  1. Interesting thread about Goodman's. I had never been to one before moving to TN in 2012. Went to the one in Nashville last year. Apparently some vendor who got PO'd that I didn't buy went running to mgmt and said I was carrying a loaded Glock (I had it on my hip unloaded to try out some holsters and look for mags). They sent two of Nashville's finest scurrying after me, and they made me show the thing was unloaded (which I don't mind, as I've seen too many terminally stupid people pull dumb stuff at gunshows).   That wasn't the problem. However, I went to the manager and asked who had made this report on me. He wouldn't say, and got really snarky about it. No sooner did I walk away, than my friend noticed that the same two NPD cops who had confronted me earlier were "shadowing us" (and, guys, lemme tell ya - if that's the best you can do in terms of covert pedestrian surveillance ??? You need a refresher course !!!). I finally just stood looking at them and smiled broadly. They looked around real embarassed, like they'd left their zippers down, and almost ran over to the other side of the bldg. I left shortly after, pledging never to return. Still haven't.   I'm with most of the posters - the prices there were absolutely nothing special, with the exception of a little LED flashlight I scored that I have found much higher elsewhere. But, yes, pay to park ? Thank you, no.    I also agree that gun shows in general are likely on the downturn. They just can't compete with the WWW.
  2. I moved to TN from OH a year and 1/2 ago. Have not OC'd that I recall. The few times I did in OH, I found most people, including LEO, were usually fine as soon as I looked them right in the eye, smiled a little, and said "How's it going ??".   The bulk of the time, if you don't act like it's a big deal, no one else will, either.    But I know....then there's the one-percenters......
  3.   Here is the response from Lisa Knight:   It really never was in the law.  It doesn’t change our reciprocity agreement.  The Director has reviewed the requirements from Ohio and determined that they are not substantial similar.    Still trying to get info for the Director, so I can find out what "substantial similarities" no longer exist. My wife doesn't mind having to spend the range time, but the extra money is a pain. I'm sure revenue had nothing to do with this decision.... :x:
  4. I came to TN in June '12. I got my HCP by producing my OH License To Carry A Concealed Handgun, and paying, I think, $50. I don't recall that I had to produce my training certificate. All in all, pretty smooth, and pretty painless. My faint recollection is that it was treated as a renewal.   Now I see this on the state website      If a person with a handgun permit from another state decides to become a resident of Tennessee, such person must obtain a Tennessee handgun permit within six (6) months of establishing residency in Tennessee. All applicants, regardless of permits issued by another state will be processed as originals. The applicant must be twenty-one (21), take a DOS approved handgun safety course, complete the Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit application, provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency, pay one hundred and fifteen dollar ($115.00) fee, and be fingerprinted. Licensing requirements are not included in the reciprocity agreements between states. The mutual recognition of handgun possession privileges between states has not changed and is listed on this website. A facially valid handgun permit, firearms permit, weapons permit or license issued by another state shall be valid in this state according to its terms and shall be treated as if it is a handgun permit issued by this state; provided, however, the provisions of this subsection (r) shall not be construed to authorize the holder of any out-of-state permit or license to carry, in this state, any firearm or weapon other than a handgun. I take this to mean that now all persons obtaining a permit in TN must take the training as if they are being licensed for the first time, regardless of whether they have had licenses issued by other states. If this is the case, it is apparently a change from the past, as I definitely did not have to do so last year.   I have attempted to call the Handgun Carry Permit office in Nashville, but have not been able to reach anyone who could answer any questions.   Does anyone know if the law changed since last summer ??? My wife is here now, after retiring in March in OH, and is PO'd if she is going to have to undergo a full class again to get her HCP, as she already has her OLTCACH.
  5. Forgive the OT question, but I'm a new kid in town, and I really don't have anywhere else I know of to ask.   Does TN law require law enforcement who are in their vehicles at night, conducting traffic enforcement (i.e., radar/laser), to have either their parking lights or headlights on ? Obviously, they have to do so on the roadway - I'm talking about "lying in wait" on the roadside, trolling for speeders or drunks.   I know that in some states, LEO are required to have their headlights on if they are in their vehicles running speed enforcement, be it roadway, crossover median, or roadside. I could not find anything in Tenn. Code Annotated. I've seen one local Nashville suburb clocking recently at night, both parking lights only, and blacked out entirely, from the roadside.   Anybody have any info ?
  6. Thanks for the fast responses. No huge differences, except we are required to notify. There's an effort underway to get that repealed. Also, possession of a firearm in public by one allowed by law to possess it (i.e., no felony conviction, etc.) is statutory. Thus, open carry by one allowed to possess the weapon is legal, since it's not prohibited. No license at all is required to open carry in areas where firearms aren't barred (except in a motor vehicle, since any vehicle carry is considered "concealed"). Ohio Constitution also guarantees right to possess a firearm. However, doesn't sound like in normal practice, things are going to change very much. Looking forward to the move. Supposed to be coming up in the next 30 days or so, once our house closes. We're excited ! Thanks again.
  7. I am moving to TN, possibly in the next 60 days. I'm licensed in Ohio, and obviously interested in the provisions of TN law for concealed carry. I've reviewed this site and a couple of the general US handgun law sites, to famliarize myself with the similarities and the differences I'll encounter in TN. I'm a little fuzzy on a couple of things, and I hoped I could get some clarification. * It appears my OH license is good in TN for 6 months after I move in. * What limitations exist on where in a vehicle a handgun can be carried by a licensee ? * Is any carry in a vehicle considered "concealed", thus triggering the requirement of a license ? * Am I correct that TN DOES NOT require notification of carry to law enforcement during a stop for law enforcement purposes ? * Where does Open Carry stand presently in TN for both licensed and unlicensed persons ? (Is there a danger of arrest if the licensed concealed weapon is inadvertently exposed ?) * What is the law in general for open carry by licensed and unlicensed persons 1) in your home, or 2) outside your dwelling but still on your property ? I know there will be more, but these jump to mind. Appreciate any help.
