  1. Not completely sure what statement you're making there, but hey thanks for replying to my thread in the first place and posting your opinion. Since you've never had any negative experiences in regards to carrying a gun in public you must be doing a great job representing the HCP community so keep up the good work.
  2. The ABC and their infinite wisdom. I've waited tables before and we had to get our ABC certification before we were allowed to serve liquor. It was the biggest waste of time and money...you pay them something like $115 and sit through a 4 hour class...3 1/2 hours of which is the "teacher" telling you they're out of things to "teach" so we can take a nap if we want. The other 30 mins was a video on the little known fact that if you drink a lot of booze you will get drunk. You also have to actually RENEW your certification every few years...as if you could forget something so exciting.
  3. Good lord I'd be confused by those signs too, maybe that was his problem although he didn't have one in his store. How on earth are those signs even allowed to be displayed???
  4. I did have button up shirt on that covered most of the grip, and a coat on over that. Unfortunately it's a Glock 19 in bad nylon hip holster and some parts still show (I still consider that open carry). That's how I'm going to carry it for the next week until I get my DeSantis IWB and if someone isn't posted and sees it, and then decides to treat me like an especially stupid criminal, then I'm going to treat them politely, never shop there again, and then rant/post about it here. That's just the way it's going to be (unless I get kicked outta here) sorry if some people don't like it. I've been in there many times over the years so it surprised me when he acted that way. Oh well. If he wants to post that's up to him but there's four more liquor stores within about three miles so he may loose a bit of business. P.S. I'm not sure how I wasn't using common sense...
  5. +1 for Hendersonville PD being "aggressive". I was on my way to a good friend's funeral and stopped at the K-Mart in Hendersonville to call to confirm the location. I wasn't really thinking straight at that time, and while talking on the phone I opened my door a crack and set a coke can down on the pavement. Three seconds later two cop cars with lights going and woop wooping sirens block me in like I just robbed a bank. I ended up with a $115.00 ticket for littering...in a k-mart parking lot...where the guy in the street cleaner truck gets paid to clean. I know I know littering is bad, but really? They had no mercy. BTW I grew up in Hendersonville, went to middle school and high school there so you'd think I'd know better...
  6. I was thinking that as I said that to him, but all I was sure of was that it's not illegal to carry there. Do you happen to know what code or statute says that so I can direct him toward it (over the phone)?
  7. Ok so I've had my HCP for a little over a week now, I've got a DeSantis IWB holster coming in about a week and until then I'm open carrying. I stopped by Stewarts Ferry Liquors (next to Lucky's Bar) tonight to pick up a bottle of wine for my roommate. I of course looked all around the small entrance for any gun related postings and there were none. I walked in and got what I needed, walked up to the counter and the owner (I'm assuming he's the owner, I've been there several times and he's the only one ever working there) says "You know you're not supposed to have that in here" and points to my Glock. I looked at the door thinking I'd missed a sign and said "I looked for a sign did I miss it?" and he replied "No there's no sign, it's against the law to carry a gun where alcohol is sold." I know that isn't true but I'm not going to be an ass so I said "I'll remember you don't want me to carry here in the future, after all it's your property. But just to let you know there is no law about that, the guns in bars bill changed that last year." (I'm not sure it was in that bill but I knew it wasn't illegal) He looked at me all snarky and really sarcastically said "Oh sure, right." obviously not believing me and kind of acting like I'm an idiot. Then he said something like "I prefer to be the only one armed in here" in a suggesting tone as though he was ready to shoot me if I tried anything. I just smiled and told him that regardless of the law I will not carry here any more now that he's told me he doesn't like it. I said thank you (he didn't reply) and left. Now what do you do with these type of people? I mean if you're going to tell someone outright that they're breaking the law shouldn't you know if you're right? The only other wine/liquor store I've carried in (Jackson Downs) isn't posted and neither they nor their security guard looked twice at my gun. I guess I know where I'm going for wine or bourbon now. Sorry to rant but it just pissed me off, but it felt like he was treating me like a suspicious criminal for no reason. I guess I'm going to have to get used to people like this, but I don't have to be happy about it. I can't wait for my DeSantis to get here...
  8. It's kind of complicated, but the simple version is I spend a great deal of my time at work (East Nashville among the liberals) and I can't OC at work. I work in a somewhat bad part of town and that was one of the main reasons I felt I needed to carry in the first place. Looking back I probably should've gotten the Glock 26 instead of the 19...but that just gives me an excuse to buy both! I tried on a Galco Stow-n-Go yesterday and I thought it worked pretty well...but I'm hoping the Crossbreed will conceal it much better. I haven't tried the Crossbreed on yet but from what I hear it should do the trick.
  9. Speaking of Oregon...I was looking at the usacarry site's info on Oregon's Concealed Carry Permit and I noticed it said that you couldn't have been found guilty of a misdemeanor ever. That seems pretty harsh to me...
  10. Good luck on your new place, I was thinking about moving a while back and I think I may have been to that same 90 year old smelly house you were talking about...I passed as well. Moving does suck but at least it shouldn't be to terribly cold out, last time I moved it was snowing and I got a horrible cold. Hope this new place treats you well!
  11. I've been following this blog too and I find it really interesting. I wouldn't be able to live in D.C. it would just piss me off too much. Some of the senseless gun laws here in TN are bad enough but compared to D.C. it's paradise. And yeah, she's pretty cute too!
  12. I don't have a flashlight that uses them but I am a dedicated e-cig user, and the "mod" (big battery e-cig) I have uses the LifeP04 CR123a batteries. Batteryjunction.com has really good deals on 6 Tenergy LifeP04 batteries and charger included for something like $30.00. Rechargeable ones are the way to go if you ask me. I've been using Tenergy's for about a year now and they are pretty good, although if you really want a good rechargeable battery, AW brand is the way to go.
  13. I've never had a negligent discharge before...can't say the same about premature discharge...
  14. Wally Walk completed! I was actually open carrying, I've been so broke this week that I could only afford the 12.00 blackhawk holster from wal-mart. Yeah I know...it's bad. Strangely enough most people didn't even notice (that I could tell) although the ones that did were mainly older men, and women. Ladies with kids seemed the most surprised by it, I think their kids thought it was cool (what kid wouldn't). Walking around with that gun gives me a strong feeling of peace and comfort, more than I thought it would. It's a very nice feeling. I'm sure it'll be even better when I can afford a good IWB holster. As much as I know I should conceal carry, open carry was what I wanted to do for my first ever Wally Walk. I love my gun.
  15. Reached in the mailbox today and oh yeah there she was, my brand new HCP! I started doing a little jig and I was turning around to get back in my car (I live in an apartment complex) I see a pretty girl staring at me like I'm nuts. Oh well, life is good. It took a total of 21 days to get here, 9 days after it was issued. I guess I've got to go do my Wally Walk now, I'll take a look at their belts while I'm there! Yay!
  16. Thanks guys for all the generous offers! Very nice people on this forum for sure. Those Amish belts look pretty cool and that's a really great price.
  17. I usually go with a 40 in waist in pants, if I'm going to be carrying IWB I might go up to 42 it just depends on how it feels.
  18. It's a Glock 19. Thanks for the tips guys I'll check out the Dickie's and see what Tractor Supply has to offer. I never really thought about how important the belt was in the whole equation, but now I see it shoulda been obvious how vital a stiff belt is. I figured I'd have the HCP by now, they told me it was issued on the 28th. Hopefully be here tomorrow.
  19. Hey everyone I need a little advice: My HCP should be in the mailbox any day now but due to my current broke-ness I can't afford a good holster for a couple weeks. I ended up buying the cheapo Blackhawk hip holster they sell at wal-mart. The first time I wore it I noticed the because my belt is so worn out and flimsy the part of the gun above my belt leans outward. I know people are going to say "Don't skimp on a gun belt" and they're right, but in the short term I can't really afford a nice $60.00+ belt, it'll have to come later. Has anyone found a relatively good cheap belt ($20-30) that would work ok for the time being? Any help would be appreciated. P.S. When an HCP is issued what does that mean exactly? I assumed at first it meant mailed but I guess I was wrong. Thanks, TheFinder
  20. I'm not sure why I assumed they were out of state, that makes much more sense thanks for the info.
  21. Just called the 866 number today and a very nice lady answered the phone and told me that my permit had been issued on the 28th! That's purdy darn fast, ten days to get issued. I checked the mail today and no permit but I'm hoping it'll be in by the end of the week. I wonder why they don't have the office in state rather than giving those jobs to other people?
  22. Haha...the cop actually said to his partner "These grow in my back yard how bad can they be?". I was too nervous and scared to say anything smart because I was still under the influence at the time. It was quite a nasty experience. Anyways I'm on day 14 and I just checked the mail...no permit. I really want to call to see if it's been issued yet but I don't want them to get annoyed and drop my name to the bottom of the list for bothering them lol. It's just hard to wait and it'd be real nice to know if I'm wasting my time chasing the mailman down everyday if it hasn't even been issued yet...maybe I'll call tomorrow...
  23. Is there a general consensus on whether or not having non stalking misdemeanors on your record slow down the HCP background check process? I have two misdemeanors from 7 years ago, one simple possession (magic mushrooms), and one paraphernalia. Yes yes I know it was really stupid, I had just turned 18 and was being an idiot. It was an isolated incident and I never missed my probation meetings (1 year of probation) and paid all the fines. I was told it would be expunged after I finished paying. Who knows if they really got expunged or not, I've heard TN isn't really good about doing that. So is it going to take seventeen years for me to get my HCP or should that not matter? Also I have a neighbor that told me he was thinking about getting an HCP. He's told me some stories that led me to believe he might have had some trouble with the law when he was younger so I asked him if had any felonies, he replied yes that he had three which had been expunged and he's never had a problem with gun purchase background checks. I told him he probably wouldn't be able to get one, what do you guys think? TheFinder
  24. I thought about carrying in the glove box but I think I want something a little more secure (as in the gun isn't moving around) and also as close as possible to the driver's seat. I've heard that with the Crossbreed Supertuck it's so comfortable that you can wear it while driving. Guess I'll have to find that out for myself...if my permit every gets here. It's been sooooo long....11 days...I actually had a dream I checked the mail today and it was in the mailbox but my name was spelled wrong. NashvilleSlim be sure to post when you get yours, but if it comes before mine I'ma be jealous as hell.
  25. Yeah I only have one firearm and it's a new Glock 19 I bought a month ago. I'm super happy about it, I have about 900 rounds through it and it's performed awesome. I've heard the Crossbreed Supertuck is a great holster so I'm planning on running down to D&Ts in Rivergate to grab one but I'm not sure what to use in the car. Any advice?
