Any way to verify military record?
TripleDigitRide replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
She claims to have been a combat medic. I haven't been able to find any evidence of that, but I have been able to find evidence that her ex-husband was stationed at Ft. Campbell. -
Any way to verify military record?
TripleDigitRide replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Whether or not she is a disabled veteran or not isn't the issue, unless she's lying about being a veteran. I'd like to think I'm a pretty understanding guy, but not when it comes to something like that. I have been able to speak with an Afghan veteran who owns and operates a landscaping company in the area. From what he's telling me, he was forced to call the police on her over a dispute involving payment for services he performed. According to him, the police officer (also a veteran) informed him that she had been kicked out of basic training after three days. -
Any way to verify military record?
TripleDigitRide replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
What information will that provide? Anything other than the fact that she was actually in the military? -
To make a long story short, a single mother, with another child due in December, is on a local Facebook group that I run, and she appeared to need some financial assistance. The fact that she claims to be a disabled veteran was enough to nudge me into helping her. We've given her a few items for the baby, assisted another couple into organizing a baby shower that's supposed to take place between now and December. From the very beginning, she cannot have a conversation (online or in person) without pressing the whole "I'm a disabled veteran" story. She clearly knows this pulls at the heartstings of many of us. As much as it pains me to say it, I'm convinced something isn't quite right with her story. She's also constantly telling EVERYONE that she cannot receive food stamps due to making 40 cents over some sort of limit. She doesn't work, so the only income that I'm aware of would be the military disability. Would the military really pay a disabled veteran 40 cents over the limit, just to prevent him/her from being able to collect food stamps? I'm not even convinced that she saw any sort of action while in the military. From what I've been able to gather, I think she may have been beaten by her ex-husband who was also in the military. Based on things she has said, along with the fact that she clearly has some unresolved mental/psychological issues, I believe she MAY have suffered some fairly significant head injuries as a result of the beating. I'm kind of assuming she wasn't lying about the beating taking place. I am not assuming that she's messed up in the head. There's NO doubt about that. To the point, I'm really surprised the government has allowed her to have custody of her daughter. I could go on and on, but I'm wondering if there is any way to verify anything this woman is saying about her military career?

I've been debt-free (except for my home) for most of my adult life, I have a great credit score, and I pay almost everything with a credit card that has NEVER carried a balance or costed me a single penny in fees or interest. If you can use a credit card only for purchases that you were going to make anyway, they can be great. The problem is, many people use them to buy crap they can't afford to be buying in the fist place. I hear people saying that a good credit score isn't important if you have saved at least 20% for a down payment on a home. That's simply not the case. While having a 20% down payment will HELP offset a low credit score, you will still pay a higher interest rate than someone who has the 20% AND a high credit score. A fraction of a percent can make a significant difference throughout the life of a mortgage loan. Every little bit helps. In the end, do whatever works for you. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Thank you. I sent the information to the local news outlets, and it appears at least a couple of them have decided to spread the word. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk -
Unclaimed U.S. Army Veteran - Dickson, Tennessee

That would be great. Thank you. -
Yes, standard practice. When I was in the moving business, moving companies were required to insure your items, but the minimum requirement was 10 cents and 60 cents per pound. I'm not sure if those minimum requirements have changed since then. Most reputable companies will offer additional coverage, at an additional charge.

Amen! I have been on both sides enough times to know that I never want to move myself again if I can help it. When the movers can have me out of my old home and into my new home in the matter of hours, it's a no-brainer for me. As long as I can afford it, I'll pay more for a much less stressful option. Make sure you get a full explanation of the insurance coverage they are providing. Moving companies are only required to reimburse you 10 cents/60 cents per pound. That mean if they drop your fancy big screen TV, they can put the pieces on a scale and write you a check for only a few dollars. The minimum requirements may have changed in the last 15 years, but I don't imagine it would be by much, if at all. Additional insurance coverage can usually be purchased through the moving company. I have a M&P 40 Pro Series. I prefer the M&P because it feels better in my hand. You can't go wrong with either, so choose whichever feels best to you.

I spent about 10 years working for my father's moving company, before he decided to sell it. Even with all of my experience, I always hire movers. I'm extremely tired, so I don't have time to leave a verbose response, but I can share a bit of advice. A few experienced movers can do in a few hours what will take you and your friends all weekend to accomplish. This is assuming you have any friends when moving day rolls around. Save yourself a lot of money and headache by being as prepared as possible. When you pack, use boxes, not trash bags. Use boxes with tops/lids. Do not pack boxes with crap hanging out of the top. Do not pack boxes too heavy. Clearly mark all boxes so there's no trying to figure out where they go in your new home. Disassemble beds and other furniture. Roll up and tie cords for TV's, lamps, etc. Do no leave dresser drawers full of clothing and other crap. Keep everything as organized as possible. I always try to place all boxes along the walls, in as few rooms as possible. I generally try to keep them as close to the door as possible, but not in the way. The less the movers have to walk around searching for stuff, the better off you'll be. Keep your children and pets out of the way. Many companies will charge an additional fee for a safe, depending on its size and location. Ask about this when you're getting quotes. I would always suggest hiring a minimum of a 3 man crew, unless you have a very small amount of stuff. A three man crew costs more by the hour, but you generally save money in the long run. While one is packing the truck, the other two are busy carrying stuff. There is a lot less time being wasted. As far as money goes, it really depends on how much stuff you have, how organized you are, the distance between the old and new homes, how much walking the movers will need to do between your home and the truck. On average, most local moves cost less than $1000. My last two moves were about 1200 square feet worth of stuff, and both times I paid about $400. One of those was from a second floor apartment to a home about 30 minutes away. Bottom line, be as prepared as possible BEFORE the movers arrive. If I can be of any more assistance, don't hesitate to ask. Hopefully I'll have had some sleep before then. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Small claims court assistance needed
TripleDigitRide replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Yes. According to the clerk's office, they will serve him. I know that's sometimes easier said than done. I know where he lives, so hopefully that will help. We'll see. I'm just so damn aggravated. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk -

Thanks for the helpful information, fellas. At this point, I will gladly pay the $177.50 and use a vacation day, if it means this guy will have to lose a day of work and squirm a little bit. The whole ordeal is so ridiculous. I gave him every opportunity to make it right. I can't figure out if someone is giving him some crappy advice, or if he's just this much of a scumbag. If it's the latter, he sure did have me fooled. He really seemed like a nice, genuine dude. Ah, it is what it is. -

TripleDigitRide replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
Yes, he and his bosses know that I am willing to take this to court. His bosses don't really have anything to do with this, as did this job on his own time. I only contacted them because I wanted the judge to see that I had exhausted every available option before bringing the matter to court. So far, he's ignored all attempted communications, including the certified letter that was sent last week. It looks like he has 15 days to pick it up from the post office, before they return to sender. -

The receptionists aren't allowed to give legal advice, and it appears that telling which paperwork I need to fill out can somehow be considered legal advice. After speaking with someone who has been through a similar situation, what I need to do is file a civil warrant. I'm double checking this information before I waste another trip. -
I'll try to make this as brief as possible. I hired a guy to install tile flooring in both of my bathrooms. He was part of the 3-4 man crew who installed the hardwood flooring in my home. Within a few days of completion, the grout lines began to crack. I made multiple attempts to fix this myself, but I was sure it came down to improper installation of the flooring. I contacted the installer 2 months ago - a week or two after the tile was installed. He initially attempted to come up with some lame BS excuses, before saying that someone told him to re-grout the floors, then use a grout sealer. While I was pretty sure the grout sealer wasn't going to get to the root of the problem, I agreed to let him give it a shot. He's pretty well ignored my countless attempts to reach him for a resolution. I have tried to contact him via his phone number, his Facebook, his girlfriend's Facebook, both of his bosses, and I sent a certified letter to his home last week. He has ignored all communications, but I'm still not sure about the certified letter. I know they attempted to deliver it, but tracking information is showing 'Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)". Not sure if he refused to sign, or no one was home. I thought the small claims process was going to be fairly simple and straightforward. I went down to the local court house, and the receptionist wanted to know what kind of paperwork I wanted to fill out. I explained the situation to her, and informed her that I wanted to take the case to small claims court. She again asked me what kind of paperwork I wanted to fill out. And again, all I know is that I want to take this guy to small claims court. After going 'round and 'round with this woman, she finally told me to contact an attorney and ask them which paperwork I need to fill out. I've called a few in my area, but none seem to be all that willing to come off with this simple bit of information. They want me hire them. I thought the whole idea of small claims was so that you didn't need to hire an attorney for a rather small amount of money. Anyway, has anyone been though this? Anyone know which paperwork I need to be asking for? Anyone? Anything?

I don't have any bird feeders, but my neighbor has several. Hopefully this snake thinks the birds taste better than our 5 pound chihuahua/yorkie/maltese mix.
