OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - One-day SI Course in Knoxville
knox replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Training Discussions
A little too close to Christmas for me to spend that kind of money. Have fun, everyone! Maybe next time. -
I live on the second story of a 3 level apartment building. Sitting on the sofa, it felt like a small wave came through. I heard the ceiling creek and wondered if a train derailed or something similar. After a few moments, I knew it was a tremor. Quite the odd feeling, to be sure.

Suggestions on home defense shotguns
knox replied to jwinter's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
My home defense shotgun is the H&R Pardner Pump Protector 12 gauge. It's a clone of the 870 and yes, it's made in China. That's its ONLY downfall, and not a big deal to me. It's strong, heavy, ugly, and built like a tank - everything a basic home defense shotgun should be. Dual slide rails, cheaper than an 870, and gets rave reviews online (check youtube). Most 870 mods will fit the Pardner Protector as well. -
I appreciate the replies.
-
Thanks. I will give them a look.

Are there any good Army / Navy stores in Knoxville that aren't filled with junk and Made In China crap? Thanks!
-
Voted at Farragut Middle School, so carry was a no go there.
-
Not at all. I appreciate it, sincerely. The last thing I want to do is ruffle feathers.
Wouldn't really be kosher to push them here like that.
Didn't mean to over step. My bad. I would make the trip if I thought it might be a good deal.

What's left, Eray? Can you share your prices?
-
Nice! Well done on your great deal.
No 10 MM's. Got about 12 Glocks, Models 19,17,22 and 23. Rugers, SR22, LCR22, Super Blackhawk Bisley Talo. Sp101, both .357 and 22lr, GP100 4 and 5 inch, Alaskan 44 Mag, P95's, S&W 617 and a couple of 629's, 638, Bodyguard 380, Shield 9MM, Sig 2022, Sig Ultra Compact 1911's, Single Six, Bearcat,, Remington 1911's, several others that I can't think of right now. Going to try and make enough on the Shield and a couple of the other high demand models like the SP101's to pay my show expenses and sell the others at about cost.
I could use another Gen 4 Glock 19. I love mine so much I would buy another if the price was right. Don't think I will make it to the show, though.

Interesting reads. Thanks for the links.

Nice to see the replies. Thanks!

By the way, I know there are varying opinions all over the net on this topic. I have been reading them for 2 days. I am just curious what the fine people here in TN do, or think about it.

Years ago, I found out that modern Car oil (NON energy conserving) was perfectly fine for my motorcycles. All that the manual called for was a specific weight. So I ran Castrol GTX in my CBR with a Wix car oil filter and never had a single problem. AND, I saved quite a bit of money on my oil changes. It has never been proven that motorcycle specific motor oil or filter is any better than automobile oil and filter. Now, let's talk about guns. I am seeing a lot of people having great success with Automobile oil on their guns, and Wheel Bearing Grease on their slides. Aside from the smell of gun oil - which I seem to have an affinity for, is anyone else saving money by using Auto Oil and Grease for their firearms? One quart of $7 - $12 Synthetic oil will last for years. A tub of $6 Wheel Bearing Grease will last a lifetime. So, is this a good way to avoid paying high price for Gun Specific lubes, which might be the same darn thing- marketed for guns with ridiculously inflated prices? Look forward to your thoughts. Also, what weight oil do you use if you follow this form of maintenance?

After shooting a Gen 4 19, I sold my SR9C. It was a nice, quality gun; I just did not shoot it as well as my Glock.

Thank you for the replies so far. Chip, I appreciate you chiming in! The more I study, the more I realize there is FAR more to this than simply defending yourself. I have heard some say (not on this forum) they would almost rather NOT defend themselves than deal with the financial and emotional burden after the fact. It is certainly something to be prepared for BEFORE it happens.

So, even if I am totally justified in defending my life and taking that of another, I know I will have a legal battle ahead of me. And it will get expensive (though my life is worth the cost, to be sure). A couple of questions... Who do you guys in Knoxville have as your go-to attorney? Does he/she charge for the initial meet / consult? If / when I am found innocent, will I still be out my attorney and legal fees? What about the civil suite to follow after the criminal hearing? Basically, what is your plan for the aftermath? What wisdom do you have? Thanks.

The funny thing is... If I found another G19 gen 4 just like the one I bought a few days ago - and the price was right - I would buy another one. I had NO idea I would love this gun as much as I do.
-
Visually, I think the xd is stunning. Haven't shot it yet.
-
I didn't believe the hype. Found out it isn't hype- for those that the gun fits. I happen to be one of them. It's like finding that pair of shoes that are just right...

Yes. I already want another Glock. Don't need one. But I want one. I white lettered mine too. I wasn't going to, because I didn't know if it was cheesy or not. But I like the way it looks. And it is more subtle than it appears in pictures.
