How can you go wrong with a 1911 design in .45acp?

I came across this site a couple of months ago when I was looking for a good machete to purchase. I ended up purchaing a Cold Steel Kopis Machete. Any way I found this site. Read the BLADES section as well. They also have a pretty good check list for a Bug Out Kit. I make no claim to knowing anything about this outfit, but I did enjoy the articles they have posted.

You know, back in the day when they used to hunt black bear up in the smokeys with dogs (before the feds stepped in and made it park), a lot of the bear were killed with .22 rifles after they were treed by the dogs. Many a man has been killed by the lowly .22 as well. A good .22 does have it's place. A brick of .22 doesn't weight a whole lot either, maybe 4 or 5 pounds. What's 500 rounds of .223 or 7.62x39 weight? 20 or 30 pounds? I think a Ruger 10/22 with Taurus .22 revolver (9 shot) or a 10 shot automatic pistol (pick your favorite brand) could be a viable combination, though I'd probably carry something a bit bigger for a primary pistol. One thing I've always thought about in a SHTF situation is that I'm not going to be looking to primarily fight my way out. That would really be the last thing I'd want to do. I'd want to sneak around. If your sneaking, your chances of living are a bit better than if your fighting. I'm not sure a 500 yard rifle is a necessity. If I'm that far away, especially in East Tennessee, I might as well be a 100 miles away.

Ok, if your going to throw them out there, then post the specifics on 'em. The middle one I assume is Chinese (but we know what happens when we assume) and I figure one of them might be a russian. Regardless they are beauties though!!! I love old rifles! I love the history that goes with then as well!

I like the M1 Carbine. It's a good design. If I were to go that route, I'd be real tempted to pick up a Ruger Blackhawk single action in .30 carbine as well. That way I'd only have to carry one type of ammo. Seems like the old AMT Company also made an semi-automatic pistol in .30. It might have been a Javalina. Sadly, my mind isn't all it should be after 44 years of living. The one problem with a M1 though, is availablity of cheap ammo. 223 and 7.62x39 are half the cost of .30 carbine. I think currently commie ammo is much cheaper than anything else.

I agree with most everything that's been said here. The SKS makes the most sense in my opinion though. You can get a SKS for around $200. That leaves plenty of money to purchase two or three tins of 7.62x39 to put away and another one to shoot. Plus there are all kinds of accessories you can add on to them. Another rifle I'll throw out there is the Little KELTEC SU-16C. It's a pretty neat little .223 rifle that accepts AR mags at a little over half the cost. http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/su16c.html For a cheap bolt gun, I might consider an Mosin Nagent. You can pick those up for around a $100. Yeah I know their old, but most of the ones being imported into the country seem to be very reliable and accurate. Ammo is cheap for them too. A lot of the M44s look to be in excellent condition. It's hard to beat the price on one. I'd also consider a 30/30 lever gun. Ammo is plentiful and as someone else pointed out, they aren't very scary looking.

Heck no! She's just jealous. She's got nothing to worry about! I'm her's forever. It's my house gun though. It's right here next to me now. It's one of the best shooting .45s I've ever had. That's much improved from the mid 90's. A friend of mine had one and it shot consistantly a foot low. Pissed him off royally, since I had a Norinco that shot rings around his SA. SA put a new front sight on it, but that only took out about 4 inches. He traded it for a Sig and never looked back. That Norinco was a sweet shooting pistol too. All I did to it was put some Wolf springs and a solid rod in it. I think I had all of $275 in it. Sadly it got stolen in a break in almost two years ago, along with a Browning Hi-Power and a Colt .22 Peacemaker.

Nice pistol! I have one as well. Bought it off a co-worker so he could buy another co-worker's black stainless still national match. Got a good deal too, $550! Love mine to death! Sleep with it every night. My wife claims it's coming between her and me! Of course, it occupies a place on the night stand.

Hi guys! First time post. I also have to admit that I love snubbies! I've had a little snub for a while and I don't think you can beat'em! Mines from that other true American maker, the one that starts with a "C". It's a little blue Colt Agent with old school Tyler "T" finger grip and it's one of the best shooting little revolvers I've ever had the pleasure to fire! It especially likes 158gr. nyclads. Fits nice in the pocket of jacket. In the past I've had several others including a S&W 36 and a bodyguard, two SP101s in both .38 and .357 (their a bit on the heavy side though for pocket carry, but I love the grips. I've had the Rossi mbl 88 and I've also had a Sig P230. I hated that gun. Two clips at the range and my hand hurt and it was .380! Go figure and I shoot a .45 Springfield regularily! But this little Colt is my favorite. Just a super little gun!
