Well.... if that's the "rules", I guess I'll have to do it.

I'm fairly new to TN and the TGO forums so ... Did I miss it in my HCP class that I am required to go to Wally World, packing heat, to buy some ammo once I receive my permit? Am I required to do it in 24, 48, 72 hours? If I'm not able to, will my permit get revoked?

Not sure how true it is. Someone who knows, please confirm ... I was told that if you put ammo in oil, it will neutralize the primer.

I only have a corner of a bench and I've only been reloading for a couple months so I don't have anything impressive yet. But now I have something to strive for.

Advanced training is key. I had my HCP class in April and I'm taking an Advanced Handgun class this Saturday. People that take the HCP class and never fires a gun after that is, imho, totally careless and we'll probably read about them in the news. Just like Verbal said, "be a sponge". Knowledge is power. When I go to the range, I watch advanced shooters to see what they're doing and maybe even ask questions. I'm taking my advanced class at the same place where I had my HCP class. If I take another class after that, I will search out somewhere different. I believe that multiple "teachers" is better than the same person all the time.

I started reloading a couple of months ago. I started off by buying the Lee book first then the Lyman. I was told that it's better to have 2 or 3 books for reference on loads which both books have. It's also good to have a book from the specific powder manufacturer. What I did was read thru the Lee book to get an understanding of the basics then someone from the gun club offered to teach me how to reload. That was the best part, actually using a machine to reload my own bullets. You can read all you want, but having someone actually show me was what I needed to get going. I have now have loaded well over 1500 bullets. Before I even reloaded my first bullet at home, I started buying some of the basic equipment, tumbler, primer pocket cleaners, single stage press, decapping die. While I was reading, I was working on case preparation. It wasn't until after I had my lesson, that I bought my reloading dies. I'm now reloading .38spls, 9mm, and .45 acp.

I guess your conversation with your friend sums it up. Now we all know some of the ins and outs. The way I see it, pick your battles. I do want to make sure that I'm always safe as best I can. Part of that also means not to draw attention to myself. Unfortunately, there are people that do not like guns because of the negative press so I'm not going to add to their paranoia. When I go to the range, I look around to see if any neighbors are around as I'm loading and unloading my car. I just don't want to be put in an awkward position. I love shooting but others may not. To me, it's like politics and religion, you believe in what you want, just don't push your beliefs on me. I'm fine with a friendly discussion, but when people start to preach to me, that's what I get pi$$ed. Glad it worked out for you.

I realize that, that's why I said "hope". I was fingerprinted on April 23rd, so I'm right around 90 days. I'm waiting patiently. I'm almost 40 years old and have never had a carry permit before, I'm in no hurry. I just hope that the state lives up to its end of the bargin with 90 days. I live up to my end of the bargin by paying my taxes on time.

Hope that means I only have about 10 days to go.

I agree, save them. For comparison, I bought 4 boxes of .40 for $20 a box. I'm sure you can get more.

I have a P220, a P229 in .40 (with a .357 sig barrel as well). and a P226 in 9mm. Never a problem with any of them. I recently changed my 229 grips to the Hogue wrap around. Made quite a difference in the feel. Congrats on your new gun.

I bought the Lyman #55 powder measure the other day at Reloaders Bench. It's $79.99 plus tax. So far it seems worth the money. It's very well made. The only thing that is plastic is the hopper and hopper lid. I didn't really want to spend that much but it looks like it will last longer than me. I read a lot of the reviews on Midway about various powder measures. I did not like reading about the Lee measures and all the tinkering that people have to do to get them to work/not leak. The only tinkering that I had to do with the Lyman is to adjust the measure to get the right powder charge. I just finished loading 150 - 9mm. Out of that 150, I weighed about 15-20 to check for accuracy. I think there were 3 or 4 that weighed +.1, the rest were dead on.

FYI I decided to contact RCBS and they sent me their catalog. It has a listing of charges for 50 different powders for their 28 different drums for their little dandy powder measure.

I was wondering if "Monarch" was made by someone else. I bought some 9mm and it seemed to work well and it was $6.79 a box (50) when I bought it 3 or 4 months ago.

I don't care for the green either. Nothing a can of spray can't remedy. I bought a similar cabinet but brown at Sports Authority in New Jersey when I lived there. Kind of mad that I didn't bring it with me when I moved.

I bought 1000 9mm of Wolf from ammoman.com and have shot about 400 of it thru my Glock 19 and Sig 226. Not a problem with either gun and have not noticed it being any dirtier than any other ammo that I've used.
