008/03/26/black-bear-return-to-middle-tennessee
  5. I found this story:  http://www.newschannel5.com/story/16592822/black-bears
  6. I went out Turkey Hunting yesterday at the end of the day. An old Logging road that I hunt had been washed out pretty hard from the Storm and the leaves had been cleared off in a narrow strip... was doing lots of Tracking.   Saw the usual Coyote, Bobcat, Deer, Dog....and then a Big print about the size of my Palm. Not super clear but pretty deep in the mud. Really looked like a Bear. Track was going across the Trail and I only found the one. The Sun was going down and I didn't want to get stuck climbing down the Ridge in the mud in the dark so I had to leave. I'm going to put out a Trail Cam and see what pops up. Fun to have a nice clear tracking path though!
  7. Thanks! Just don't want to miss the 'bump' before the season ends. I went out yesterday end of day and didn't see/hear anything. But a friend of mine was out riding horses and saw a few a couple days ago strutting in the afternoon in my favorite hunting spot. So they're still there....
  8. Gobbling should stat back up again this week. Please post if you hear it.   I was at Boxwell Reservation for Scout Camp over the weekend and saw a bunch of Large Toms there. Hear NO Gobbling, a little bit of Cackling when some Dogs started harassing Hens at about 3:00am :)
  9. Skunked.   But it was a nice day to sit in the woods. Caught my limit in Ticks!
  10. I'm going out late morning tomorrow....we'll see. Where I've been hunting I have only seen them near ridges. I found lots of feathers on lower ground in the winter but haven't seen them near the fields
  11. I got out at 5:15am this morning. No Gobbles I worked a Ridge/Logging Road that has had lots of Turkey activity....nothing.   At 10:30 I started working my back to the car. When I got to the bottom of the Hill I spotted a Tom going Up the Hill (where I had been). The only noise it made was from walking in the leaves. I sat down and called a bit.  Nothing.  Didn't feel like chasing after it.   That sighting motivated me to work another Ridge where I had seen several Turkeys last week. At 11:00, I climbed up and went a few hundred Yards and spotted a Large Tom in Full Strut right in the middle of the Road. I Sat down and called.  No response and it didn't look my way.  Still Fanned out.   I started wondering if it was a Decoy....then I saw it move. Started working my way closer staying behind cover. Called some more.  No response. Stalked in closer and got BUSTED...it ran off into the Bushes.   Took a lunch break and went back up from 2:00-4:00...nothing.   Moral of the Story:  Just because you don't hear them doesn't mean they aren't out there. Also....don't Rush in when you spot a Tom in the middle of the road!
  12. DEFINITELY make friends with a knowledgable Archery Shop and have them set you up. Too many variables to figure it all out on your own.   I went the Low Tech route and am Shooting Recurves. The biggest challenge will be getting close enough to Game.
  13. Thanks for posting the story....it's encouraging. I've been chasing Gobbles all over the woods today but could never get them to come in. Maybe tomorrow!
  14. Nice!!   I had three "Gobbles" today but couldn't close the deal.... had to leave the woods to pick up the kids. Might have to try an end of day hunt
  15. Just pulled one off my arm... Permethrin spray going on my hunting clothes tonight!!
  16. Flagged at the 1 yard line... Had two Hens circling me about 10' away for about 45 minutes. Tom didn't show up.   I guess if LIVE decoys didn't work, it just wasn't my day :)   On the bright side, I got the best lesson ever on calling from those Hens. 'Talking to the Turkeys' is very helpful. I've got a pretty good "Purr" now.
  17. Greg, I'm in the same boat too. 10 ring has it right. Best way to get ready to deer hunt is to hunt Turkey, then hunt squirrel, hunt Coyote.... You'll know your land quite well after that and get woodsmanship skills. That's what I'm doing anyway....hunting on a friends private land. Get a Topo map, a notebook and some Binoculars. Read some books on Tracking and on Whitetail hunting. I'm going to be out in Bowhunting season as well. By the time Rifle/Deer rolls around I should be in pretty good shape.
  18. My son and I went out at sunset to scout for Roosts. Went up to a ridge above where I had seen a few turkey last Thursday....heard a branch crack over our heads and a few seconds later a LARGE Turkey flew away. BUMMER. we went about 100 yards away and set up a blind overlooking a clearing. I won't get out until about 8:30...we'll see!
  19. I had been seeing signs where I hunt, but no Turkey. Thursday I was scouting a finally found a few...good sized Toms and a few hens. I'm out of town for the weekend :( but will be out there Monday morning!
  20. I saw 10 or so crossing the road just outside of Marrowbone Lake on Sunday. I heard a few that afternoon on the private land I am going to be hunting. My Brother-in-Law has been seeing them up near Pegram
  21. My 8 year old son is planning to call for me. Don't think that Mom will let him have a 20Ga yet :)
  22. Yes, I've seen quite a few on downed Logs but was trying to be patient :)
  23. There is a Bug... when I tried to buy Annual Sportsman with the Migratory Bird added on, the HIP Survey questions didn't come up and my transaction wouldn't go through. Was able to do it from my computer though.
  24. From my phone it looks like it is already working
  25. They need to quit calling it "an App". It is a website optimized for Mobile Devices (he said in a nerdy voice as he pushed up his glasses :)
