  1. This is actually not the worst idea when you don't have any other options. Surefire and others make great lights that also have striker bezels, and they can be a pretty dangerous little weapon if you know how to use them. I keep one in my go-pack, just for the heck of it. A bright light with a strobe feature is also not a bad idea.
  2. You are correct about the followers being different, although the latest generation of followers have been designed to reliably feed hollowpoint ammunition in either caliber. I should have said the magazine TUBES (and springs) are identical. The end result is still the same: you can shoot either caliber out of the same magazine, no matter what is stamped on the rear.As for the wear issue, it's more likely that your body will wear out long before you are able to wear the barrel out to the point of non-function.
  3. No. The magazines are even identical.
  4. It's a fairly common practice, and it is NOT dangerous. The only differences between a 9mm Glock and the equivalent-frame-size .40 S&W Glock are the bore diameter and the ejector. Everything else locks up the same. The only real benefit to conversion barrels is to take up the play between the muzzle and slide after switching to the smaller caliber (and to be able to safely shoot lead bullets in bulk).
  5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not sure they can do that in Knox Co. My understanding was that it was prohibited by statute now, and CCA was simply grandfathered in.More on topic, they're right down the road from me, and I've been meaning to stop in for a while now. Might just have to do that this weekend.
  6. You're reading too much into what I said. I never meant to imply that anyone planted the rifle, or even that the SWAT guys were crooked. However, based on the evidence presented and the rather obvious spin control that has ensued, Ockham's Razor tells me that this was not a good shoot, but once the first shot was fired, the team was all-in. I've been in situations like this (although none of them ended in gunfire) while working security and in mental-health lock-downs. The simple truth is, when one team member screws up, the rest of the team rallies to his aid and then coordinates their stories in order to protect him. That's just how things work. I can't find one example of an officer coming forward and proclaiming a 'bad shoot', even though the law of human fallibility dictates that they occur.
  7. You and others have stated numerous times that Mr. Guerena pointed his rifle at officers before he was killed, but there is no evidence to support this. The officers themselves (the same ones who first stated that Mr. Guerena fired at them and then revised the statement to say they "thought they saw muzzle flash") didn't even make this claim in the final report--they only stated that they only saw the deceased "appear in the hallway with a rifle". The rifle's safety was on. No self-respecting former Marine whom the spin doctors would want us to believe was intent on killing police officers would do so with his rifle on safe. The whole thing reeks of a cover-up, and unfortunately, we'll only ever hear one side of the story. Is it really so hard for people to believe that the point man--upon seeing Mr. Guerena with a firearm just a few seconds after breaching the front door--simply overreacted and opened fire, thus causing the rest of his team to do the same?Thousands and thousands of taxpayers' dollars were spent on this operation, and yet, in the end, all we have to show for it is one dead civilian who was denied his day in court--gunned down in his own home in front of his wife and son. No arrests. No new evidence. Just a Pandora's Box of public scrutiny and suspicion. I pray to God that this is not what passes as a "successful" mission these days...
  8. Better quit shooting the corrosive stuff, 'cause you've lost your damn mind!
  9. There is no evidence that he actually pointed it at anyone. It was said that he "appeared in the hallway with a rifle"--with the safety on, no less. As Dolomite has already pointed out, the officers are amped up on adrenaline going in, and this impairs their decision-making ability. All the more reason to not employ these sorts of tactics for something as silly as a (failed) drug raid. The risk to both officers and civilians is simply not worth the reward.
  10. Lester's 5-minute suggestion was just abitrary and off-the-cuff. The real point of his post seems to have gone right over your head. If the tactics were as justifiable as you claim, then why all the misinformation? Why lie about Mr. Guerena firing on officers or the officers seeing "muzzle flash"? Since when does 7 seconds equal "a minute"? Also, how is it that the department has enough surveillance to put together a "War and Peace"-style warrant, but they don't realize that the wife and child are at home? And if the risk to officers is unacceptable, as you say, then why put them in that position in the first place? People who actually understand the concepts of cost-benefit analysis and outcome expectancy will realize how stupid these tactics (and the resulting spin control) really are.
  11. This is an excellent and well-reasoned post to which no one has responded. I hate that it got lost in the pissing contest that followed.
  12. I got 2 from 'em already. They're AWESOME.
  13. It's actually only 2 over the 3-year certification period, but you can also buy one additional per year at the slightly higher GSSF price if you're a member.
  14. AIM Surplus now has Daniel Defense Mk18 uppers INCLUDING mil-spec BCGs and charging handles for $799 with free shipping. This is a 10.3 cold-hammer-forged barrel with the DD Mk18 RIS II forend. Great upper for that SBR or pistol project, and with the BCG included, priced WAY below similar uppers from the other Tier 1 manufacturers. Daniel Defense MK18 upper
  15. Basic Spike's lowers $79.95 at AIM right now. Just sayin'...

  17. +1
  18. You really should've ordered the BCM BCG with your upper. I think it's $130 with an upper purchase, which is about a $10 discount. It's as good as any in the industry. Call 'em and see if they can add it before your upper ships.
  19. ^^^This. These decisions are not being made by intelligent, well-educated folks. They're made by wannabe tacticians who are WAY too impressed by the "shock and awe" tactics being employed overseas. For this reason, I don't blame the officers for their actions, but rather their commanders.
  20. Haha. Glad you caught that. Plus, no DA worth his salt would have pushed murder 1 in the first place had the pharmacist merely pumped a few more rounds into a corpse. As has been said since the incident took place, the case really hinged on the testimony of the coroner. Even so, I still believe murder 1 was an excessive charge under the circumstances, and that Mr. Ersland should have a reasonable chance of having his conviction overturned upon appeal.
  21. I feel compelled to also point out that the initial shot was a headshot that dropped the perp where he stood. The subsequent shots were all to the torso. The coroner ruled that the perp was still alive when the pharmacist delivered the second volley. Otherwise, there would've been no murder charge.
  22. Gratuitous 15-22 pr0n...
  23. Bingo. I'll let someone else expound on this, as I try to at least give the appearance that I'm NOT a member of the tinfoil hat community.
  24. This +1. No need for Mini Mags in this gun. Quite possibly the favorite in my collection, and that's saying something given what all I've got in the safe.
  25. You're right about the signature confirmation. They just quoted me $17.something over the phone, but they didn't break it down for me. I was still totally fine with that number. $287 total after transfer/TICS for a stainless 10/22 with synthetic stock, Simmons 4x-32 scope, rings, and scope mount. Oh, and not to mention the freebie shooting glasses and 3 bags of ear plugs.
