  1. The distance I normally hear is 5-12 feet, but yes - you need to be able to fire at close range. I'm not sure what the "No ammo needed" thing is about. If you know there is no live ammunition in your handgun, you will tend to not flinch. Probably a better drill is to have someone mix some non-firing rounds into the magazine or cylinder with live ones. It really works better with a DA revolver. My thought has always been that if you have a gun - handgun, rifle, shotgun, whatever - where the recoil bothers you, then you probably need a firearm with less recoil.
  2. Howdee! Care to tell us where The Gun Depot is? Yes, I should know.
  3. Yeah, they wear dumb design shoulder holsters too.
  4. I can't agree Dave. The law is pretty explicit and the AG has done an opinion on it. You wouldn't be suing the cop, but instead the agency. I think there is a good civil case.
  5. Well, after a day of visiting my mother in the hospital, getting rained on, having to get a $100 part for my car and missing the TGO shoot, I think I may finish off the liter bottle of Bacardi Gold.
  6. Well............ Of the folks I know of who have and tout a 10mm, regardless of brand, they seem to have an attitude of, "Hey, I can handle a caliber that even the FBI couldn't", rather than "I have a caliber that does a lot better than a 40 S&W." The term "cowboy" comes to mind. There are advantages in larger, but slower, rounds at close range. That's why I carry a 40 S&W for urban work, while longer distance field work gets a 9mm. In all honesty, I don't see an advantage in the 10mm. Bleed out time is the same as a 40 S&W. Ballistic vests still stop them and the time back on target is significantly slower. The cost of factory rounds is also higher, of course, and reloading incurs additional civil liability. In all, I think there are a lot of reasons to not go with a 10mm. I know of no serious professionals who use them.
  7. I apologize in advance for asking, but why would one want a 10mm snubbie? For that matter why would one want a 10mm?
  8. Maybe they will reconsider their false arrest when you sue them.
  9. Mark, I thought I might make it out for a little while tonight, but guess I'll wait and try to get out for a while tomorrow if possible. My neighbor came up and asked if he could buy my old pickup that hasn't been run in three years. Since I was trying to find a free way to get it hauled off, I acquiesced. But I think it's a bit late to come out tonight. So I think I'll crack open the Bacardi Gold and have a barbecue sandwich and corn on the cob. Y'all have fun tonight.
  10. They originally did. The reason it was changed was to keep some carry-hating sheriffs from arresting packers for inadvertently exposing their concealed handgun. My concern is that OCing will result in a clampdown on carry policy. I think it is a very bad idea unless you are dressed like someone who should be OCing. Most people in civvies do look like cowboys when they OC. Many are, IMHO.
  11. If you do a night shoot with a cannon, you have to use steel wool as a projectile. Do the new neighbors know about this, or should everyone expect a visit from the cops?
  12. Most of the time I make up recipes myself. I check a dozen cookbooks, or more often these days do a search online. That gives me a list of possible ingredients that I pick from. I hadn't seen the A1 sauce before. I have a bottle in the refrigerator and didn't know what to do with it. Being a Scottish-American I couldn't throw it away but think steak sauce is an abomination on any steak I'd want to eat. My ex used it on her cremated steaks. But I can see it in a meatloaf.
  13. Been there; done that. I've never been one for avoiding places that might be trouble. But it is, of course, a good idea. I once walked into a bar in Raleigh just after a shooting. I stepped over the wounded guy and ordered a beer at the bar. And I have a few foreign stories too - many involving alcohol. Then again I planned to lead an interesting life and die by age 35. I tried my damnedest. I'd hate to have memories of a safe but boring life. Now I'm at an age where most of the men in my family have died of a heart attack or were a couple of years older than I am now when they went. Living on borrowed time is a hobby of mine, I guess. I'm like the Energizer Bunny. I just keep going and going. But one thing that helps you to get this way is by being prepared. Guns help a lot in that category.
  14. Well, thank (one of) you for the meatloaf recipe.
  15. You know when you will set up camp?
  16. The Mountain Pie thing has been around for decades. Once you make it a couple of times, you don't need the recipe. BTW, I need a good meatloaf recipe....
  17. I caught like the last 2 minutes.
  18. It's really weird drinking beer while surrounded by coca leaves. Done that many times. But I've never even sampled cocaine. I know I'd like it if I tried it.
  19. I watched that. Very good racing. Two comments: 1. The "Butt Cam" was really weird and not pleasant. 2. It was one hell of a lot better without the idiotic music on the video.
  20. I stopped by today, as usual outside of their hours. John says they are officially open Thursday through Saturday from 11 til 6. Right now, their business is mostly order stuff, although he has a lot of Class 3 stuff and plenty of Glocks for our area. He spent a few minutes telling me horror stories about people trying to sell used handguns, they had bought at other local stores. He didn't mention the original seller, but I did.........
  21. Tower does something that scares me to death. It's not the heights. I love standing on the edge of a precipice looking down a quarter mile. What scares me is the framework that is supposed to be holding me up. Stone - yes. Ephemeral metal - no. Edge of a cliff - yes. Extension ladder beyond ten feet - no.
  22. Déjà vu all over again?
  23. Try them with opium sometime. Uh...never mind. Just kidding!!!!!
  24. Not all people in service to their country are in uniform. I agree with you. Besides, if you are a veteran, you deserve the right to show it. I went to a Veteran's Day ceremony several years ago and was "instructed" by a guy in charge that it was improper to salute in civies. I basically told him to get ****ed. Shortly after, he tried to recruit me for the Order of the Purple Heart. I declined. I've never met anyone in that group who wasn't really weird. I mean - really weird. I later heard he was telling people that they didn't actually have to have a Purple Heart to get in. BTW, I have two. Fortunately, IMHO, he has died since then. Some people are not an asset to the world.
