1.     Unfortunately they are co-workers so there is little chance of kicking them out of my life unless I quit my job, which I don't really want to do right now. But yes, ignorant and foolish are good words, but I would choose the word dangerous over those two. Incredibly dangerous. And the problem is I can just imagine all the sheeple in the country repeating statements identical to the ones my acquaintances made. Maybe this is what the Mayans were talking about...
2. Ummm...ok just ran across this article on the NRA Facebook page. Please excuse me if my link doesn't work, the last one I copy/pasted didn't work right for some reason (thank you to Dolomite for fixing that link for me) but this article is titled "Cuomo Says He Will Outline Gun Proposal Next Month" and it's from the NY Times.       http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/nyregion/cuomo-says-he-will-outline-gun-measures-next-month.html?_r=3&   Here's the quote that made me look twice and then grimace:   In the interview, Mr. Cuomo did not offer specifics about the measures he might propose,  but, while discussing assault weapons, he said: “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”   I'm wondering why he thinks "confiscation" would hold up in court? At this point is there a possibility that it could? How about "Mandatory sale to the state"? I would be truly flabbergasted and enraged at the thought something like that could hold up in court, and normally I'd say no way it could. However, things are getting INSANE right now! I've have acquaintances I've always considered conservatives that would stand up in defense of the 2nd Amendment, and they're saying things like "Well, shouldn't SOME guns be banned?", or "Why do people need assault weapons?". Of course once asked which weapons should be banned or what an "assault" weapon is, they have no ground to stand on. It's like these people have been brainwashed overnight. I'm really freaked out guys!
3.   Did anyone else read/hear in many reports for days after the shooting that Lanza (the shooter) left his Bushmaster AR in his car and did the actual killing with his two handguns? Now all of a sudden they're saying that he used the rifle to do the killing. Was this just media confusion or are they changing the story now to help push along their anti-gun agenda?      Also does anyone else think it's ironic that Eric Holder (who's now working on this "assault weapons ban") is fine with giving "assault weapons" to cartel members and drug lords in Mexico, but thinks the American people don't deserve the right to have them?      I have one more point to make: Had this "assault weapons ban" been passed...say...last year. Do you think that the events at Sandy Hook would have been different?
4.     As far as the assault weapons and hi-cap magazine ban read this     http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/white-house-president-supports-assault-weapons-ban-other-210135332--politics.html    The only hope that an assault weapon/hi cap mag ban won't happen is if somehow the GOP majority in the house can stop it. Obama supports it, as well as maybe even more legislation. As for ammo regulation that's just IMO the easiest way to cripple the firearms community, and therefore the most likely tactic to be used in the future.  Obviously I could be wrong on the ammo regulation but it's just my opinion.
5. http://www.facebook.com/BoycottCheaperThanDirt   Check out how many "Likes" this page has gotten in such a short amount of time. I'm not sure CTD will be able to live this one down.
6. I'm confident we will see an "assault" weapons ban, as well as a hi-cap magazine ban in the next few months being voted on. I'm also confident it will pass. If this is all that happens within the next 4 years IMO we can consider ourselves lucky. My biggest fear (and probably many of the people on this forum) is ammunition regulation, as the 2nd amendment doesn't really protect us from that. Making ammo (including reloading supplies) prohibitively expensive, or banning NATO used calibers would be an enormous blow to us (the firearms community), and IMO wouldn't cause a tenth of the backlash that firearm confiscation would. I'm fairly sure those type ammo laws would hold up under supreme court scrutiny.    Maybe I'm being a "Negative Nancy" here but I believe that this is the beginning of the end for our 2nd amendment freedoms. Don't get me wrong, they've already been eroded, but I believe we are now on the "fast" track to the end. I said this in another post but imagine when everyone in America has "free" health insurance provided by the Democratic party. Think about trying to beat them in an election! I sincerely believe that in maybe 20-25 years (of continuous Democratic admins) the firearms community will consist of only a hand full of wealthy people across the country who could afford the red tape BS, and with only minor backlash from the public throughout the process to get to that point.    Agree? Disagree?                          TheFinder
7.
Mine is a bone stock tactical model with the 16 inch bull barrel.
Nice...that's one I really need to get. I just have the blued carbine version, I love it, but the bull barrels look and perform so good on the 10/22. Did you replace the barrel or did it come with a bull barrel?
8.
That ammo was highly touted here by several folks about 9 months ago in a long "best .22lr" thread. Since it's the same 40 gr. lead round nose specs as my fav bulk (Blazer) picked up one of the double packs myself maybe three months ago. Just got around to shooting some of it a few weeks ago, and I had about a one in ten or 15 dud rate, total failure to ignite type dud. Most or all, can't remember, that I tried again still wouldn't fire. Out of Marlin 60, Beretta NEOS and Ruger Single 6. Also could tell that the loads varied, could hear and feel it. About as bad as (at least the previous) Golden Bullet performance over the last couple years. Actually, even the GB's didn't have that many duds, just notorious for light loads. Was surprised and disappointed after all the accolades I've heard. It's more expensive from Wally's than the Blazer I've been getting online, too. - OS
I had the exact same problem, varying loads (to me it seemed even worse than the golden bullet). Failure to fires, etc. It's weird because I love the regular Winchester Super X .22s the cheaper 36gr HPs. I guess I should call Winchester and see if they'll send me some ammo/refund. I was wondering if maybe it was just old ammo, but sounds like the QA is just not up to par. What 22LR ammo do you prefer OS?
9. My and my buddy went to Wally world today to get some 22LR for an awesome day of plinking like we try to do every week. For the first time ever, they were out of everything except the Winchester M-22 1000 round pack for $46. We had little choice but to buy it or drive a good ways to try another store, so we went ahead and decided to try it out. It was the worse rimfire ammo I've ever tried in my life. We went through the whole box and ever other round sounded like it was a light load. We had almost 15 failure to fires, I had several that wouldn't chamber because the bullet was misshapen. Upon close inspection the brass looked somewhat old, but I mean how old could it be? I usually get a couple of the 333 Winchester HP boxes when I go plinking and I never have a problem. Hell, I've never had a problem with any 22LR except maybe with an old box of the Wildcats seeming to be a mixed bag as far as power. I was using my trusty 10/22 and he was using the Marlin 795. My Ruger has always worked great with any ammo, his Marlin fairly rarely has a malfunction, but never in the quantity we saw today. Anyone else have problems with this ammo or did we just get an old/dud box?
10. They will do it like they do everything else, using Fabian tactics. They will do it slowly, with the media (including social media) on their side. All the screens everyone's eyes are now glued to will be preaching the evils of guns (even more so than now). It really wouldn't take that long. Like someone else said on this thread, the Dems have bought off so many voters that it's now almost impossible to defeat them. Think about how bad it'll be when ObamaCare really sets in. What percentage of the country will vote against someone giving them "free" insurance? Dems will keep getting re-elected, the SCOTUS will be all libs eventually. The 2nd amendment will be interpreted differently or changed. Went to Wal-Mart the other day to get ammo, and in the 5 minutes I was there 2 people commented on how they thought "assault weapons" (pointing to the AR on display) should be illegal and they couldn't believe how they were being sold in Wal-Mart. And this is in TN!!! I think it will happen, I will probably be old when it does but I think it'll happen. Think about the real possibility of Dems being in power 24+ years in a row, and then tell me our 2nd amendment rights will not be violated. TheFinder
11. Ok so I'm getting paid for a job next month (if the Lord wills it) and I will have a little "extra" dough that I'm planning on spending on firearms. It'll be about $1000. I need a pocket gun so my first thought was Kahr cm9. I also want a lever gun so I'm pretty set on the Marlin 336. My question to ya'll is if I handed you $1000 under the condition you could only spend it on firearms (no ammo/gear) what would you spend it on? I pretty much know what I'm going to get based on my needs, but what would you guys get based on what you need/want right now? Just for kicks... TheFinder P.S. Wasn't sure where to post this, hope it's ok here.
12. Ok, so I'm pretty embarrassed by this but I'll ask anyway. So while watching the Breaking Bad finale I decided to do a detail strip and clean of my G19 as I do every few months if needed. I got it all cleaned up and was putting everything back together but when I was putting the firing pin safety plunger back in the tiny spring somehow got caught down in the hole and tried to turn sideways. I had already pushed down on it before I realized what had happened and now the spring is very slightly bent. I tried to straighten it as much as I could and I put it back in. So today (first time shooting it since then) I fired maybe 50 rounds through it and then whammy...it actually malfunctioned. I was happily shooting away and then "click". I pulled the slide back and noticed that the mag was empty, but the last (empty) casing was still in the chamber. This has never happened to me before, the ammo was fairly old and it was Winchester White Box. I fired it maybe 40 more times (this was a rifle shooting day, didn't have much 9mm with me) and no more malfunctions. I've never had this happen before, I've got about 3500 rounds through the G19. So could the slightly bent firing pin safety plunger spring be the culprit? I'm going to order a couple more in the next few days and replace it anyway because it makes me nervous, but just don't know what the symptoms are. Thanks guys for your help. TheFinder
13. Ok guys so while searching local pawn shops I stumbled upon a Western Field 740 Marlin, so from what I've gathered it's a Marlin 336 that was sold by a certain company. It seemed to be in good condition and was priced at $250. I really like the looks of it, nice wood and no pitting or problems with the bluing. I'm wondering if there was any difference between the "normal" Marlin 336 and the Western Field version, and also if this is a good price.
14. Thanks for all the advice guys, keep it coming. The Marlin in the classifieds is really beautiful, if I had the money now I'd without a doubt be all over it. Is it normal for the lever on a lever gun to have side to side play in it while open?
15. Ok guys I'm now in the market for my first lever gun and I'm very very excited to finally get my hands on one. In mid-September I will have saved up $1000 to buy two guns, one will (God willing) be the Kahr cm9, and the other will be my first lever action rifle (I want it in 30-30). From the research I've done the Marlin 336 (NIB $385 at wally world) is a favorite among many people and it fits into my budget nicely. The problem is I keep hearing that ever since Remington took over manufacture of these the quality has gone downhill. I went to Wal-Mart to check one out and indeed there was a lot of slop in the lever itself, although I'm not sure if this is normal or not having never owned one. The man behind the counter told me to stay away from the new Marlins and instead go for either a Henry or a Winchester 94. The Henry($400-600 on GB) I could afford but the Winchester is pretty pricey new, the prices I saw were in the $1,000s, although I saw some used on GB for in the $500 range. So what do you guys think? Should I look for an older Marlin in good condition? Are the new ones just fine? Or should I forget the Marlins and go with Henry or a used Winchester? I need your help as I'm more of a handgun guy, and have very little experience in these matters. Thanks, TheFinder
16. In case anyone cares I just got my ammo from tds-us.com in today. I ordered it Friday morning so not too shabby for UPS, just 5 business days. All things considered I would order from them again, their website could use a little help but as long as they do what they say they will that doesn't really matter.
17. Wow that's a crazy good price, now I just have to get a .40 cal firearm! I ended up ordering 100 rounds of 9mm 124gr +p HSTs for 65.00 shipped. The shipping was higher than I thought it was going to be but hey, just got back my tax money and I've been wanting some HSTs for a long time. I ordered friday morning but so far I haven't gotten a tracking number. Not even sure if UPS gives out tracking numbers. Anyway I hope everything goes through ok because I really haven't heard much about these guys for a long time.
18. Hey guys I was able to find some Federal HSTs online for a pretty good price at TDS-US.com. Ammotogo and some other places were out. Anyone ever ordered from tds before? If so how'd it go?
19. I had a dream just last night that a strange guy kept trying to get into my house. I'd push him out and lock the door but he would immediately somehow get it back open. I ran into my room to get my Glock but for some reason the slide was off and I couldn't get it back on, there were extra parts lying around and I just couldn't seem to assemble the gun. Weird. Woke up somewhat unsettled and turned over and looked at my G19 fully assembled, went right back to sleep.
20. I lived in Chattanooga about 12 years ago and it didn't seem like it was a bad place to be, and now all I hear about is home invasions and shootings in that area. What changed? I know the economy is bad but still...maybe I was too young to notice how bad it was back then. Dolomite: That's some heavy stuff right there, I can't imagine how I'd feel in your situation. I don't know what to say except don't give up on your mom, and you're doing the right thing (as I'm sure you know) by arming your family.
21. Heh, you're right I've probably spent three times the shipping just driving around. It's time I just break down and order it online, I think I'm going to go with ammotogo. Thanks for the help everyone!
22. Good question, I didn't really think about that until last night while at the Guns and Leather in Greenbriar to pick something up for a friend. They suggested I talk to Mark at the Hendersonville store (it's closer to where I live) and see if they could order it for me. Last time I called, Mark was busy but I'm going to try again in a half hour or so. I'm hoping they will sell it to me even though I'm not an LEO, we shall see. I appreciate the website suggestions everybody, I just didn't feel real comfortable ordering online from a place I've never used (especially since some of them require photocopies of your ID) and had never heard anything about. If Guns and Leather can't get it for me I feel better now about using one of the websites ya'll mentioned. Plus the shipping at AmmoToGo wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be! P.S. If ya'll were given the choice of carrying Federal HST or Winchester Ranger-Ts which would you choose?
23. So maybe this doesn't belong in this particular forum but I've been looking everywhere for a brick and mortar store that carries the Federal HSTs in 9mm. So far I haven't been able to find HSTs in any caliber at all, except on the internet. I keep hearing (and seeing) great things about this carry round and I really want me some but I don't want to pay for the shipping costs associated with ordering ammo online. Does anyone know of a place in TN (preferably close to Nashville) that carries this stuff? So far I've checked D&T, Guns and Leather (both of them), Outpost Armory, Goodlettsville Gun Shop, nRange, Bass Pro Shop, all of the sporting goods stores in Rivergate, and East Side Guns (Bill Bernstein is a super cool guy). Nobody carries Federal HST or Winchester Ranger-T. I know that they are not illegal to sell to civilians, so it seams like somebody would have them! Help! TheFinder
24. I think we're long lost twins, you took the words right out of my mouth again.
25. So true, people need to quit talking about how he needed to improve and applaud him for not freezing under pressure as most people would. He did a good thing and might have saved lives. You critics go ahead and talk about how when you were at the range shooting the picture of the man with a gun it was so easy, just wait until the real thing happens to you. Just hope you react with as much courage as this man.
