Social Security Disability attorney in Knoxville?
Seaslug replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Ah, but how much money is saved on folks who either give up or pass away before they ever receive a dime of the money to which they should have been entitled? We all know by now that SS is the world's biggest Ponzi scheme, and there is less money in the "locked box" than has been paid in. It actually behooves the powers-that-be to deny benefits for as long as possible in order to save money overall based on actuarial formulas, lest the general public realize that the money is not there and begin to question where all those involuntary contributions have been going for God knows how long. In this case, appearing merely incompetent is better than the alternative... -
Social Security Disability attorney in Knoxville?
Seaslug replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
It should be, but as has been already mentioned, it's SOP. I wish that were a joke, but it's literally their policy. I got to see it firsthand when my Dad finally broke down and filed. SSA will not take your application seriously until you've gone through the trouble and expense of hiring an attorney, and the process can take YEARS. The only saving grace is that, once you're finally approved, you're entitled to benefits retroactive to the date of your initial filing, which means a big lump-sum payment (less attorney fees) before the monthly checks start coming. -
+1 to this. And another +1 to everyone who has participated in the discussion thus far. I knew you could do it!

Made a few changes to my Mk18 variant...

I don't have an FFL, but what your friend told you is true. It's been discussed here before, and your concerns are VERY valid. The only saving grace is that the BATFE boys don't get their hands on the books (presuming they're destroying their NICS checks like they're supposed to ) unless and until the shop goes out of business. All the more reason to keep supporting your local gun shops!

They were ordered to destroy the records when that information went public. Whether they did or not, of course, is anyone's guess. Still, it was a black eye for the agency, because maintaining those records was illegal. With this new executive order, it would certainly appear that they have come up with a means of de facto registration without having to bother changing those pesky laws. And as for private sales, we all already know how the current administration feels about those...

Just sent the furniture from my latest AR project to CRC Hydrographics to have it dipped in A-TACS. If you guys haven't seen their work already, check it out! http://crc2.net/

Did anyone else notice this? Back-door registration specific to handguns. Nice.

Well, the barrel is the really important part. Everything else is just gravy. You can buy an assembled BCM upper group (will still need handguard/rail, rear BUIS, charging handle, and BCG) direct from them, and they also offer various railed uppers, as well. You can also buy the other parts I just mentioned from their site to save on shipping. If you want a Daniel Defense barrel, smartgunner.com always has great prices on custom upper groups. You can select a number of different options (rail systems, gas blocks, charging handle, BCG, etc.), and they're built to order at the factory. I have both, plus a LaRue and a Noveske. Can't go wrong with any of 'em.

Not sure I understand what you're saying here. Why is it a problem if the dust cover and FA are already installed? And to partially answer your OP, the make of your bolt and carrier will not aid in fitment. Just buy one that's been properly staked (gas key), tested, and inspected (i.e. BCM, Daniel Defense, LMT, etc.), and you're good to go.

Hahaha! I actually typed this myself at the end of my last post, but I ended up going back and deleting it because I didn't want it to come across the wrong way. You're right, though. Only the buyer and seller can ultimately determine the parameters of a deal. It's their money, after all.

We'll just have to agree to disagree regarding one's ability to always control EVERY variable in a real-life SHTF event, but I'm glad we can.And for the record, I've never HAD to use my FA either, but I do practice silent chambering just to add another tool to the toolbox.

The end result would be significantly greater out-of-pocket and total expense for the buyer, as this flat fee would not be included in the sales price, and therefore could not be rolled into the loan. The commission negotiated with the listing agent remains the same whether he or she has to share with a buyer's agent or not, so the net sales price that the seller would be willing to accept would not change. Therefore, any fee paid to the buyer's agent simply adds to the buyer's expense. I do the bulk of my work with buyers--especially first-timers--so I certainly wouldn't want to do business that way.

You can't foresee any time? Really? So, you can't imagine actually running your weapon dry, moving to better cover/concealment, and not wanting to give your new position away? You can't imagine shooting suppressed from a concealed position and not being able to transition safely? You can't imagine having to find and fight with a battlefield pick-up after running both your primary and secondary weapons dry? You might wanna review those 7 P's yourself, as it sounds like you're far less prepared for Murphy than you should be.I'm thankful for short-sighted folks, because they'll help folks like me survive longer by giving the zombies something to gnaw on... And back to the topic of the FA: A wise man once said, "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it." Just sayin'...

It should also be noted that the FA can be used to chamber a round quietly in a SHTF situation...

I've really enjoyed reading this thread. I learned a lot that I didn't know! Best of luck to the OP! It's a great time to be a buyer!

I've only dealt with 2 family law attorneys in my lifetime--hers and mine. Hers bullied her into committing perjury to use as leverage and then said she'd try to withhold visitation with my daughter unless I took on all the wife's debt and gave up my right to claim any of the equity in the home I had bought and paid for, and mine did nothing but let the meter run for 6 months (to the tune of about $10k) before finally encouraging me to just give into their demands--which, of course, I could have done without an attorney from the very beginning. A year later, I represented myself and got 50/50 custody and eliminated my child support obligation--and got an apology from the ex. So yeah, I can understand why family law attorneys might wanna carry...

Pre-determined Mindset of how to handle a situation?
Seaslug replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If you're not familiar with the case already, Google the Oklahoma pharmacist who was recently convicted of first-degree murder for killing an incapacitated would-be robber. While the dead boy did not have a gun (his friend who got away did), I believe there are some definite similarities to the hypothetical situation you are describing, and the verdict was handed down even WITHOUT any previous internet bravado, etc.As has been said numerous times, if your intent is to KILL rather than to STOP, then you're asking for trouble in the eyes of the law. If an attacker dies as a result of your efforts to STOP him, then so be it. If your intentions are more nefarious, however, then you should keep them between you and your maker. And as evidenced by the case cited above, don't get caught on camera going back to get another gun to finish him off for God's sake... -
I just told you how you could put together a complete Bravo Company (BCM) rifle yourself for around $1k by using just 2 vendors (BCM and G&R Tactical), you big goober. If you can push in 2 receiver pins, you're good to go...

Methinks you're overthinking what exactly constitutes a "build". If you buy a complete upper and a complete lower--from the same manufacturer, no less--you're not doing any more "building" than you would be the first time you clean that Colt you're considering (which should be as soon as you take it home). When us AR folks talk about "builds", it usually includes installing the lower parts kit, grip, and receiver extension in the lower, and possibly even the barrel and the gas tube in the upper. With my suggestion, all the actual work has already been done for you. Hope that clears things up.

You can get various BCM upper groups (minus handguards) on their site for as little as $399. You can get a complete BCM lower (minus stock) at gandrtactical.com for $340. Add a mil-spec BCG (Daniel Defense, LMT, maybe even Spike's) for $140 or less. Add a mil-spec charging handle (I actually prefer the VLTOR/BCM Gunfighter Mod 4), a stock of some sort, a rear BUIS, and a Magpul MOE handguard, and you've got just a hair over $1k in a rifle that'll be at least as good as anything with a pony stamped on the side. Just my $0.02...

Ace Pawn - Powell/Knoxville - Good place to check out
Seaslug replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in General Chat
I hope you're right. I've been telling folks for years that a range on the north side would be a gold mine. -
+1Also, I'm pretty sure those flowers are the work of that hot little brunette that used to have a table full of her homemade jewelry at all the Knoxville gun shows. I miss her. And furthermore, am I the only one who thought that the forum was better off for those few hours without Garufa? Anyone? Bueller?
