1. If you want to save a LOT of money but still always have camo, get a lightweight/partial mesh leafy suit. In warm weather you can wear it over Shorts and T Shirt and in the winter you can wear it over cheap thrift store wool sweaters and insulated coveralls....and NOT have to buy everything in camo.   I have the ASAT Leafy. Use it all year.
2. This was near Old Hickory in Whites Creek.   It could just be an above average sized Raccoon that ate WAY too many persimmon. Looked too big for Racoon But I'm going to keep my eyes open.
3. I'm going to be hanging in those trees for the next few months. At least I won't be caught off guard. Would have been much more of a shock if I wasn't expecting to see one.
4. Found this today in Whites Creek. Full of persimmon seeds.
5. I bought one but have only used it once.   Thing is....it's another thing you have to carry. I don't think it smells much less than DEET 100. It doesn't work if it is windy.   It DOES work well for swarming little bugs/flies, but I find the DEET to work for that. And DEET works for chiggers and ticks.   So I don't know. I guess I will carry it early season since I have it.
6. Too much rain in Nashville today. Tomorrow looks good though.
7. Wow...will do thanks. I'm not clear on where it is actually legal as well. Probably frowned upon at Shelby Park :)
8. http://loshbough.com/policies/ It looks expensive at first glance but it's 2 days hunt, 3 nights lodging. Includes a guide, field dressing and delivery....and the processing rates aren't bad either.   But at the end of the day, it's going to be a $1,000 pig. I live pretty close so it's something I'll likely do some day.   I have relatives in Florida that can hook me up but by the time I drive that far and have to stay in hotels I wouldn't likely be saving any money. And I prefer hunting in the hills.
9. Even though you are getting good and correct information here....READ THE REGS FOR YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I used so many exclamation marks because I have a relative that simply won't do it. He is also too old to have to take the Hunter Safety course. He gets THE WORST info and advice from his friends and neighbors. As in all wrong, largely illegal and unsafe
10. I go to SMKW  at least twice a year. I've gotten pretty good at getting out of there without spending a lot of money :)   Although now they sell 5.11 clothing and often on sale.  That has cost me a couple hundred bucks! A nice thing about SMKW is that you can ASK QUESTIONS and usually you can actually get real help. The last few times I was there I had a specific type of knife I was looking for and a salesman quickly took me around the whole store and showed me 4 or 5 options that would have taken me an hour or two to find.
11. I got my son a Gamo Recon Whisper Pellet Rifle for Christmas. Haven't shot it at longer distances yet but using the (crappy) Scope, I shot wooden matches (two in a row) and a Pumpkin seed from 30 feet :) I was standing and using a Walking Stick to steady the Rifle.   The Sights are good on it but I would prefer a more narrow front sight. The rifle is capable of much more accuracy than that sight will allow.   It is definitely accurate down to 'minute of squirrel head' inside 15 yards. And the "Whisper" models are very quiet.
12. It would be easy to say there were no deer....I haven't seen ONE since Rifle season opened. Had a few chances that I screwed up in Early Season. But right up until the end of the season, i was finding fresh sign...tracks, scat and found lots of Rubs in just the last few days.   Also got a few Nocturnal/early morning pics of Bucks and does. There are definitely still Deer there...but not standing in front of me.
13. Were you hunting in Kingston Springs? Nice to know there are still Quail around.   I was in Alabama in the summer and heard SO many Quail while I was fishing. Had forgotten that sound.
14. If you want a real challenge, use a Longbow :)   But yes, with a .22 you just need to be fairly still. This time of year you can go for hours without seeing any though. Where I hunt they get really active about 45 minutes before sunset. But the last days of deer season I was only seeing maybe 10 or so and they were mostly outside of (MY) Bow range.   But with a .22 they would have been easy targets.
15. The shooter SHOULD never hunt again. There is no possible excuse for this to have happened
16. You can find GREAT deals on Marlin 30-30 and put a Rail/cheap Scope and Sling and couple of boxes of LeverEvolution ammo for $600 easy. Fun rifle to Hunt with.
17. Just listed my AR for sale :(  This thread is making me miss it already. Oh well....I can only keep so many toys.
18. Funny thing...I have only heard ONE Coyote this year and I was out a lot during early Season. Not sure what's up but I'm not complaining.   I did get a couple on Trailcam.  But last Winter I heard packs of them every day while I was hunting.
19. Let me preface this by saying I've never shot my AR at anything farther than 200 yards and I don't have a Scope on it.   But I have a 1:9 twist 20" barrel and it seems to be fine with anything from 40gr-65gr. I never tried a heavier round than that.
20. Federal Fusion 62Gr is a good choice and is pretty easy to find.
21. If I buy one again, it will have a Pop up ROOF too and not have those jointed Tent supports. Sitting low with a Rifle/Shotgun, I didn't HAVE to use the roof supports as long as it wasn't wet out.   I actually just cut the roof out of an old Bone Collector Doghouse blind so I could shoot my Recurve out of it. Going to try just setting it up under overhanging branches.   I really don't like going out into the woods and then spending the whole day sitting in a dark tent.
22. 15 to 18 is my favorite range. I've only been shooting for a year.   I had to ALMOST shot opportunities where they were TOO close and on the wrong side and I couldn't move without getting busted. Haven't given up yet....but am looking into getting into a tree at least occasionally.
23. It's going to be hard for me to switch to Rifle but I guess I will. I've been skunking out on Bow...Hunting from the ground with a Recurve.  IT'S HARD. I've gotten close though.   Going to squeeze in a few more attempts this week but I'm already thinking about laying off some  of my areas until Saturday to keep them unpressured.
